    Thanks for the updates mainlandgal.

  5. Ki March 30, 2014 1:07 pm

I heard Cook/Tiegs won the Championship due to medical forfeit. Hope nothing serious happened to Spieler or Taylor.

  6. FormerlyWarriorfan March 30, 2014 1:28 pm

Dang not what i wanted to hear!

  7. mainlandgal March 30, 2014 1:35 pm

    Final Match Scores:

    Cook/Tiegs 21-13 7-4 (Medical Forfeit Speiler/Taylor)

  8. formerlywarriorfan March 30, 2014 1:39 pm

Mainlandgal any idea who is injured? and hopefully nothing serious.

  9. Brandon March 30, 2014 1:41 pm

I hope it’s nothing to serious! To either spieler or Taylor. Can’t lose spieler for sand and can’t lose Nikki for indoor

  10. mainlandgal March 30, 2014 1:56 pm

Speiler was having a hard time catching her breath … thankfully she’s doing fine now.

Anyone know why SW is switching up the 4 and 5 pairs so much? Seems that they had new partners every match, and then new partners today going into the pairs tourney. I would think it would be tough to go out on the sand court everyday with a new partner. In this game, it’s so important to create chemistry and trust with your partner. Always having to switch would be a hindrance in play. Doesn’t seem fair to the players but it does show how deep the UH team is when all 5 teams go into the Quarters, Semi’s and ultimately the FINAL Match!! Just pondering what SW thoughts may be doing this so far into their already short season … ?

  11. formerlywarriorfan March 30, 2014 1:59 pm

Thanks for the good news, glad Katie is okay. Maybe Scott just wanted to give them all some playing experience? I am surprised as well that Rooks and Higgins didn’t get any action today? or maybe they did in the tournament for the 6th pairs?

  12. Brandon March 30, 2014 2:00 pm

    10. Thanks for the clear! Thankfully spieler is doing ok! She has a great career coming for her on the beach with UH and maybe even professionally. UH is truly showing they’re one of the best teams in the nation.

  13. LC March 30, 2014 2:21 pm

Scott is switching up the 4&5 because he is experimenting and wants to increase the depth to the 4&5 spots by putting together the best pair who are consistent. I think he is getting closer to that goal and will have the best combos ready by the time the Championships roll around.

The coverage again was terrible. After all the Stanford teams were eliminated the Stanford SID took a powder. Whoever is behind the @UHSandvb twitter account showed up for a few post this morning then also disappeared, the UCLA SID was a no show all day.

  14. LC March 30, 2014 2:24 pm

I believe Scott is experimenting with the 4&5 slots trying to come up with the best combo and I think he is getting closer to his goal.

  15. formerlywarriorfan March 30, 2014 2:33 pm

Tucker had some great credentials in high school so I like that she’s getting a chance. UH’s weakness against USC was definitely the 4-5 spots.

  16. Setaone March 30, 2014 2:50 pm

Yes. Wong needs to determine which is the best pairs for #4 and #5. Just because the pairs at those spots have been winning doesn’t mean they are the best at those spots.

Plus. He needs to develop the other players as well.

  17. Brandon March 30, 2014 2:57 pm

Totally detracting from the post, but I was watching replays of some of the matches and the way Nikki hits just intrigues me. She goes up and when she’s about to hit it, it doesn’t look like the ball will have force but it does. Most volleyball players take a full arm swing and it looks powerful, but Nikki is just different. Has anyone else noticed this?

  18. mainlandgal March 30, 2014 3:21 pm

Moving forward, the last two tournaments on the mainland, USAV Beach Collegiate Challenge at Hermosa and Big West Challenge at Huntington will be very important for the Sand Bows. These two tournaments will be the time to shine as I’m sure we are all hopeful that UH will be represented at the AVCA National Championship in Alabama in May!! SW and his staff are working hard to put together the BEST 5 pairs possible!! A huge shout out to all the Wahine Sand Bows for a great showing this week and special KUDOS to those 4 and 5 players (Chow, Higgins, Mendoza, Riggs, Rooks, Shinn, Tucker and Urban) for having new partners all week and still pulling off the WINS!!! You ladies ROCK!!!
Here’s to safe travels for the Sand Bows as they head back to the Island and for much rest as they are back at Queens Beach next weekend … GO SAND BOWS!!!

  19. Cindy Luis March 30, 2014 3:25 pm

    1. not really. was just using the links.

  20. Cindy Luis March 30, 2014 3:25 pm

See new thread with UH release

  21. Cindy Luis March 30, 2014 3:27 pm

    13. you do realize that the only school with an SID at the event was Stanford? The other SIDs rely on the host to send results.

  22. Cindy Luis March 30, 2014 3:29 pm

    16. he is developing the other players. they all practice. but you can only play 10. top 3 pairs have been set.

  23. formerlywarriorfan March 30, 2014 3:31 pm

    18.totally agree.
UH should dispatch HPU and Chaminade easily next week.
But UH MUST beat Long Beach State again in the big west challenge and for insurance beat Pepp or USC at the USAV challenge. That would certainly guarantee them a bid to the AVCA championship.

  24. Cindy Luis March 30, 2014 3:34 pm

    24. not necessarily about the guarantee They already have a win over Long Beach. BUt they’ve lost to Pepperdine and SC, two schools who could receive the bids.

  25. LC March 30, 2014 3:52 pm

Come on everyone knows she has a twitter account, not hard to find but it’s locked up. 🙂

The Stanford SID flew the coop shortly after the last Stanford team was eliminated. The UCLA SID was a no show all day.Santa Clara, well what can I say does the Athletic Dept. even know that they have a sand team ?

  26. Cindy Luis March 30, 2014 4:01 pm

25 I have 2 twitter accounts but don’t use them.
I’m sure they know they have a sand team otherwise they wouldn’t have releases, update schedules, etc.
However, most SIDs cover several sports.
also know that the SIDs rely on the coaches to send in results, which is why you usually get UH sailing a couple of days after the fact.
Again, not all schools had SIDs there. UH didn’t
It’s still a minor, emerging sport.
