Hmmmm, PSU has tied it at 18. Ramos back in. and just like that, nice pass sets up West with kill in the middle.

  15. Close Up On Cindy January 10, 2014 8:40 pm

You may want to go home tonight to watch the replay (IF they’re still doing so).

They had a close up of you tonight along with your son in headsets.

They had nothing but nice things to say about you/son.
They should let Cindy know when the camera is going to plaster one’s images all over the screen.

  28. surfboy January 10, 2014 9:59 pm

Did Kupono Fey play tonight? Wonder if and when he will impact this team.

  29. Geno Tamayo January 10, 2014 10:23 pm

    Surfboy Yes he did

  30. Warriorfan January 10, 2014 11:51 pm

I am really impressed by the play of Jace Olsen and Kolby Kanetake. two players I wasn’t high on at all and thus far are stepping it up big time.

I really feel bad for Franciskovic every time he was put in the team lost points but it wasn’t because of his setting. He has a ton of potential and gets up as high as Brook and Siki on the block. I really like that the coaches are putting him in early to get him ready. Ramos to me still makes too many location mistakes and will be a blocking liability against Page/Sander and other big time outsides in conference although he definitely has the most experience and better back row play.

I think Fey might just take away Timmer’s job as serving sub mostly because he is getting digs while keeping his serve in and Timmer isn’t.

  31. Ron January 11, 2014 7:12 am

Agree with WF. Those two have really stepped up. I have been disappointed in Averills play especially his serve. Wade made a good move putting in Mol. Sedore was having an off night. I would also like to see more of Fey but who do you sit? UCLA will be a good test tonight.

  32. Tiki808 January 11, 2014 10:02 am

Hawaii was always a great team. Just play hard every time and they got the same results. They have a big team this year. If you can see, most of the players are all over the world. I am sure they have a good eatery wagon for the boys after the game. That is what they work for to be on the team. Championship match in the Outrigger classic at Stan Sheriff Center tonight. A good tournament, but never stayed at that hotel. A lot of UH pictures there to show off UH sports.

  33. Tiki808 January 11, 2014 10:19 am

Joby Ramos #2 one of UH’s best setters of all time, next to _________. Really? Keep it up.

  34. Cindy Luis January 11, 2014 5:10 pm

28 yes Fey played. the boxes are online. you also can see play-by-play if you go to hawaiiathletics.com go the link for MVB schedule and click on the box.
Fey ended up serving at critical times, the ends of two sets.
Don’t know where he fits in. It’s so early. They were going to redshirt him but have decided not to.
As for Fey (4 sets) vs. Timmer (6 sets), Fey has 2 digs, Timmer 1 dig on the season. Timmer has 1 SE in 6 serves, Fey 0 SE in 5 serves.

  35. Cindy Luis January 11, 2014 5:35 pm

    31. Ron, don’t think Averill played poorly. Last night vs. Penn State 5-3-10, vs. Ohio State he was 8-2-10. Ramos didn’t set him much until the end, was 1-1-2 through Set 2, 2-2-4 through Set 3. He was 3-1-6 in Set 4. Pretty big block up against him most of the night from PSU.

  36. Ron January 11, 2014 6:06 pm

Cindy, I didnt think he played poorly, I guess I expected more. I feel more comfortable when West is in .

  37. Cindy Luis January 11, 2014 6:18 pm

    36. Think he’s still trying to figure out his role on the court since he’s switched positions so many times and also, after losing 20 pounds, is adjusting to his body and higher vertical.
He’s hitting .400 but agree that Ramos seems to have a better connection.
As for his serve … he’s served 19 times, fewest of the starters in 2 matches, 0 aces, 1 SE.
