  1. EQ October 26, 2013 4:06 pm

OK Bows, Play this match like you normally do and win!

  2. EQ October 26, 2013 4:06 pm

    video stream kind’a grainy…..

  3. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 4:09 pm

Normal lineup for UH Vorster, Taylor, Manu-Olevao, Adolpho, Hartong, Uiato, Longo

  4. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 4:12 pm

    Davis up 10-5. TO UH

  5. vbfan October 26, 2013 4:13 pm

    Looking really bad so far

  6. Maverick October 26, 2013 4:13 pm

UH picking up where it left off last night.

  7. Ashley October 26, 2013 4:14 pm

    disappointing

  8. Maverick October 26, 2013 4:14 pm

Looked like Emily shanked her second serve receive of the set.

  9. LC October 26, 2013 4:15 pm

    Pathetic.

  10. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 4:15 pm

    Yikes, it’s 13-5.

  11. EQ October 26, 2013 4:16 pm

Not starting well this 1st set. Cindy, do you know if they have some kind of flu or sickness going around with the team? They’re playing sluggish again.

  12. Ashley October 26, 2013 4:16 pm

Dave i am disappointed that you once again started Tai over Ashley

  13. LC October 26, 2013 4:17 pm

No there is no flu there is nothing going and there is no need to start looking for excuses.

  14. LanaiBoy October 26, 2013 4:18 pm

Wonder if all the negative talk about Hawaii’s performance in VT and all the blogs have affected Hawaii’s morale. That assumes the team members read them.

  15. LC October 26, 2013 4:19 pm

    Everyone has there number.

  16. Maverick October 26, 2013 4:19 pm

Davis hitting .429, UH hitting -.042

  17. EQ October 26, 2013 4:19 pm

    13. just wondering. Not looking for excuses.

  18. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 4:19 pm

    11. no idea if there is something going on other than they are certainly in a funk.
    18-8 TO UH

  19. Maverick October 26, 2013 4:20 pm

    14. Doubt they read the blogs. In any case, losing to two conference opponents in the same month is enough to damage morale and confidence.

  20. haleiwacrossfitter October 26, 2013 4:22 pm

This is just painful…and sad to watch. This is not the same team. So frustrating to watch this happen

  21. Maverick October 26, 2013 4:22 pm

Interesting that Emily only has 3 out of 25 attempts. Can’t say UH isn’t going to her too much tonight.

  22. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 4:23 pm

    19. agree they aren’t reading the blogs. they know how badly they are playing.

  23. AS October 26, 2013 4:23 pm

I hope this is the beginning of their real game.

  24. Maverick October 26, 2013 4:24 pm

Clearly, the big problem are the middles…both Vorster and Adolpho are hitting negative. And 5 total attempts between them. Lack of distribution is hurting UH.

  25. Warriorfan October 26, 2013 4:24 pm

Seriously what did shoji expect??? Shake things up already !!!!! put higgins in!

  26. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 4:25 pm

not good that they only have 8 kills, 4 by Hartong, out of the 14 points.

  27. LanaiBoy October 26, 2013 4:25 pm

looking a bit sharper now. Maybe too late, but good omen.

  28. Maverick October 26, 2013 4:26 pm

    24. While I understand your frustration, putting in a freshman setter when you have a senior is only going to make things worse. Higgins is good but not a panacea.

  29. Maverick October 26, 2013 4:26 pm

    Just saw a middle kill…great.

  30. EQ October 26, 2013 4:26 pm

    It’s a deep hole, but they’re trying now…c’mon!

  31. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 4:26 pm

UH has pulled to 21-18 after ace by Uiato. TO Davis

  32. Maverick October 26, 2013 4:27 pm

It’s gotten interesting at 21-18 Davis.

  33. LanaiBoy October 26, 2013 4:27 pm

A comeback. Maybe not too late this set. Hartong taking over again. 21-18.

  34. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 4:30 pm

got it to 21-20, 23-21. probably too late of a rally. that was a big hold.

  35. Maverick October 26, 2013 4:30 pm

Hate the way the Davis announcer is pronouncing Wahine–sounds like Wahini

  36. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 4:30 pm

    UCD wins 25-21

  37. LanaiBoy October 26, 2013 4:31 pm

Yep. Too late, Bows down one set. However, a bit of momentum for the 2nd set. I am optimistic. I think the Bows will come through.

  38. Maverick October 26, 2013 4:32 pm

Taylor and Olevao have 10 attempts each out of 33 total attacks. Perhaps UH is making a conscious effort to get those two more reps as they realize Emily will wear down without more help.

  39. haleiwacrossfitter October 26, 2013 4:32 pm

At least there was some fight there at the end. They need to carry this into the 2nd set.

And, the WHOLE TEAM got them to this point, not anyone in particular. They all have been playing badly. No need to get down on any particular player

  40. Ki October 26, 2013 4:32 pm

Hawaii needs a coach who can reach them how to block cause they really suck at it.

  41. LC October 26, 2013 4:32 pm

When your confidence is shaken it can diffidently work on your mind especially with women’s teams.Depending on the individual it can take time.

  42. Maverick October 26, 2013 4:33 pm

Middles need to be set more…six total attemps and still hitting negative combined.

  43. haleiwacrossfitter October 26, 2013 4:34 pm

But I do agree, if the team continues to play like this, you need to shake things up a bit. That is why there is a bench and why you train in practice. You never know what someone can bring to the floor after watching for so long. It has happened before

  44. Volleyball fan October 26, 2013 4:34 pm

Yesterday Cal Poly fell way behind in set one, losing 8 points in a row. I used to go to Cal Poly, that’s why I was interested. Anyway, I was so disgusted, I stopped watching. Later when I checked the results, I expected to find them crushed in three straight sets only to learn that they made an improbable comeback thanks to their super digging effort and beat Fullerton in four sets. So I went back and watched the match and it was just amazing! So it’s not over till it’s over. Hope that Hawaii can wake up and turn this match around like Cal Poly did yesterday.

  45. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 4:34 pm

    Aggies hit .270, 4 aces, 3 SE13 digs, 2 blocks
    UH .121, 3 aces, 0 SE, 13 digs, 3 blocks.
    Hartong 5-0-7, Olevao 2-3-10. Adolpho 0-1-3, Taylor 2-1-10, Vorster 1-1-3

  46. LanaiBoy October 26, 2013 4:34 pm

Hartong is singlehandedly carrying the team the 1st set. Everyone stats are really bad, most hitting negative or zero.

  47. Maverick October 26, 2013 4:37 pm

Ugh..that was an ugly hit by Adolpho into the antenna.

  48. Warriorfan October 26, 2013 4:38 pm

Sorry when the offense continues to struggle put in a different quarterback it’s not working this weekend under Uiato.
Can not afford to lose this one.

  49. EQ October 26, 2013 4:40 pm

    Blocking = sad.

  50. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 4:41 pm

    47. agree they cannot afford to lose this. UCD Up 7-6

  51. Maverick October 26, 2013 4:41 pm

    47. Don’t think the quarterback is the issue, it is the strategy put in place by the coaches and the passing of the back row that should be reviewed.

  52. Jane October 26, 2013 4:42 pm

All opposing teams are so excited to play UH because they know they have a chance to beat UH. Where are the wahines excitement to simply play?

  53. Maverick October 26, 2013 4:43 pm

Adolpho not looking good at all. She is not elevating. Similar to what I saw from her in the UCSB loss.

  54. LanaiBoy October 26, 2013 4:44 pm

Why is there seems to be well-formed blocks for Hawaii’s outside while Hawaii’s blockers always seem to be a tad late when attempting to block?

  55. wop ur jaws October 26, 2013 4:45 pm

    why is manu still in?

  56. LC October 26, 2013 4:46 pm

We have known since day one this year that OH 2 was a weak spot.

  57. grace October 26, 2013 4:47 pm

Sometimes you just wonder why more women are leaving early. Really???

  58. Ashley October 26, 2013 4:47 pm

    54. I agree. Kastl should be in not her

  59. grace October 26, 2013 4:47 pm

The program early? Is it them or ?

  60. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 4:49 pm

what are you guys talking about. Leaving early?

  61. Maverick October 26, 2013 4:49 pm

Cindy, has Shoji commented on why he thinks team is not playing well as of late or his thoughts after UH’s Thursday loss?

  62. wop ur jaws October 26, 2013 4:49 pm

Dave needs to light a fire or get out. Stop trying to do the same thing.

  63. LC October 26, 2013 4:50 pm

Kastl isn’t any better than Tai .

  64. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 4:51 pm

I have not spoken to Shoji. Ann Miller is at tonight’s match.

  65. Maverick October 26, 2013 4:51 pm

    62. Agree. She brings more energy, but her hitting is not superior to Oleavao’s.

  66. LC October 26, 2013 4:52 pm

Dave is just saying the same old stuff he could very well be the problem.

  67. EQ October 26, 2013 4:53 pm

a closer set, but just can’t seem to maintain some kind of rhythm

  68. LanaiBoy October 26, 2013 4:54 pm

Wow, the Aggies are picking up all the spikes by Hartong, Taylor, and Manu-Olevao. Look like San Diego.

  69. grace October 26, 2013 4:54 pm

The truth is hard but enough sometimes with just being positive. That is why our kids today feel so entitled. They need to hear the truth. Enough about them being kids; this pays for their education. Grow up people; stop being that same local style nicey nice. Look at USC football, you dont produce…you get fired. This is not for Shoji. Humility is hard; but needed

  70. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 4:54 pm

    65. no one seems to have a problem when they are winning.

  71. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 4:55 pm

    UCD 21-16. TO UH

  72. haleiwacrossfitter October 26, 2013 4:55 pm

Can’t believe this is happening….could we possibly be getting swept??

  73. DS October 26, 2013 4:55 pm

    #62 you know kastl well?

  74. Maverick October 26, 2013 4:55 pm

    69. +1,000,000

  75. wop ur jaws October 26, 2013 4:55 pm

she is more consistent all around. With my own eyes, her energy and heart is there.

  76. Maverick October 26, 2013 4:56 pm

    71. Let’s not jump the gun here.

  77. EQ October 26, 2013 4:56 pm

    spoke too soon…..another TO

  78. Maverick October 26, 2013 4:58 pm

Unsung player is Longo. She’s playing very well.

  79. EQ October 26, 2013 4:59 pm

    Davis sure loves to sing….

  80. haleiwacrossfitter October 26, 2013 4:59 pm

The way the play has been as of late, don’t think that is jumping the gun at all. If we lose this game, that’s 2 games down. Just stating what could possibly be the obvious in about 2 points

  81. EQ October 26, 2013 5:02 pm

    77. agreed. Longo seems to be the only one “on”. We need more blocks!

  82. Maverick October 26, 2013 5:03 pm

    79. Then by using your logic, it is possible that UH loses four out of its next six matches given their recent won-loss record.

  83. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 5:03 pm

I think Hartong is on, 11-0-23. set too much but no one else helping much

  84. haleiwacrossfitter October 26, 2013 5:04 pm

    If they don’t play better…sure

  85. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 5:04 pm

    UCD wins 25-22

  86. AS October 26, 2013 5:05 pm

Defensive players look good, Longo, Mendoza and Courtney serving. But we need to ignite the whole team. We need some passion!

  87. EQ October 26, 2013 5:06 pm

You are right Cindy. Emily is working overtime, like when Jane was out last year. but this time, unfortunately the other hitters not helping.

  88. grace October 26, 2013 5:07 pm

There is seems to be some internal problems. I feel everybody who has followed the Wahine over the years can see! Only everybody who complains about Olevao-Kastl all the time seems consistent. There is a definite problem. Why is there so much reluctance to try starting Kastl? It may light a fire under Olevao. We are not a very good team anymore. The Big West is not that good to be down 2-0 to UC Davis. This really takes the joy from beating Texas, Arizona, UCLA, Creighton, etc.. How many more girls going leave the team? Gut check, Character check, or favortism?

  89. Maverick October 26, 2013 5:07 pm

    83. Hardly prescient.

  90. vbfan October 26, 2013 5:07 pm

I am mystified. Something is wrong with this team. How can they play so well for the first month and half of the season and just look terrible the last few weeks. They swept Wichita State on the road, that’s a better team than any in the Big West. I don’t get it. This is NOT the same team as in the preseason that’s for sure.

  91. LanaiBoy October 26, 2013 5:08 pm

Shoji wasn’t kidding when he said that Hawaii is not a good blocking team. Sometimes the matches seem like a shooting gallery with almost no blocking presence at all on the Hawaii side. I guess this can be solved with better recruiting. I’m beginning to think that great blockers are born and can’t be taught. I don’t want to seem harsh but I think Vorster will always be a mediocre blocker.

  92. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 5:09 pm

    For the 2 sets
    UH 195. 4 aces (1 in Set 2), 0 SE, 39 digs, 4 blocks
    UCD 294, 5 aces, 5 SE, 35 digs, 4 blocks.
    Taylor 4-3-18, Vorster 3-1-5, Manu-Olevao 7-4-21, Hartong 11-0-23, Adolpho 2-4-1. Tuaniga no stats
Long 9 digs, Goodman no stats. not sure why Higans 1 assist.
used 12 players, don’t see Kastl listed. they have Passi in the stats for a bit. We know that’s wrong.

  93. haleiwacrossfitter October 26, 2013 5:09 pm

Don’t know why you’re making a big thing about a comment…but based on your comment of the next six matches. Take a look at who the next six are….definitely possible.

  94. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 5:11 pm

    86. still don’t understand your comment about ‘how many more girls leaving the team.’
    what are you referring to?

  95. LC October 26, 2013 5:12 pm

The head coach changed the whole demeanor of this team somewhere around Oct 14th I think they don’t really care anymore. Nothing they do is ever good enough for him.

  96. Volleyball fan October 26, 2013 5:12 pm

Looking at the stats, Davis has a balanced attack. Despite Hartong’s flawless hitting (but three receive errors already), she can’t carry the team alone. Amazing that Hawaii had no service errors. That kept them close but not close enough. Blocks are about the same but hitting errors plague Hawaii. It’s a tall order to try to come back in three sets. I’m not as hopeful as at the end of set 1.

  97. Maverick October 26, 2013 5:12 pm

    88. Some interesting stats from Wichita St. match: UH hitting–Hartong .278, Taylor .350, Oleavo .269, Vorster .429, Adolpho .308. Tonight, the numbers are .478, .056, .143, .400, -.166. Hartong is not getting the support she used to.

  98. Jane October 26, 2013 5:13 pm

We are puzzled as to why they are playing badly but so is the team. If they knew what was going on, they would play better. They know what is expected of them.

  99. Volleyball fan October 26, 2013 5:14 pm

LC (93) How did the head coach change the whole demeanor of the team? You got me curious there. Were you there? Did someone tell you something?

  100. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 5:14 pm

one difference last year was UH won the 5 setters, well except for Cal and UW.
CSUN, Fullerton, UOP, all went five in 2012.

  101. Maverick October 26, 2013 5:15 pm

    91. If the idea is that anything is possible, then you aren’t saying anything interesting, but merely reacting to short term results and pushing a panic button. Very common to see people do this.

  102. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 5:15 pm

    93. exactly how did he do that around Oct. 14?? please enlighten us.
the Monday before the alumnae match.

  103. Jane October 26, 2013 5:17 pm

    93. WHAT??????

  104. haleiwacrossfitter October 26, 2013 5:17 pm

I said “could we possibly be getting swept?” i don’t feel that’s pushing that panic button, then just stating a question of possibility

  105. Maverick October 26, 2013 5:19 pm

It’s possible for Penn St. not to make the tournament if they lose all their remaining matches. It’s possible.

  106. LC October 26, 2013 5:20 pm

No one is leaving that I have heard about but you never know.

  107. grace October 26, 2013 5:21 pm

It is not Emily;the lineup needs CHANGE!! If it is not working ,change is good. There are only 2 SOLIDIFIED STARTERS; (Emily and Longo). We must be 2 deep in every position. Look at how many girls had to go away and play. (They are playing major parts in their team’s success) So what are we doing staying 1 deep. Losing 2 games and being down 2-0 to UC Davis should be a concern. Just hope this fairy tale season can be turned around. At least now we just will be happy to get to postseason and play ANYWHERE because that is what wr deserve..YOU CAN DO IT GIRLS!!!

  108. haleiwacrossfitter October 26, 2013 5:21 pm

Sure is, and so you have a problem with me stating possibilities? Then I won’t if that makes you happy. No big deal

  109. Maverick October 26, 2013 5:24 pm

as I said before, if the idea is that anything is possible, then you aren’t saying anything interesting

  110. airinfall October 26, 2013 5:25 pm

    86. 88. I agree with everything you’ve posted on this blog. Having a team dynamic skewed to the performance of “on” players and players being “off” will not win games. The experience in mental toughness of the collegiate game is starting to show in these younger players, in regards to their performance on the court and what they let linger in their scholastic performance. It seems in the past couple weeks, these “off” players haven’t been “present” in their on-court performance. Many factors come into play, but to what degree are the players and coaches held accountable for leveling this dynamic? The coaching staff and supporting cast of athletes need to contribute to the development of “present” players, maybe revisit mantras and objectives they experienced in their fall camp motivational sessions. We are all well aware of the capabilities of this team [coaches and athletes] and the potential they promise, but if you’re not reacting at all to remedy the apparent issues, you better be more proactive in making sure there are slim chances of “off” players and team dynamic occur. I support Na Wahine Volleyball and will pull for them through-and-through because I believe there will be change. IMUA NA WAHINE, IMUA!

  111. Maverick October 26, 2013 5:25 pm

    106. Say whatever you want. Ignore me too if you like. No worries. You need to have a thick skin on this blog.

  112. haleiwacrossfitter October 26, 2013 5:25 pm

Well, I guess you felt the inclination to tell me that what I am not saying is interesting..ok, thanks for your feedback. I’ll try to make my future comments more entertaining for you. You’re welcome

  113. Maverick October 26, 2013 5:26 pm

You already have entertained me beyond expectation.

  114. haleiwacrossfitter October 26, 2013 5:27 pm

correction: what I am saying is not interesting…ah, you know what I meant. Hope that was more entertaining for ya

  115. LC October 26, 2013 5:27 pm

You don’t go from heros to zeros overnight in a conference like the Big West, think about that. Someone took the fire out of them and it wasn’t UCSB.

  116. haleiwacrossfitter October 26, 2013 5:28 pm

Well I’m glad someone is entertaining you and I’m glad you are so easily entertained. This match sure as heck isn’t entertaining.

  117. Maverick October 26, 2013 5:29 pm

    111. Please make another comment. This blog is not so interesting at the moment.

  118. haleiwacrossfitter October 26, 2013 5:30 pm

    Anything to please you

  119. wop ur jaws October 26, 2013 5:30 pm

    score?

  120. Maverick October 26, 2013 5:30 pm

    113. Now you done it…I agree with you on the match.

  121. Maverick October 26, 2013 5:30 pm

    17-12 UH

  122. EQ October 26, 2013 5:31 pm

    112. Yup

  123. LC October 26, 2013 5:32 pm

Well Kastl is in keep an eye on her stats and lets see how she does.

  124. Maverick October 26, 2013 5:33 pm

Olevao hitting .280 for the match so far. Kastl is negative but she just started playing.

  125. haleiwacrossfitter October 26, 2013 5:33 pm

well I don’t know, it’s getting a little better. A 5 game win would possibly make this more entertaining. Oops, stating a possibility, sorry about that…dang it!

  126. Maverick October 26, 2013 5:34 pm

That possibility is much more probable than a UC Davis sweep

  127. airinfall October 26, 2013 5:35 pm

Kastl brings something intangible Olevao doesn’t: dynamic!? Maybe!?

  128. vbfan October 26, 2013 5:36 pm

    Looking like its going 4

  129. haleiwacrossfitter October 26, 2013 5:36 pm

    yeah, but not that interesting

  130. Maverick October 26, 2013 5:37 pm

But the match would be more interesting

  131. paniolo1 October 26, 2013 5:37 pm

    118: thank you!
was wondering if anyone was ever gonna comment on the game right now. yes, the team is in a terrible funk and i agree is a lot of comments. but, geeeeez, what doomsayer people…fans??

  132. EQ October 26, 2013 5:37 pm

    Don’t slack now Wahine. focus!

  133. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 5:38 pm

    119. WUJ, you can easily get gametracker since you are online

  134. Maverick October 26, 2013 5:38 pm

UH wins set 3. On to #4.

  135. haleiwacrossfitter October 26, 2013 5:39 pm

I still believe what is going on with the team right now is just a mid season slump and when they kick out of it, and they will, no matter where they end up on the road for the post season, they will tear it up, because they do have the talent to do it and they have already proven it this year that they can beat anyone. So, they are just setting themselves up for the best season come back, that’s all

  136. Maverick October 26, 2013 5:39 pm

Gametracker is a point or two ahead of the video, fyi.

  137. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 5:39 pm

    115. still curious that you picked Oct. 14. what do you think happened then?

  138. airinfall October 26, 2013 5:40 pm

    haleiwacrossfitter: I concur

  139. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 5:41 pm

    UH wins 25-19

  140. LanaiBoy October 26, 2013 5:42 pm

Hartong is having a super match (18 kills) and Manu-Olevao a good one. Vorster has four kills on only 7 attempts. Today, all outside, no middle attacks.

  141. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 5:44 pm

UH up to 254, 58 digs. 7 blocks
    Taylor 5-4-22, Vorster 4-1-7, Manu-Olevao 11-4-25, Hartong 18-1-39, Adolpho 4-4-15, Kastl 0-1-4 Long 0-1-2. Goodman 0-0-0
    UCD 218.

  142. EQ October 26, 2013 5:45 pm

    Now they’re playing.

  143. Maverick October 26, 2013 5:46 pm

Kastl has 5 attempts, Long has 2…think you have a couple of typos

  144. LanaiBoy October 26, 2013 5:47 pm

Now the Aggies seem a bit demoralized.

  145. EQ October 26, 2013 5:48 pm

wow…let’s take a picture of the ball as it drops.

  146. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 5:50 pm

    143. thanks. added a couple of 1s in there. typing too quickly.
UH was up 7-1. UCD has come back to within 9-6. TO UH

  147. Maverick October 26, 2013 5:50 pm

Adolpho not elevating as well, hitting the top of the net again. Not sure what’s going on with her.

  148. LC October 26, 2013 5:51 pm

The best thing we could do is let them work their way out of this themselves. At some point they just might get sick of how things are going and get their groove back.

I realize it is hard for us because we act like the parents you run into at club events or Little League games .Everyone wants their kids to be the best they can be.

  149. Maverick October 26, 2013 5:54 pm

    146. No problem. just didn’t want bloggers to trash Kastl and Long for such abysmal numbers.

  150. LC October 26, 2013 5:56 pm

Two more digs and Tai has a double, double.

  151. EQ October 26, 2013 5:58 pm

Don’t let this one slip by you Wahine!

  152. soo stupid October 26, 2013 5:58 pm

    First sink I’ve seen

  153. Maverick October 26, 2013 6:00 pm

Agree with Cindy that Emily is being set too much now at 35% of all attempts. But when no one else is stepping up, not many options outside of subbing in other players.

  154. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 6:00 pm

    UH up 18-13 on Hartong’s 25th kill.

    now 19-14 on her 26th.
    Olevao 11 kills, 10 digs.
    it’s 20-14 TO UCD

  155. wop ur jaws October 26, 2013 6:01 pm

where do you see the score?
is it on tv? the internet doesnt show it

  161. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 6:07 pm

you can always go to UH website hawaiiathletics.com The wahine schedule page usually has the Livestats link, home and away.
trying to figure out who got the dig they have given Kyra Goodman.

  162. LanaiBoy October 26, 2013 6:07 pm

In a 15 point set, anything can happen. The momentum is all on the Hawaii side. I said in the beginning that I believe Hawaii would come back and win the match. I hope I’m correct.

  163. LC October 26, 2013 6:08 pm

Digg’n Na Wahine blog suggested this morning that maybe we should help boost optimism by adopting what the Red Sox fans did for Shane Victorino.

  164. LC October 26, 2013 6:09 pm

Now is the time to change this 5 set record we have.

  165. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 6:09 pm

    UH up to 265, 74 digs, 5 players in double-digits, 8 blocks
    Taylor 7-5-25, Vorster 5-1-9, Manu-Olevao 12-6-33, Hartong 26-1-53, Adolpho 5-5-19, Tuaniga 0-0-0, Kastl 0-1-5. Long 0-1-2

  166. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 6:10 pm

uh down 0-3 to start set 5. to wahine

  167. Maverick October 26, 2013 6:10 pm

UH down 3-0 in set 5

  168. Jane October 26, 2013 6:11 pm

EVERYONE knows in that gym that the ball is going to Hartong.

  169. LC October 26, 2013 6:11 pm

  170. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 6:12 pm

  172. wop ur jaws October 26, 2013 6:14 pm

    again why is manu in?

  173. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 6:15 pm

Wahine give up 5-0 run. Down 8-4 at the changeover.

  174. wop ur jaws October 26, 2013 6:15 pm

they suck right now and He doesn’t do anything.

  175. Jane October 26, 2013 6:16 pm

Not looking good. Taylor and Tai have really come down to earth from the beginning of the year. Wouldn’t want to be the one interviewing Dave. He will not be in a good mood.

  176. Maverick October 26, 2013 6:17 pm

    175. I would want to be the one interviewing wop ur jaws

  177. wop ur jaws October 26, 2013 6:17 pm

one mis hit from a set to wide and kastl gets pulled, manu stays in after how many errors in this set alone. Makes no sense. They should just lose already.

  178. Maverick October 26, 2013 6:17 pm

    wouldn’t

  179. EQ October 26, 2013 6:20 pm

all this way to lose the momentum in the 5th…..

  180. wop ur jaws October 26, 2013 6:21 pm

its old school coaching like in my day. Let them fall to teach them a lesson of attitude and humilty. girls in sports are very emotional and moody. He ways is so old school.

  181. soo stupid October 26, 2013 6:21 pm

    No middle attack

  182. Maverick October 26, 2013 6:22 pm

    Hawaii loses

  183. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 6:22 pm

UH loses 15-9. be back in a bit

  184. haleiwacrossfitter October 26, 2013 6:24 pm

    ugh…

  185. jmy October 26, 2013 6:24 pm

Major funk…hosting is out, but the NCAA tourney itself is not, as some people would like to believe…I think to be excluded, UH would have to be around .500 in won-loss…

  186. Warriorfan October 26, 2013 6:25 pm

Disgusting weekend. They don’t have the will to win!!!

  187. EQ October 26, 2013 6:25 pm

This can’t be the ranked team as the start of the season. Who knows where the wahines will fall to in the ranks. A lot of soul searching to be done come next week.

  188. wop ur jaws October 26, 2013 6:25 pm

its about character and being better people. Not like other schools and coaching, like Washington. There its all about winning. He will deal with the bull later but when a win is on the line, Maclaughlin will replace players easily because he wants the win. Dave is different, if he sees lack of effort as a team, he will let them falter. Only when he is seeing extra effort does he get into the match and want to coach otherwise he will let them fail.

  189. Maverick October 26, 2013 6:25 pm

Anyone know the last time UH lost two conference matches in a row? Was before 2001 sometime…

  190. me mei October 26, 2013 6:26 pm

waa waa, don’ know what it going to happen now??? are they even going to be in the post season? aren’t they like now 4th in the conference???

  191. haleiwacrossfitter October 26, 2013 6:26 pm

    I would think 1992? maybe 1993?

  192. haleiwacrossfitter October 26, 2013 6:27 pm

    shoot, maybe even 97

  193. vbfan October 26, 2013 6:28 pm

Bottom line we are not a very good team right now. I’m not one to panic, but at this point changes have to be made. Whatever they’re doing it’s not working. I was willing to write off one bad game as a fluke, but this is now several games in a row of subpar play.

This team has way too much talent to be losing to middle of the pack Big West teams.

  194. Ashley October 26, 2013 6:28 pm

what else is there to say? NOTHING! I guess Hawaii is most likely going to have to hope to get into the NCAA tournament because there is no way they are winning the big west this year. they are so disappointing as of late and I don’t even know where to begin with the way they have performed lately.

  195. frings October 26, 2013 6:28 pm

At least football is winn…..oh wait.

  196. Volleyball fan October 26, 2013 6:29 pm

Hartong made a Herculean effort with 29 kills and 21 digs. This team lacks a sidekick to her. We just don’t have the horses or they are very tired horses. Seems like the team can’t win in five sets except at Creighton. All their loses came in the fifth set. When Hartong leave, the heart of the team will just go with her. She’s such a workhorse but gets little help. My heart goes to Hartong.

  197. Cubicle1126 October 26, 2013 6:32 pm

something has gone wrong with wahine volleyball …

time to throw open most of the starting spots, b/c the starters need to feel the heat of competing for their positions.

  198. Jane October 26, 2013 6:33 pm

    195. Agree. Hate to see what the team will look like next year. The Big West conference is the happiest conference right now – everyone is beating the conference bullies.

  199. Kazu October 26, 2013 6:33 pm

Wahine can’t go five sets. UCSB, and Northridge going fwd,Wahines going backwards. The rest of the Big West teams knows just how to play the Wahine, and they can’t seem to do anything to turn it around. Looks like Wong was doing all the coaching..Hope the football team does better.

  200. LC October 26, 2013 6:34 pm

LOL #198 football is even worse down 14-0 already

  202. jake October 26, 2013 6:40 pm

were there any changes in the rotation b/t the 4th and 5th set?

  203. haleiwacrossfitter October 26, 2013 6:43 pm

Man…steve/laura/dedicatedfan is tearing it up on volleytalk. even with the negative going on with the blog right now, I am glad he/she/it is not on this blog anymore….wish volleytalk would ban “dedicatedfan” too

  204. Mario October 26, 2013 6:51 pm

When UCLA was sliding and wasn’t doing too well coach Banachowski steps down. Maybe its about time to do the same thing at UH. Nothing against our coach.

  205. vbfan October 26, 2013 7:06 pm

#206 Too much chance that the search committee will screw it up, remember that’s how we got Norm Chow.

  206. Kazu October 26, 2013 7:13 pm

I think Shoji is still trying to get over the Dodgers not making it to the world series. Anyway there’s six more matches before everyone will be talking about next season. Sr. night should be a good one, rematch with Northridge.

  207. Cindy Luis October 26, 2013 7:26 pm

    205. up to VT to do the same as we did.
    206. Bruins were 24-9 his final season. had the FOY in Cook, who decided to then go home to play for her dad at Nebraska.

  208. jake October 26, 2013 7:31 pm

still trying to figure out if and what changes were made for 3rd and 4th. having not listened to the broadcast or followed live stats, i’m thinking something happened b/t 2nd and 4th sets to change the
    momentum.

  209. TW October 26, 2013 9:08 pm

Great effort by Hartong but she can’t win it alone. Couldn’t believe that Olevao and Taylor started every set. What is their incentive to play hard when they start regardless of performance. Hope there are great recruits ready to play cause the current cast isn’t going to get it done. Seems like the coaches are just stubborn or unable to make any adjustments…either way, you lose.

  210. iwonder October 26, 2013 9:15 pm

Calm down people. I think Dave has a strategy….lose some now and then hope to be in a good spot come regional time….Calm down…it’ll be ok.

  211. imua562 October 26, 2013 10:22 pm

Started the 5th with getting aced…they gotta realize that you can’t win tight matches unless you serve and pass!!!!! Why does everyone blame the setter for setting someone that is going to get the kill more times than anyone else. She tried to spread the offense in the beginning of the 1st set and the middles made way too many errors – Kalei little off lately and Jade arm swing is slow. At one point the coach told her not to set certain middle sets anymore. Passing was the major issue in the game. Kastl may not be as aggressive of a hitter but when she was in the 3rd game, passing was a little more stable. Setting is a tough situation because you are torn between trying to run an offense with bad passing and middles that are making errors with just setting the person that the coach basically wants you to set every time. Coaching staff doesn’t like when other players make hitting errors and you can visibly tell that they are upset/disappointed that the set didn’t go to Hartong when others make mistakes. Call a spade a spade and stop blaming…Issue is the passing, erratic middles that can’t block quicks and the revolving door on the left side… Girls just gotta dig deep and try to finish strong!

  212. Cindy Luis October 28, 2013 6:57 am

    212. doubt very seriously if the strategy was to lose. there is no gain in that, particularly since they wanted to stay at home for the first-second rounds instead of traveling.

  213. Cindy Luis October 28, 2013 7:20 am

    211. they don’t have a lot of options outside of those two. As has been pointed out from early on the L2 slot was going to be a problem as was a consistent RS.
Goodman is a solid player, especially blocking, but Taylor is perhaps a better option for offense.
The issue is what happens when both of them are off? results in Hartong having to carry even more of the load.
