It’ll only be interesting if Irvine wins…

It’ll be better if Irvine wins…BYU was handed the MPSF title for free…

Which one Cindy, BYU-UCI, or Kaiser-Moanalua. I pick the Kaiser-Moanalua, one.

OT: Every now and then some fans thought that Jade’s sister Sirena might play here but she committed to Liberty University. She did attend one of Shoji’s camps which might have lead them to think that.

    2. Don’t feel that BYU was handed the title, they were No. 1 for most of the year.
Cougars earned the top seed by winning the MPSF. Could have lost to Hawaii or UCLA, won in 5 both nights.
In late march, BYU swept The Beach at the Pyramid.
and those scores 25-22, 25-13, 25-15 were a lot uglier than when BYU swept in the Provo in the MPSF final 28-26, 25-22, 25-22
Both UCI’s matches in the MSPF tourney went 5 as well, The Anteaters outlasted UCSB, fell to Long Beach State

As for BYU-UCI, I still think it will be an interesting match on a neutral court, although UCI should have more fans. Cougars won both meetings during the MPSF season.
3-1 in Provo, 3-2 in Irvine after UCI had a 2-0 lead.
Of BYU’s 3 losses this season, first 2 were at home to Lewis and to Long Beach State. The other was at UCLA 0-3.
Of UCI’s 6 losses, 4 were on the road.

Any info on new libero recruit? Im pretty excited about stuff I read about her but no ones really talking about her here.

  7. Cindy Luis May 3, 2013 6:04 pm

WF are you referring to Kahakai? Farrington junior. Class of 2014.
wondering if she is more a beach recruit since she was on the USA Junior Beach tour.
but would be a good get for indoor, who could be a walk-on for beach.

  8. Warriorfan May 3, 2013 6:12 pm

I had no idea she played beach win win for UH. Looks like she will be competing with Spieler and Kawamura for Longo’s spot in 2014.

Wonder if Lizzie Blake has plans to come back ala Shawna-Lei Kuehu.

  10. Cindy Luis May 3, 2013 8:39 pm

Have heard nothing about Blake returning.
    5. from USA Beach Junior Tour National Championship last summer in Chicago
The Girls 18U age division crowned Loxley Keala and Carly Kan winners. The duo defeated Faith Maafala and Savannah Kahakai (Kapolei) in the championship match. Chelsey Keoho and Haley Paakuala shared third-place accolades with Clare Anderson and Britt Markwith (Honolulu).
In Girls’ 16U age division, third place went to Honolulu’s Malia Luis-Mateo and Ashelyn Jones and Waipahu’s Kelly Matthews and Haley Leong. First-place bragging rights went to Marina Adolpho and McKenzie Feldman (Kaneohe), who defeated Hoakalei Dawson and British Dawnson (Kailua) in the championship match.

Something of note: sand/beach volleyball will be discussed at the HIADA conference later this month (that’s the athletic directors association) they need 3 associations to sponsor it for a state sport and apparently have 2 so far (OIA and ILH).

With the decision of turning the Natatorium into a public beach (sad and wrong) talk is of turning the defunct Farrington pool into a sand court. It has been closed for decades and nothing in the future says it will be reopened as a pool. It wouldn’t take much to make it a sand VB venue, certainly not the 6-plus $M they are talking about with the Natatoriium.

Cindy, I just wanted to leave a note thanking you and all your followers for keeping me informed of all the goings on at UH Wahine Volleyball. As I live on the mainland now I get to see the team only occasionally and really appreciate the news I get from your columns and blogs. Keep up the good work. I have been following the Rainbow Wahine Volleyball team since Coach Shoji first started and have always respected the insite that you and Ann Miller have provided me with. Thank again. GO BOWS!!!

  13. WaWa May 4, 2013 11:13 am

Cindy, has there ever been a Wahine recruit from Farrington?

  14. vballfreak808 May 4, 2013 12:04 pm

LBSU wins the 2013 AVCA Collegiate Sand Volleyball Championship

They defeated Pepperdine 3-2 but Pepperdine’s #1 team forfeited all matches due to injury

  15. mainlandgal May 4, 2013 2:51 pm

Congrats to LBSU!! Job well done ladies!!!

So unfortunate for Pepperdine to have a couple large hurdles to overcome leading up to and during the Championship.
