    I don’t see Ben Vaught on the new roster. Did I miss something?

  2. Cubicle1126 October 9, 2015 2:59 pm

    i can see that wade is trying to schedule for the RPI in the men’s game. but i’m wondering if he’s negotiating to bring the right teams here?

    lewis, of course, is normally a good get. (lewis does lose a lot from last year, so i don’t know how good they’ll be in 2016. but, they should still be in the upper half of the MIVA.)

    for the other teams, harvard went 13-12 this past season, and king went 15-13. let’s hope they do better in 2016, otherwise, it’s not much of an RPI boost. (harvard is an EIVA team, but the better team to invite from that conference is and always has been penn st. but i recall that the penn st coach was reluctant to come if the outrigger didn’t involve at least 2 MPSF teams.)

    hawaii also invited grand canyon for 2 matches. but gcu was a poor 14-17 last season. not great. let’s hope gcu will be more competitive in the MIVA.

    1. I’ll have to go look up what the new criteria is for what they want to do with the at-large berths and not using the coaches poll. if I have time when I get to the arena.

    9) Ohio State def. Northwestern 25-19, 25-20, 25-18
    11) Minnesota def. Maryland 25-23, 25-16, 25-19
    17) Florida def. Texas A&M 25-9, 25-23, 25-18
    18) Florida State def. Duke 25-22, 25-22, 20-25, 21-25, 15-12

    say cindy…

    yes that caught your attention right? i dont mean HEY to be used to shout at you as you notice i didnt caps it. but fair enough, i think i forget you didnt like to be addressed with ‘hey’ so i noted that and will use something else to address/ask for your attention.

    why i think title ix is a double-edged sword is well its great that it established non-discrimination yadda yadda yadda. yes its good in theory but not so much good in practice, not because they dropped some mens programs (i could give a hoot about those men, their teams are mediocre and non-exciting anyways), but i attributed it to the ncaa mandates gender equity numbers especially on the basis of football (again i dont care about the football, that is secondary to me) so in effect it benefited some schools/conferences womens programs and the rest were disproportionately given the raw deal. i think this is why some posters always bitchin about and comparing football (ON a volleyball blog!)

    summary of my rant above is: i say title ix must of hindered some women rather than its design of ‘stop discrimination at institutions of learning that received federal funding’. few (including women) benefited, everybody else were accosted. law is too weak.

    so great you explained/defined what title ix is, i was just asking your opinion on any of its consequences. you defining it sufficed for defining it.

    cindy — this was selection criteria this past season on the men’s side (from the 2015 NCAA championship manual for men’s vball):

    “The following criteria shall be employed by a governing sports committee in selecting participants for NCAA championships competition [Bylaw 31.3.3; Criteria for Selection of Participants]:

    ● Won-lost record;
    ● Strength of schedule; and
    ● Eligibility and availability of student-athletes for NCAA championships.

    In addition to Bylaw 31.3.3, the Men’s Volleyball Committee has received approval from the NCAA Division I Championships/Sports Management Cabinet to consider the following criteria in the selection of at-large teams for the volleyball championship (not necessarily in priority order):

    Primary Criteria
    ● Rating Percentage Index (25% the institution’s winning percentage; 50% opponents’ success; 25% opponents’ strength of schedule);
    ● Results of the RPI
    ● Head-to-head competition;
    ● Results versus nonconference opponents;
    ● Home and away results;
    ● Results versus common opponents; and
    ● Results versus teams already qualified and other teams under consideration.”

    cindy sorry to ask something i think you already answered but what is ‘half’ (0.5) a scholarship? is it really the student pays half price for tuition?

    to poster 28 yesterday. i had to even ask cindy recently what the volleytalk link was so no im not whoever that character is and i dont badmouth anybody, let alone cindy. i saw the volleytalk blog once and left. didnt bother to read any of it. all i saw was rubbish and bs.

    I think Harvard might surprise PSU in the EIVA this year, PSU lost it’s all everything player to the us national team and they didn’t really get any big time recruit to replace him.

    Lewis should still be one of the favorites to win the MIVA. No idea about King, never even heard of them before.

    Shame no PSU though, Was hoping they would come in for a two game series.

    I am wondering if Nainoa Frank is really a junior or is that an error?

  11. seataone October 9, 2015 6:20 pm

    rapid….

    for certain sports (baseball, men’s volleyball, tennis(?), beach volleyball, and others), the team is allowed to split up the number of scholarships they have. Men’s vb has 4.5 scholarships that they can allocate to any number of athletes.

    sports like football, mens/womens basketball, women’s volleyball, any athlete that gets a scholarship (even half a scholarship) is counted as one. For example, women’s volleyball is allowed to have 12 scholarships. Some colleges may only fund 10 scholarships. That college can split the 10 scholarships among 12 athletes.

    Is Nainoa related to Kealii?

  14. vballfreak808 October 9, 2015 6:28 pm

    9. Frank is currently in his third year of college so it is not. Technically he could be a sophomore and treat one of his years like a redshirt. But maybe he wants to move on after his fourth year.

    Thanks for getting to things. was talking to Gimmillaro. The Beach is practicing until 8 p.m. in Gym 1.
    BTW, expecting Mitchem to start over Maglio. She rolled an ankle yesterday and this may be precautionary.

    7. rapid/wildcard, you can’t blame me for thinking you are the brosolee poster on Volleytalk because at about the same time he was claiming on VT that Cindy closed down the blog, you posted this:
    “knock knock nobody here?” on http://hawaiiwarriorworld.com/volleyshots/tues-top-25-scores/

    And I just findit funny that someone who “didn’t bother to read any of it [VT],” you somehow deduced that everything was “rubbish and BS.”

    And for someone who visited VT once and left, I find it funny that you keep mentioning it in your posts. Just recently:
    http://hawaiiwarriorworld.com/volleyshots/sunday-top-25-scores-florida-loses-again/
    “to all volleytalkers especially the bashers of TMO. yes! we want emily hartong back!”

    http://hawaiiwarriorworld.com/volleyshots/thursday-checkin-4/
    “and add insult to injury to any volleytalker, poster of this blog, volleyball ‘fan’ or of volleyball, who thinks xyz player should play at positions xyz other than shojis status quo especially ripping on shar manuolevao wanting to replace her.”

  17. warriorfan October 9, 2015 6:48 pm

    I’m pretty sure Hawaii led the nation in blocking during one of the Bown years, probably during Carey’s freshmen year, just a comment to Tsuji.

  18. Cindy Luis October 9, 2015 6:51 pm

    15. not sure. they might have but don’t think they ended the season as No. 1.

  19. Cindy Luis October 9, 2015 6:52 pm

    BTW, Higgins is not in warmups other than to monitor the ball carts. Ah Mow Santos is the second setter.
