Looking at Thursday’s semifinals

Stanford-Penn State, Texas-BYU

two compelling match ups. Think both will be very competitive.
Thoughts on who you think will make it to Saturday?

All-America teams announced later this week. Magill will be somewhere on the list.

stanford-penn st i think is a toss up. and probably that semifinal should really be the championship final. the difference is that washington didn’t play for penn st when the 2 teams clashed early in the season (a 5-setter). whoever wins this, wins the title, imo. i think stanford in another 5-set battle.

byu-texas. i think byu matches up very well against texas. byu has the block that can neutralize eckerman and bell on the left and right. texas has been winning, in part, because they’re just so physical at the net. but byu is actually bigger at the net, and can be just as physical. byu serving can bother an average at best passing of texas, and plant their blockers on eckerman and bell. at the same time though, unc was putting 3 blockers on eckerman, and it still didn’t stop her. i think byu pull this out. an unseeded team in the final would be pretty impressive.

… but what do i know … looking forward to watching the matches.

From the very start of the Sweet 16, I predicted Stanford vs. BYU in the Final
with Stanford coming out as “National Champions”…..(IMO)

BYU has a young lady who is HUGE…..Washington could not block her
Everything she hit was over the block…..National team should sign her up
Now….Reminds me of the Russian that used to win the shot put every
    Year at the Olympics…..

Stanford and BYU is my pick.

Maybe everyone will be surprised. Who knows? There are four possibilities. Could be even Penn State vs. Texas. Still, I’d love to see Stanford vs BYU in the national final with two giant girls facing each other, Merete Lutz vs. Jennifer Hamson. That would be the clash of the Titans in height.

I’m going with Penn St and BYU.

Hoping BYU gets in. No preference over Penn State or Stanford. I’m thinking Penn State has the upper hand because of the number of times they’ve been to the Final Four. None of the current Stanford team have been to the Finals. They (BYU)
looked awesome in Seattle and a Alohi looks like she’s coming into her own during the last two matches. i’m pulling for Cinderella.

    Happy Holidays Cindy!

I really hope Penn State gets eliminated. It gets old hearing the ESPN commentator continuously talk bout the whole championship repeat thing and having to watch clips of their previous year wins over and over again.

If you haven’t read the NCAA.com summary of the FinalFour squads, do so by clicking on the following link (you might pick up a few facts you didn’t already know):

(I’ll go with Seed 1 vs Seed 2 for the Final.)

    16. Dual role as done by Scott. Sand coaching experience eliminates a few names that came up.

  23. hollycow December 17, 2014 8:17 am

As obviously mentioned, I count 3 players out of 42 from non big5. These AA teams are getting to be a good laugh.
