UH sweeps dual with Santa Clara 5-0
1. Taylor-Tiegs, 21-9, 21-6
2. Spieler-Urban, 21-16, 21-17
3. Brook-Rooks 21-13, 21-12
only have scores for last 2 pairs
4. 22-20, 21-15
5. 21-15, 19-21, 15-10
Meanwhile down in La Jolla, Tritons take Set 1 25-23
embarassing. Siki and Sedore need to play better.
Triton livestats seem not-so-live. Still show no score in set 2.
Warriors win 25–19
Did I see an abbreviated slide (Averill)? First attempt didn’t work, but the second attempt scored.
I am a little worried they have to play the starters so much, was hoping they could rest some for the UCLA matches monday and tuesday.
Ryan Leung has been giving Sedore a rest in S3.
15-6 UH.
UH takes S3 by 15 points.
UH wins set 3 25-10
Alex Jones setting in S4.
Sunny was still in in S4, perhaps as security since UH’s lead wasn’t too comfortable.
UH takes it, 25-18.
Looking like UCI will beat BYU for a second night in Smith. Anteaters up 2-1 and leading in Set 4.
BTW…looks like UCI gonna take 2 from BYU
BYU doesn’t have a go to hitter like UH and UCI do.
Looks like UH will have to finish undefeated to host the MPSF tourney, Irvine wins the tiebreak against UH.
Russell of UCI serving and hitting bombs. La Cavera of UCI also looking unstoppable
wonder who is the better libero Brinkley of UCI or Kanetake
Brinkley is a better passer, but I think Kanetake is a better digger.
BYU calls TO 19-12 but it is way too late. UCI looking like a champ
Pepp and Northridge going 5. wow.
BYU is not a good serving team, they aren’t pressuring UCI’s passers at all.
UCI wins in 4. First time BYU hasn’t won a match in March. Cougars on a six-match losing skid, first since 1991.
BYU plays two at northridge, they could lose both, and then two against UH. Really hope they lose 4 straight at home for the first time ever.
Irvine beat BYU again in four sets! No breathing room left for the Warriors. Now they must all six remaining matches. Irvine will have an easy schedule from now on playing five teams on the lower tier. CSUN and Long Beach at home, UCSB and UCLA on the road and final match against San Diego. No upsets likely against Irvine. UH must control its own fate from now on. It will be toughest to beat BYU at their senior night match. Bows will have to work very, very hard to stay on top.
I think if Siki And Sedore play well, they should finish unbeaten. They both have struggled lately.
Other scores Saturday:
USC def. UCLA, 19-25, 25-22, 14-25, 25-22, 15-11
Pepperdine def. CSUN, 25-22, 20-25, 19-25, 25-23, 15-12
Long Beach State def. Stanford, 25-20, 25-17, 25-21
UC Santa Barbara def. Cal Baptist, 25-22, 25-18, 25-21
24.) Not only BYU! Even though UCLA is having a down year this year, it is still UCLA (at UCLA!). IMHO shouldn’t be looking past the next two matches.
BYU is playing hurt.
Dobbert out of the year and one of their players just got cleared after tests after they discovered a heart murmur.
Wouldn’t be surprised if they dropped two at CSUN. Matadors almost knocked off Pepperdine tonight.
Did Kanetake make the trip?
27. I am not looking past UCLA either. I said that UH will have to work very hard to win all six matches. (I left out a word accidentally.)
Kanetake made the trip. he sprained an ankle (I think) in practice and was on crutches for a few days. Not sure when he’ll be cleared to play.
