Mitchem out for several weeks with fractured finger
Sad news for her. same injury as last year, different hand.
She came back in really great shape, too.
Said surgery next week, a pin for a couple of weeks. not sure of the timeline after that.

I was afraid of that, really feel bad for Mitchem. Hang in there Annie wishing you a speedy recovery. Shoji must be weak as he had her pegged as a starter.
Burns need to get to 100% real fast so she can start practice.
Next man up. Looks like Casey currently. She needs to step up and deliver.
I remember a tweet Annie made prior to the 2015 season. It was a joke about injuring her ankle. Not saying anything, but the Japanese have a word for that “bachi”. BUT, she is young and will recover.
And who am I to judge, we all do dumb stuff as kids.
Just caught this on PV… Trinity Castaneda, a 6-1 Class of 2018 OH from Shadow Hills HS (CA) and 951 Elite VBC, has committed to the University of Hawaii.
Hopefully she will be back in time for the start of the conference season.
Most disheartening for Mitchem, hopefully recovery will be quick. It’s time for Castillo and Burns to step up. Road to the Final Four just got harder but not impossible.
Darn:( too injury prone, hard to live up to potential when you are injury prone.
If all goes well and she’s just out for a few weeks, she should be ready way before conference season.
Too bad UH didn’t recruit another middle not sure castillo or burns will be ready to contribute like we need to beat Wisconsin:( guess it was hard to do with three setters on scholarship.
Great games @ the Ann Kang. Is Kanani D. on the coaching staff of Punahou. I just noticed this morning.
Bum luck for Annie and really bad news for the Wahine given how front-loaded their schedule is. They need early season wins against ranked opponents to have any shot at a top 16 RPI and hosting in the NCAA tournament. Without Mitchem in the middle those wins will be a lot harder to get.
oh have a little faith in this team people. yes i feel bad for Annie, and their schedule is tough this season BUT the Wahine are still loaded. like seriously, take Maglio for example…no one expected her to explode the way she did last season, don’t underestimate the next girl who will potentially have to fill in for Annie if she is not ready by Game Day.
by the way, is Redshirting Mitchem not an option? just wondering, not sure if she would want to or not.
Tough break for Mitchem. Silver lining in this dark cloud is that Annie will have a great supporter there in Tom. Hang in there Annie!
Maglio started slowly last year though her first game against Idaho was bad, and she played as a true freshmen the year before too, Burns has not played at all yet and Castillo hasn’t played middle in a real game. Carlini will have the middles moving we need one of them to be good right off the bat.
4. Saw that too. 6’1″, 9’11” block, 10’3″ approach. Need more Nikkis, lol.
Get well soon, Annie! We need you! GO BOWS!
13. Annie redshirted already at Irvine Valley, per her bio.
Feel really bad for Annie and Coach Pesto but I have confidence if Castillo has to fill in for her and Burns…Casey is a year better and with Sand, she should be stronger. I know Maglio will be a Stud this year with Nikki…With a healthy Nikki, Greenly, Maglio, Castillo, Granato and Sibley we have enough firepower even if Mitchem and Burns are not up to par. If we really have to we still have Kendra as an option. We have depth and quality at all positions…we will be okay…but getting back Mitchem and Burns sooner than later will make us more lethal
take care annie … heal up and get well soon …
Hi Cindy,
Please delete my comment above (#3). Thanks
15. Just for the records, Casey did play for a brief time as a middle closing a set in a conference match. I recall she even had a kill.
Mitchem is not injury prone. this is only the second injury of her career and it happens to be another freak accident with a pinkie.
She’s already used her redshirt year. only thing that could be done would be to apply for a medical hardship but that can’t be done until after the season is done and there’s no guarantee it would be granted.
Did ask Hall about that possibility He said that was a discussion that Shoji and Mitchem would be having, not him and Mitchem … IF such a discussion were to be had.
Everyone optimistic about her being back in time for BWC. She’s already begun her bone-healing diet, which includes antioxidants and no inflammatories.
4. had that about Castaneda on June 8
confirmation of Trinity Castaneda for 2018. She joins Liliana Light as 2018 oral commits. Both are listed at 6-1 and OH/MB.
Castaneda is out of Indio, Calif. plays at 951elite.
club tweeted this (although her last name is misspelled)
15. Castillo played middle in one match briefly last year.
