Assuming Texas hosts it would be the easiest regional, where Shoji can out-coach Jerritt Elliot. Minnesota runs a fast double middle attack (slide/combo), which UH has trouble blocking. Washington is a psychological nightmare for Wahine. USC serves very tough (Bricio lead PAC-12 in service aces last year) and UH serve receive is very weak (Kahakai and Olevao primary passers).
Hawaii vs. LMU in the UCLA sub which winner goes to the San Diego Regional.
Louisville?
#1 USC in the San Diego/California regional, #2 Texas in the Austin/Texas regional, #3 Minnesota in the Des Moines/Iowa regional, #4 Nebraska — or #4 Washington — in the Lexington/Kentucky regional.
Regarding the ASU vs. Wahine basketball game, there were about 15 layups for points by ASU according to the box score. In the 2nd quarter, there were 7 consecutive layups for points. Don’t know the usual number for teams, but Wahine have to do something to counter these, so i suggest try a zone defense sometimes.
#1 Washington (San Diego)
#2 Minnesota (Des Moines)
#3 Texas (Austin)
#4 Nebraska (Louisville)
The Wahine basketball players need to learn how to use the backboard better when 10 ft and in on angle shots. This will limit some of their bad misses. The late Coach Wooden from UCLA emphasized using the back board.
Using the backboard is almost a lost skill set. Too many turnovers from forcing passes, post players need to keep moving instead of waiting for a pass.
As far as volleyball, I’m just happy our team has a chance in the tournament and whereever we go so be it. Let the games begin.
In your opinion Cindy, which sub-regional and regional would you guess as the likely places the committee will send the Wahine? (Under the assumption of course that they are not selected to host)
Why do people discuss basketball and football in these exclusive volleyball blogs? Please stick to the topic.
Re the 3:30 p.m. tweets, could someone in the twitterverse post here? We’ve got the popcorn popper ready to go for 4 p.m.
9, The women’s basketball makes sense since our host covers it, and unless I’m mistaken, the Court Sense blog is for men’s bb. Football, sighhhhh, football. That has been a weight on a lot of people’s minds.
off the topic, but was curious, anyone know when the big west awards are announced?
If they can’t host, I think the players would probably want to be sent somewhere on the west coast; close to friends and family. Traveling across the US to the midwest or farther would be an added hardship. Anywhere they go will be tough. There is a lot of parity this year.
11. They are being announced Nov.30 at 11 AM PT
On the contrary, going farther east would be better for Hawaii if they are not hosting. I’d hate to be in USC, UCLA, or Washington’s Subregional. USC & Washington have been pretty solid all year, and Mike Sealy knows most of Dave’s tactical moves. We’d be better off in the Texas/ Louisville Regionals.
Found the following — look at # 2 — while poking around ESPN to get ready for 4 p.m.
