UH playing much better then yesterday. Set 1 18-17 UH. Classic the commentator mentioned a great # for crowd. about 600. One thing is I can’t handle this commentator, I don’t know if it’s the pitch of his voice or just the way he talks, almost thinking about just turning the sound off and just watching. Not to mention that he’s butchering everyone’s name, and not just the local boys. tied 20-20 lets go bows!

    Awful pronunciation by the commentator…

jmy – didn’t think one could pronounce Franciskovic or Zarkovic that way

Great redemption for UH tonite. Played WAY better then last nights match. I figured out why I didn’t care for that commentator, to me he was kinda boring, maybe Hawaii is lucky with our awesome commentators? Feel like he would be teaching some course in school that I would not prefer taking but was required to. Lottah momentum swinging our way in that last set. That crazy kill by the middle on the over=pass whacking that Waves player and that south-paw killer hit INSIDE the 10 in that last set. Hopefully we won’t drop that much in the polls b/c of the loss, better to loose now and work out the kinks then later on down the road!

  18. t103 January 16, 2016 7:03 pm

@Jmy I couldn’t concentrate b/c I kept trying to figure out who he was talking about the entire match.. Francis—-long-pause—-KOvic. and zarKOvic. At least he was consistent on where he used inflection in his tone to pronounce both names. Did you catch him trying to pronounce Mamane’s name last nights match? I seriously had to look it up online cuz I didn’t know who he was talking about, and he did apologize to the family for butchering that name. BUT no one told him he was butchering Siki & Jennings names two nights in a row… Poor guy lol

  19. jm2375 January 16, 2016 7:07 pm

Does UH still issue a media guide with the pronunciations?

  20. Cindy Luis January 16, 2016 10:04 pm

Sam Lagana filled in at the last minute for the normal Pepperdine guy. Sam a longtime AVP announcer, is the associate Vice Chancellor at Pepperdine. Agree it was hard to listen to his pronunciations and kind of surprised no one mentioned it to him.
    19. Don’t see a UH media guide online. It would have been up to the broadcaster to ask UH coaches how to pronounce the names.

Great way to bounce back, and Siki was a monster, great to see the freshmen step it up and have another awesome match after his first bad match.

  23. noblesol January 17, 2016 10:44 am

McKellar stepped it up as well. Much better team outing. Improved blocking, better serve receive and passing, more digs, and more presence in the middle. Pepperdine fell apart near the end, got down early in the last set and they lost composure. There seemed to be some chatter going on between the teams and the refs. Hawaii got a yellow card at one point. Noticeable crowd support from the Bow’s fans. They had something to cheer for last night.

  24. T103 January 17, 2016 12:21 pm

I know the team already knows this but just saying it, I hope we can really establish our middles as an attack, especially with that south paw from UK. Our OH are good, if we can establish our middles as a valid weapon, UH will have a good balanced offense!

Noblesol, thanks for the link. Able to watch the whole game on my big tv screen thru chrome cast. I agree that they are much more improved in all aspects of the game. Looking forward to their next 6 home games. GO BOWS!!!

  26. Cindy Luis January 18, 2016 8:47 am

    24. they are well aware that their middle attack is lacking. They are using two converted outsides, including a left-hander. Will take time for the connection to happen.
