UCI finishes it out, 15-12 in Set 5
Worsley starting, along with Mol, Gasman, van Tilburg, Matautia, Fey and Matautia.
Hawaii up 15-14 at the TTO. Grand View hanging tough.
Gasman with the kill, UH up 18-16. TO GV
Matautia with the soft block of GV setter. it’s 22-18. TO Vikings
UH takes Set 1 25-21 on a GV service error.
wade said he wanted to play a lot of people Franciskovic setting, Rosenmeier at OH and Solbring at MB
some loose play. UH up 11-8. TO GV
UH pulling away at 15-9 at the TTO
Monster block, without the crowd participation by van Tilburg and Solbring and it’s 19-12. TO Vikings
GV hitting error ends it at 25-19.
Nice win by UCI under very difficult conditions…Came back down 19-24 in set 2…Just wanted to mention that because the blog looks really lonely…
12. thanks for chiming in.
Set 3 Worsley back at setter, Tuileta switches to OH. Namahoe at L
and Parapunov in at Opp.
UH up 10-4. TO GV
Warriors up 15-7 at the TTO. so much fun to see Tuileta hit.
Parapunov 6-0-6
12. very good win for UCI, their third straight in Provo. tonight was the only one that counts in conference. Saturday will count only overall.
Parapunov 8-0-8, it’s 19-9. TO Vikings
Warriors sweep 25-13.
Any idea what the schedule will look like next year with the Big West & MPSF?
Rosenmeier is looking like the better option over Fey at OH. Unfortunately for Fey, so do Tuileta and of course Matautia. If Parapunov can stop being a defensive liability, he’s the better option at opposite, and Van Tilburg will be the better option over Fey at OH. I don’t see how Fey hangs on in the starting rotation unless he starts breaking out with some monster sets.
I agree. I think Fey is being outplayed right now and I know Charlie has a hard time to sit him being a senior and all, but right now Stign, Austin and even Tui is ahead of Fey at the OH position. I believe Namahoe can stay at Libero, Tui looks too good at OH to not let him hit out there.
I think Kupono has done a lot for this program i.e, staying home and leading the way for the local talent to stay home (or come back home). He is still very solid but I think we have to have Tui on the left to challenge for a championship. Namahoe has looked really good to me for being so young. His passing has improved each game he has played. So I am saying I concur with 20 and 21. They both know their volleyball.
Kupono still helps and will be important to us like he was in the win against Irvine ,he also always plays well against BYU ,we play them in Provo later, but i would also give the Stijn to left /Rado on the right lineup another chance tomorrow.
It is good and fair to give someone like Fey a “long rope” for what he has done for the program. Props for him for staying home and repping Hawaii but there should not be preference treatment at the expense of winning a match.
Coaches need to treat his playing fairly or else he will lose the trust of the team. If someone is not performing up to par and the second stringer is…then the second stringer should play. It would kill team morale to see a coach give a kid chance after chance after chance while others have one chance and get relegated to bench after only a minimal opportunity. Not saying this is what is happening but it does appear Fey has been very inconsistent lately. Not a good sign for a senior.
24. I agree the team should have a next man up culture. If one guy even if he is the best player on the team ( stijn) isn’t getting the job done one match, the next man up should be called in and see if he can do better. No hard feelings main thing is to win.
Would they consider switching Fey and Tuileta where Fey is the libero since he is a good passer? That way they both stay on the floor but in different positions. Just a thought.
Rado on the right did not work out in the 2nd LBSU match on the mainland.
27. But it did the first match, in fact he was our best player offensively even if he struggled the 2nd night, most kills combined in both matches.
van Tilburg on the left didn’t work well in the 1st match at LBSU, but was good in the 2nd.
Try Rado OH and Steijn Opp.
Rado hits well from the left but I assume he can not pass because he has played right all his life as a left handed player.
Stijn was a left side hitter before arriving at UH, UH moved him to the right last year out of neccessity, I think he’s just gotten used to not passing LOL, he needs to work on his passing because he needs to go back to his original position.
Lori, your suggestion has been discussed and passed along in past blogs and has merit IMO. However; Namahoe has developed faster than expected and I think Fey is still more valuable as guy you can plug in when needed either on the left or at libero.
Grand Canyon beat Lewis today ( could have beat them Friday also), that should help our RPI as well as UCI beating BYU.
the warriors would be in great shape for the at large if they had beaten Long Beach State the first night, ugh. Now need to sweep one of BYU/UCLA and split with the other.

new thread up for Sunday
couple of comments
Fey brings a lot to the court beyond kills. There’s leadership. e’s much better passer and server than Rosenmeier, Wade has said that a lot of the different of different options hinge on how Fey plays and he has not hesitated to pull him, including at Long Beach.
As for next year’s schedule, we only know that it is a true round robin with 10 Big West matches and all six teams go to the conference tournament.
BYU will be here next season, nonconference.
