Starters for Hawaii: Mol, Franciskovic, Fey, Kanetake, van Tilburg, Zarkovic and McKellar
Pepperdine up 15-12 at the TTO. UH led 12-10.
Kanetake aced. Pepperdine up 20-15. TO UH
Warriors have closed to 22-19 on a kill by van Tilburg. TO Pepperdine.
Pepperdine takes Set 1 25-20
Hawaii has got to clean it up a bit for set 2. Too many errors (hitting & serving) and too many overpasses. Hearing the Pepperdine announcer makes me REALLY appreciate what a good job Tiff does!! I’m sad he’s not doing these matches.
-Aloha!
Siki trying to motivate his teammates!
If the passing cannot get into gear, this will be a sweep.
After 11 ties, Pepperdine has pulled away at 20-17. TO UH
Zarkovic blocked. Pepperdine up 22-18. TO UH
Pepperdine wins Set 2 25-20
Just way too many hitting errors, team is playing way down from Sunday.
Too many errors, not enough defense.
UH just looks bad, this is not a good showing at all.
14. yep. Pepperdine up 15-11. TO UH
This is where having Tui would have helped this team, Fey struggling, Rosenmeier comes in but is inexperienced.
UH has closed to 15-14. TO Pepperdine
16. well, there is no Tui so no sense discussing it. They have who they have.
UH had tied it at 15. Pepperdine uses 2 aces to help take a 18-15 lead. TO UH
Zarkovic’s 13th kill pulls UH to 19-17. TO Pepperdine
First time seeing Hawaii and theres a lot to work on. BYU loses to Stanford in 5, the Stanford setter is a GREAT one!
Not a good match by Kanetake at all, shaky passing and not many digs.
I think CHarlie maybe should have put in Worsley at libero.
UH had brief leads at 21-20 and 22-21 but couple of aces at the end and Waves sweep 25-22
Probably the worst match I’ve seen Hawaii play since the 2014 season. Just bad passing and too many errors hitting wise. Hope they turn things around tomorrow.
The middle blockers are not even blocking. The team has three freshmen middle blockers. Are they that bad that they can’t even play at all?
The worst play of the match was a dig that went down on Hawaii’s side without anyone even going for it. The Warriors lost their focus and did not play like warriors but more like sleep walkers.
The Waves really stacked their block on the outsides, Hawaii’s lack of middles will not serve them well against the top teams in the MPSF. Agree, not a good effort at all, hopefully they can compete better tomorrow night, this Waves team is very beatable.
Hawaii middles have a way to go but they were the least of the problems, IMO they both blocked well against Lewis by the way.
The most disappointing today is the play of Fey I was hoping he would be more consistent this year, and senior Kanetake, he was just bad all match long. They need to play like experienced upperclassmen and show up tomorrow.
27. Hawaii’s middles … we knew it was going got be a long season when they had to convert two OH/OPP.
first road trip, fairly young team, smaller gym. Even really good UH teams have lost in Firestone.

A loss at this time of year is not the end of the world. We need to establish a middle attack and our blocking was not there. The new guys need time to learn their assignments. We will be OK. My only “criticism” is Charlies reluctance to sub in when someone is having a bad game.
#29 sounds like Coach Shoji’s assistant has learned well the teaching of the master.
lol @ warriorfan
MPSF is tough. #11 Stanford beat #1 BYU at BYU. If UH can win at home…win most on the road, we’ll be fine. They didn’t play as well as they could have, but it’s their forst road trip. I’ll be expecting them to be much better today.
Also, Cindy…with Steven out for his surgery for a while are you going to be the MVB beat writer?
-Aloha!

new thread up for Saturday’s match
30. Wade is so far removed from Shoji’s staff that I don’t see the connection.
32. Stephen is out as of yesterday. I picked up the men then. The rewrite in today’s paper is mine. Will have them as long as Stephen is out, or maybe through the end of the season.
