Sorry I must be dense but what does “good news is that they’re looking at 4:30 p.m. starts for some of the double headers” mean?
That is good news because it means wahine matches in the three pre season tournaments will most likely start on time for a change.
Not excited about idaho, eastern washington and bakersfield at all.
2. Got it, thanks.
2. so you’ve said when I mentioned them previously
and, as mentioned numerous times, he gets who he can get.
still a little surprised Deitre coming back out so soon with the Aztecs.
Does anyone know when the last time it was when UCLA didn’t come down for a pre season tournament?
1988 was the first year that Hawaii had a preseason tournament. UCLA has been coming out every year since then. I still remember that 4th game….15-0 score they put the smack down that year on us. Oh..and Daiva Tomkus. 🙂
and elaine youngs as a freshman…..wow, talk about bringing back memories
5. UCLA has come out to play Hawaii every year since 1976, early on it was 2 or 3 matches. then as HCF says 1988 was the first year of the UH tournament.
When UCLA dropped its NIVT after 86, it created a void which ended up being filled by the Wahine tournament in 88.
6. that 15-0 game was pretty impressive by the Bruins. Can you say bad rotation?
HAL started in Maui UH played Pepperdine then moved over to the Blaisdell.
But Wahine ended up reaching the final four that year and finished second to Texas.
5. but if you are discussing the men, UCLA has been in 14 of the Outrigger tourneys, did not play in it in 03, 04, 05, 07, 09, 10.
Thanks HCF and Cindy! Was talking about the womans because Ive always wondered if they were regular because the girls always seem to know Hawaii Pono’i.
Im excited about this schedule. Its not top heavy like some past tournaments, and doesn’t have big names, but very solid RPI teams in American, Florida, UCLA, Oregon State and Wichita State. Those are all legit tournament teams. IF the can go undefeated until tournament play, I think they have a legit shot at getting a seed.
Why is this WarriorFan person such a negative nancy? Always complaining.
WtF -WF contributes a great deal of new information and insight to this blog. His expressed concerns does not mean he doesn’t care. I think that this blog gives us a chance to let off steam regarding the mens and woman’s teams in a healthy and constructive manner. I enjoy WF’s perspective.
Dunno about “healthy and constructive” for players. Pretty negative and quick to dump on those who might be having a down night – I don’t think that is constructive at all, and certainly not healthy for players who are also young people doing their best.
Karmady, how nice of you to make an appearance. You have been MIA, since coach WADE is having such a great season. probable MPSF coach of the year.
Coach Wade has been drop dead sensational this year. Every problem he has encountered to date he came up with a “fix”. Last week on the road his team dropped two to the Bruins. He changed the setter and presto, Hawaii wins 3-2…now that is something a veteran Coach like Dave Shoji should take notice…
The mens game is nothing like the womens game. Even Wade, Shoji, hall will admit that. Ill be the first to admit daves stubbornness, but subbing out a setter on the womans side isn’t as easy as the mens side.
You think if Lauren carlini struggles, wisconin will win with their second string setter? Doubt it. Same for stanford and mainly any other team. I do agree dave needs to stop his favoritism if a player is struggling, but dave knows what he’s doing.
. 15 I think Last year Wade should have tried Jennings more, so he does have favorites as well, but this year he is proving the doubters wrong( Karmady and me included)
Okay the person on volleytalk who said an UCI player was coming is now saying Maddie Haggerty is? I think we have been duped!
16. I like that are appreciating the mens game more this year. Hope you now realize it is as exciting as the women’s game, especially when you have players like Kanetake and Siki who can play great in the backrow.
I still love the womens game more, just because Its what I grew up with, but I’ve always liked the mens side. Just didn’t like how the struggled. But this year, its a new team and wade is just coaching a brilliant game.
18. Perhaps you’ve been duped by VT.
It is not a UCI transfer.
New player will have four years to compete.
15. The Warriors are have a great season. Doesn’t take anything away from what Shoji has done for 40 years.
20. I also think Milan Zarkovic has been a huge difference.
21. Could be Haggerty then. Or maybe a foreign player.
