Am I seeing things or did the MPSF send extra line judges?
4 Four local line judges.
Verna K. the up ref.
Warriors back to the usual lineup with van Tilburg at OPP.
Warriors wearing their retro Rainbow uniforms.
Warriors up 15-12 at the TTO, last point on an ace by Fey.
Worsley in to serve. wearing 22 tonight
Mol with the kill. it’s 17-14 TO Pepperdine
7. Campfire defense. Marshamallow time…
Verna letting things go, something she tends to do. waves close to 17-16. TO UH
11. Understatement…too much is not getting called…
Fey with the kill. UH up 20-17. TO Waves
Interesting serving sub. Parapunov in for Mol.
12. at least it’s both ways. some of Franciskovic’s side sets are questionable.
Mol and van Tilburg stuff Dyer. UH wins 25-23.
15. Not as bad as the pizza being served by the Pepp. setter. Scates would be all over this for too much deep dishing.
17. i don’t think his sets are too bad, Ma’a’s are worse.
Mol with the ace, it’s 6-2.
Verna doesn’t even know the pursuit rule.
It’s 10-3. TO Waves. nice solo by Franciskovic.
18. Ma’a’s are terrible…he whines about getting called too.
Big cheer when they showed Shoji on the JumboTron.
21. don’t care for Tuaniga’s either.
Warriors in a zone. it’s 14-4
Another block UH’s 6th and it’s 15-5 at the TTO.
23. Someone should be on those when BYU plays on a neutral court. Too many homer calls in Provo.
Verna missed it again…wonder what she’s watching
I think the Malibu Roofing Company went bankrupt this year. Replaced by the Warrior Roofing Company.
Serving has been very good tonite, with only 5 service errors between the two teams. Maybe serving for accuracy rather than aces (4 total aces). UH’s season low on service errors is 6 in a 3-set win over Erskine to start the season. On pace to match that tonite with 4 so far.
Just when things were going so well. Pepperdine closes to 23-18. TO UH. It was 19–8
Fey ends it 25-20
UH’s blocking is tied for third best for the season at 4.25 bps (also during 2nd UCLA match). Best blocking night was 4.67 bps against USC (2nd match).
Van Tilburg with a ‘that will leave a mark’ kill. it’s 15-11
UH with 12th block. it’s 18-12. TO PEpperdine
32. More like ‘check your shoulder for dislocation’. nailed the libero in the shoulder.
Ace by van Tilburg and it’s 19-12. TO Waves
Tickets issued 6691. turnstile 6301
Even though Jennings had a few errors he needs to keep being offensive his offense is the x factor that will get UH the national championship along with Rado coming in as the secret weapon off the bench.
UH wins 25-15
It’s too bad the final 6 isnt here this team is basically unbeatable at home and scary thing the team could be even better next year if Rado develops the way Stijn did from freshmen to sophomore.
Marv is 0-9 in sets this year vs. Hawaii../
UH sets season record for blocks with 17.5 for the match and 5.83 bps. BTW, UH has 17 blocks against UCLA…in 4 sets. Truly remarkable blocking tonite.
Gasman was literally a wall,I am so excited for his potential.
Pepperdine’s poor passing led to high ball sets to the outside. This allowed UH to put up a triple block. (Reminds of Wahine passing.)
UH can beat BYU with a faster offense (low ball sets to the outside).
Uh can beat byu away from Provo, think the last loss against BYU and how UH crumbled down the stretch in sets left a bad taste.
44. I think back to the year Hawaii got a bad call against BYU when they had them in Set 5 in Provo. This time, no altitude, no homer refs, and no rude student section.
Ok so basically what UH needs to do to be a shoe in for the final 6, is beat BYU, hope Ohio State wins the MIVA and Long Beach advances to the MPSF final.
K great win by the boys! I’m a tad bit confused. So this is MPSF conference tournament, if we somehow don’t win this, are we still gonna get to go to the NCAA tournament? MPSF has the top half of the conference ranked in the top 15 of the country, so couldn’t see UH NOT going to the NCAA tournament even we don’t win MPSF. Can someone enlighten me how this works?
47. this is how it will work
Winner of MPSF, MIVA, EIVA and Conference Carolinas get automatic bids
2 at-large.
Unless Ohio State doesn’t win the MIVA, the two at-large berths will go to MPSF teams, just as happened in 2015 when Hawaii got the at-large despite losing in the MPSF semifinals.
IMHO, the only way UH doesn’t get the at-large (barring Ohio State being upset) is if UC Irvine wins the MPSF tournament and the automatic berth. If the Anteaters win, then Long Beach State and BYU would get the at-large berths.
at the moment the RPI has BYU 1, Ohio State 2, Long Beach State 3, Hawaii 4, UC Irvine 5.
BTW, UH-BYU match at 2 p.m. HST, 5 p.m. PST.
Ahh thanks Cindy, for clearing that up for me. Someone had told me that the guys brackets aren’t as big as the girls, so I was really confused. Do we know if OC 16 will be heading up to Cali to televise thursdays game? If not, any networks will be carrying it so we can watch here?
Long Beach should have a free livestream, but their announcer is terrible. Hope OCsports televises it.
Stijn was incredible, 10 digs, 5 blocks, unstoppable offensively and He took nice swings from the left, he’s a natural from there.
50. don’t know about TV. I will be there as will 1420-AM
.
52. first career double-double for SVT. he passed really well too.
Per Chris McLachlin, SVT played OH in the Netherlands. Wade put him at Opposite. This means Parapunov could play Opp if SVT goes back to his original OH. It may be that the high ball sets were the problem against LBSU; not the combo of SVT & RP.
Tuaniga has got to be the most over rated setter in the country. Dude is nothing special. The fact he had DeFalco at the other end making him look good is all he has. He’s up there by reputation only from his high school days at hunnington beach, which guess who was his high school star hitter? Yup…DeFalco.
I wouldn’t call Tuaniga over rated, but he does IMO hold on too the ball too long.
Personally I think Jennings has been the best setter in conference this year so I hope he makes first team all american over Tuaniga. Jennings can do things no other setters in the country can do at the net, that’s what he needs to use to his advantage MORE.
If UH faces OSU in the final four, I think that Jennings can give them fits with his offense.
Was mentioned on post game show that OCSports will not show MPSF tourney. It will be shown here:
http://www.flovolleyball.tv/event/255032-2017-men-s-mpsf-championships
Long Beach better have a free livestream available also.
I wonder if the Big west will have a tournament next season? or not like the women.
Hopefully they will get some Warriors matches on ESPN3 and Primetime channel like the wahine and mens basketball get for the Big West matches.
That Flovolleyball sight is not free. You need to registrar and pay a fee.
big west mens vb playoffs will be at pre-determined sites per wade on bobby curran’s show. 2019 is supposed to be held in hawaii. 2018 i think was long beach
Interesting that the men will have a tournament while the women do not.
UH has got to break it’s losing streak to BYU and Long Beach in the next two weeks hopefully.
I like our chances against BYU…Cougars are not the same team outside of Smith Fieldhouse…
62. Me too,the block has to show up big though, as it was a non factor in Provo. Hopefully Kupono will play like last night again and Rosey needs to step it up.
Does the team fly out to Long Beach tonight or Monday?
64. they fly out Tuesday
After watching the replays of the Pepperdine match it is obvious the blocking has come around but I was also impress with serve/receive passing and Jennings ability to always “better” the ball. I am also glad that Gasman did not play last year because we will get to watch him 3 more years. Tui is still our secret weapon. This is the best blend of locals, main landers, and foreign talent I have see in a long time. Mahalo to a great coaching staff. We could win it all, but first beat BYU and take that smug look off of their faces!
have mentioned a number of times that Big West MVB will have a tourney staring next year, The MPSF will continue as well. Both leagues will have automatic berths into the NCAA for their respective winning.
LBS hosts ext year, Hawaii 2019. Wade is advocating for neutral site, Las Vegas.
Team leaves Tuesday afternoon. I leave redeye Tuesday night.
