Ma'a helps U.S. to NORCECA U19 gold medal
Micah Ma’a (Punahou) playing at opposite had five kills and three aces as the U.S. Boys’ Youth National team won the NORCECA U19 Boys’ Continental Championship when defeating Cuba 25-23, 25-21, 25-20 Saturday in Tulsa, Okla.
Ma’a also was in on two blocks.
The U.S. qualified for the FIVB U19 World Championship when sweeping Mexico Friday at the Cox Business Center.

It would be great to then have Pono make the 12-member cut for the NORCECA Championships at the end of this month.

not sure which event you mean. This was the NORCECA Championship.
This was the qualifier for the 2015 FIVB World Championship.
Oh, I see the confusion I caused by writing Pono and not Kupono (Fey) in this Ma’a thread! I meant to say congratulations to Micah in the U19 championship and that I hope Kupono makes it to the U21 championship.
Congratulations to the USA U19 team for capturing the championship. Micah actually was the setter in the Mexico and Cuba games due to an injury to their starting setter, Tuiniga. Micah is so versatile that he started as opposite at the beginning of the tournament and then switched to setter in the championship matches. Hawaii should be proud of our native son who was voted the outstanding setter in this tournament.
Gotcha. Haven’t seen the roster announced for that.
The NORCECA Continental Championships run July 28-Aug. 3. The U.S. is the defending champions having won it in 2012. The top three teams will qualify for the 2015 FIVB Men’s Junior World Championships.
BTW, you know that Fey and Micah Christenson are first cousins? Their moms are sisters, the daughters of the late coach Harry ‘Clown’ Kahuanui.
