I really hope it doesn’t negatively affect the team.

  10. H-Man October 2, 2015 4:23 pm

    FYI the shockers lost

  17. Cindy Luis October 2, 2015 4:32 pm

    Mitchem in for Maglio

  18. vbfan4life October 2, 2015 4:32 pm

Nikki blasts and knocks over a player

  19. PBnJz October 2, 2015 4:33 pm

Ugh! None of us wishing for more playing time for Kendra wanted it to come at the expense of Tayler’s health! Hope it’s not too serious!

  20. mei mei October 2, 2015 4:38 pm

yes, indeed.. hope for a quick healing recovery for Ms. Higgins.. her jump serve will be missed as well .

  21. vbfan4life October 2, 2015 4:38 pm

Mitchem and Kendra in so there are the 2 subs

  22. Cindy Luis October 2, 2015 4:39 pm

Cal Poly wins the first set against Long Beach

  24. vbfan4life October 2, 2015 4:41 pm

interesting, usually Kendra sets Nikki well with the D, but 2 mis-sets to her, but great slide to Mitchem

  25. vbfan4life October 2, 2015 4:42 pm

    they are blocking us well

  26. Maverick October 2, 2015 4:43 pm

Mitchem showing her power with the slide kill. Very nice to see.

  27. vbfan4life October 2, 2015 4:45 pm

    15-9 at tto

  28. AlexM October 2, 2015 4:49 pm

Who backups Koelsch, should it be neccesary?

  29. vbfan4life October 2, 2015 4:52 pm

    think i saw granato in

  30. greenthumb October 2, 2015 4:54 pm

Hey, is anyone else getting really blurry video at anything larger than thumbnail size?

  31. vbfan4life October 2, 2015 4:55 pm

i fixed that by choosing multi-screen then deactivating the multiscreen. it could also be the speed of your internet connection

  32. Maverick October 2, 2015 4:56 pm

    31. I’ve got a smart tv and I am playing it from the ESPN app stored on the tv. Completely HD. Sorry if u don’t have the same.

  33. greenthumb October 2, 2015 4:57 pm

Thanks, I’ll try that! It’s actually better on my Kindle Fire than my much faster laptop.

  34. Maverick October 2, 2015 4:57 pm

I like how the backups are getting significant playing. Can’t always happen but am glad it is against the worst team in the conference.

  35. Cindy Luis October 2, 2015 4:58 pm

    UH wins 25-16.
    28. good questions
    granato and Castillo got in
think Ponce the only one who hasn’t played

  36. tongo October 2, 2015 5:00 pm

Koelsch was a little shaky after double hit call but since then has come back strong. She is doing a great job. Mitchem can pound. Tai still needs to relax in backcourt.

  37. tongo October 2, 2015 5:03 pm

#28 good question – is Anderson the backup setter to Koelsch?

  38. vbfan4life October 2, 2015 5:04 pm

too bad Dave won’t start the entire B team. Dave says she needs X-ray and will also be out for tomorrow as well

  39. Cindy Luis October 2, 2015 5:05 pm

Anderson in at libero for Set 3

  40. vbfan4life October 2, 2015 5:05 pm

wouldn’t it be great if Robyn Ah-Mow Santos can come in and set

  41. vbfan4life October 2, 2015 5:07 pm

Is Mitchem playing M1 right now?

  42. vbfan4life October 2, 2015 5:08 pm

wow, we had a few misconnections that play

  43. Cindy Luis October 2, 2015 5:09 pm

    38. well the entire B side would be missing a middle since they only have 3 MB.

  44. vbfan4life October 2, 2015 5:09 pm

    TMO serves before whistle

  45. vbfan4life October 2, 2015 5:11 pm

does anyone have updates on the Beach vs Cal Poly

  46. vbfan4life October 2, 2015 5:12 pm

let’s go and cleanup our overpasses. Great kill Kalei

  47. vbfan4life October 2, 2015 5:13 pm

Yup, Olivia is resting this set

  48. Cindy Luis October 2, 2015 5:13 pm

    44. Not like it doesn’t happen to other players. Sometimes they think they hear a whistle. UH up 11-5

  49. Cindy Luis October 2, 2015 5:15 pm

    45. tied 1-1. you can go to gopoly.com for live stats

  50. vbfan4life October 2, 2015 5:16 pm

wonder if they will try to let Castillo/Granato play front row and get them more development/playing time against this team

  51. jmy October 2, 2015 5:16 pm

Well, so much for Stanford getting it together…

  52. Maverick October 2, 2015 5:18 pm

ASU and USC are the real deals

  53. vbfan4life October 2, 2015 5:21 pm

Interesting they said they took burns on this trip

  54. Cindy Luis October 2, 2015 5:21 pm

Ponce in. all 14 have played. UH up 20-9

  55. Cindy Luis October 2, 2015 5:26 pm

UH finishes off. Mitchem even got into serve

  56. vbfan4life October 2, 2015 5:26 pm

    yay…sweep

  57. tongo October 2, 2015 5:31 pm

Annie should have done her jump serve! Good to see Dave get on her – that means he wants her to improve.

  58. Ashley October 2, 2015 5:36 pm

well this was a good fast match. much needed for Hawaii. it sucks that Higgins got hurt, hopefully she will only miss today and tomorrow. i am not too worried though because Kendra has come in and really played at a high level when needed. she seems to look like she can handle the pressure. i thought Hawaii didn’t miss a beat at all, hope for a fast one tomorrow as well. other than that, was i the only one distracted by the Fullerton head coach? she looks really young, kinda like she is fresh out of college young. her clothes was actually distracting me. i am not trying to be mean, because I am not, it was just incredibly noticeable whenever they would show her. lol, okay well anyways….good win ladies, and prayers to Taylor Higgins, hoping for the absolute best from your X-ray.

  59. Big Island VB fan October 2, 2015 5:36 pm

Cal Poly won second set against Long Beach so now they are 2-1. Now that the Hawaii match is over at Fullerton, can watch full time Cal Poly. So who are the Hawaii fans rooting for in this match?

  60. jmy October 2, 2015 5:38 pm

    UCLA-UW tied 25-25 in the 1st…

    57. Preston graduated in 2008 so probably 29-ish.

  63. LanaiBoy October 2, 2015 5:59 pm

The announcers said (I think) that the Fullerton staff is the youngest in the country with a combined age of 89.

  64. menehune October 2, 2015 6:01 pm

Cal Poly over LBSU in four.

  65. Big Island VB fan October 2, 2015 6:02 pm

As a Cal Poly alumnae, I was happy to see Cal Poly beat Long Beach in four sets. Adlee van Vinden had 21 kills in this match, including the final kill which dropped untouched in the middle of the floor, campfire fashion. So there goes Long Beach’s 25th ranking and will drop out of the top 25.

  66. Cindy Luis October 2, 2015 6:05 pm

    Cal Poly over No. 24 Long Beach State 25-17, 20-25, 25-23, 25-15

    62. think I had mentioned that in my big west preview as well.

  67. islandman October 2, 2015 6:11 pm

The TV announcer said Burns was with the team. True ? Brittany Hochevor, the color commentator had high praise for the Wahine. At the start of the telecast, she said the team could go to the final four or something like that.

  68. Maverick October 2, 2015 6:25 pm

    66. I think some of her commentary was puffery to talk up the match between the #10 team and a winless team. IMHO, too early to say this is a final four team. The team needs to play consistently well for the remainder of the year, and then a lot depends on its tournament bracket. I think with a favorable bracket, this team can go to the elite 8 (barring serious injury and Higgins’ recovery). With continued maturity and improvement, I believe this is a final four team next year. But there is a lot of season left to play.

  69. Cindy Luis October 2, 2015 6:26 pm

    66. Burns did not travel

    CSUN beats UCSB 25-27, 25-14, 25-20, 25-20

  70. mo-jo October 2, 2015 6:35 pm

Kendra came in shook off some rust and didn’t miss a beat.
She brings in a new dimension. (not in serving) but in blocking on the left and
holding the middle blockers a fraction longer. Good job Kendra.
BLUF: Even with Higgins recovering, we’ll have two well season setters. At least in IMO

  71. livealoha October 2, 2015 6:40 pm

Nice seeing Brittany Hochevar. That 2000 regional final with UH and LBSU will go down as my No. 1 UH match of all time. Nice to see her around still.

She seemed to warm up to Koelsch, who in all honesty, could be a Hochevar type of player. Big setter that can terminate the ball as well. She was a fun player to watch over the years at LBSU, going from right side hitter to setter.

  72. mo-jo October 2, 2015 6:49 pm

    Cindy,
Why is my comment awaiting moderation when others submitted below mine are not?

  73. Bleachercoach October 2, 2015 6:49 pm

Feeling sad for Tayler Higgins. I pray for a quick recovery. Koelsch did a very nice job leading the team in a sudden situation. I really like this team not taking any team lightly or playing down to their opponents level these last 3 matches..Obviously, Cal Poly displayed they can play at home against Long Beach St…YES!!!

  74. Cindy Luis October 2, 2015 6:52 pm

    71. our server having problems tonight. even my posts are delayed. think you should be good now.

  75. Big Island VB fan October 2, 2015 7:03 pm

I join all the fans who pray for Tayler Higgins recovery. Hope she’ll be able to play by Friday next week at home against Long Beach which will seek to redeem itself after having lost to Cal Poly tonight. Of course, they’ll play UCSB next but even a win against them won’t feel like redemption unless they can beat Hawaii. May the rest of the players stay healthy for the Riverside match.

Hope Higgins’s injury is not too bad. Should Koelsch have an off night or get injured/sick, someone needs to come in and replace her. We have yet to play the top tier of BWC teams, so whoever the backup setter is, she will need some game time reps just in case Higgins will be out for an extended period.

  79. Ron October 2, 2015 7:40 pm

Cindy, please pass on to Tiff that he is by far the best volleyball announcer around. I prefer to relax, close my eyes and have him do all the work creating in my mind what is going on in the game. Priceless!

  80. rapid October 2, 2015 7:49 pm

44 and 48. serving before a whistle is not a problem and doesnt accost a rally. yeah sometimes you do think you hear a whistle or the whistle is actually for something else. a re-serve is called, which can be useful or hinder depending on if its a standing launch or jump serve, not necessarily respectively.

    57. i wonder how is her toss if she had spin served? remember fullerton has a low ceiling and there are basketball hoops retracted into the ceiling, both of these may be a problem depending on how high her toss.

  81. rapid October 2, 2015 7:50 pm

    32. hey maverick what brand tv you got that came with ESPN app stored on the tv?

  82. warriorfan October 2, 2015 7:52 pm

Hope Higgins injury isn’t too serious but im not worried about Koelsch being the starter even next week against Long Beach. When Higgins gets healthy enough maybe she can come in as a serving sub or set from the backrow.

It’s been a really bad week for the wahine rpi wise with Long Beach, UCLA and Florida losing. UH really needed long beach to be a top 20 team. ugh.

  83. Cindy Luis October 2, 2015 7:56 pm

    79. thanks Ron. I will do so. he works very hard at it.

  84. Maverick October 2, 2015 8:03 pm

For those interested in seeding possibilities, UH’s estimated RPI is 34 and its strength of schedule is 205th out of 334 teams, by far the worst in the top 60 RPI teams. Playing winless Fullerton is the reason for the ranking drop from 18th, if I recall correctly, after the Poly match.

  85. Maverick October 2, 2015 8:07 pm

    81. Samsung but I made a mistake. I have Apple TV and ran the app thru that. Sorry for my mistake.

  86. Maverick October 2, 2015 8:41 pm

Interestingly, if UH had lost to Fullerton, it’s RPI rank would be about 43rd.

  87. greenthumb October 2, 2015 9:02 pm

Maverick, thanks for mentioning you used Apple TV. Think I’ll try to configure ours before tomorrow afternoon. Side note, we’re (re)watching the early part of the contest from the ESPN3 archive and it is stuffed full of commercials.

  88. Cindy Luis October 2, 2015 10:11 pm

Note on former Wahine Jade Vorster. Had a career-high 19 kills and hit .571 Friday in Liberty’s 3-1 win over Gardner-Webb

  89. darkfire October 3, 2015 12:15 am

Prayers go out to Higgins. Although the team has proven its depth, our ability to take it to NCAA finals is dependent on your participation through the rest of the season. Speedy recovery and the strength of healing prayers be with you Tayler. With that said, it was nice to see the rest of the team proving they can do what everyone was hoping they could do…that is, that the Bows have a depth that must be reckonded with. We all have been hoping that Dave would put these reserve players in to prove themselves and they’ve done it. Maybe not in an illustrative fashion, but a good performance non the less.

    Good job, Jade Vorster!

    GO BOWS!

  90. LanaiBoy October 3, 2015 7:37 am

Britanny Hochevar also stated that Nikki Taylor is a strong candidate for National Player of the Year. Of course, she also said this depended on how far Hawaii goes in the postseason. If Hawaii reaches the final four Taylor would be a strong favorite.

By the way, all the Big West teams are stacking their blocks against Nikki. Of course this leads the middle and the left-side hitters being more open. As a result Hawaii middles this season have been having field days against the Big West opponents. However, the Big West opponents have had some opportunities to cheer wildly when they block Nikki, as Fullerton did a couple of times (the excessive cheering does not bother me; as the ESPN announcers said, it’s good for morale for “bottom-feeding” teams and reflect energy).

  91. Ryu October 3, 2015 9:36 am

Want to add my prayers for a speedy recovery to Tayler Higgins. I too hope she is ready for the Long Beach game. Her injury emphasizes the need for the reserves to get as much playing time as possible so that there is very little drop off when they get called upon.
I listened to game on the radio and I really enjoyed Tiff’s play by play. “Manoa Roofing Co.” I like it.

  92. H-Man October 3, 2015 10:36 am

Speedy recovery wishes to Tayler Higgins. Hoping the injury is just a minor sprain.

  93. haleiwacrossfitter October 3, 2015 10:50 am

I have not listened to Tiff. Don’t usually like radio, but my curiosity is peaked. Does he do the 1420?

  94. Cindy Luis October 3, 2015 11:09 am

    93. is is usually on 1420. Saturday’s match is on 1500-AM
