Cindy, that was a heartwarming story on the Shared dream of Gianna and Kendra in today’s staradvertiser. (It brought tears to my eyes)

Dave just tweeted Starting 2nd week of double days this am, gotta form depth chart this week and find a lineup! All positions open!

I’m not believing that “all positions open” stuff how about you guys ?

  6. haka August 18, 2014 12:47 pm

LC, no one cares what you believe…only care about the fluff.

  7. haka August 18, 2014 12:49 pm

    Enjoyed the article Cindy. Thanks.

  8. LC August 18, 2014 12:52 pm

And I don’t care about what you think. Dave says the same stuff every year. Now how many of you actually think the middle positions are open, go ahead raise your hands .

  9. Ron August 18, 2014 1:17 pm

LC You are probably right in less they decide to try Magill as an OH because one of the big freshman is doing so well in the middle. That is what I would do if Nikki cant play this year.Magill has the hand speed necessary to play anywhere up front. PS I dont think this will really happen.

no doubt there are some positions that are more solidified than others. sports is just one of those things where it’s easy to speak in cliches. while every position is technically thrown open every year, it’s also a given that you speak in those cliches, to motivate the team. let a freshman mb, for instance, believe they have the chance. why not fuel some healthy competition …

  11. Cindy Luis August 18, 2014 4:38 pm

Shoji said he’d have a depth chart friday

  12. Cindy Luis August 18, 2014 4:40 pm

Let’s play nice gang At practice Team has depth so can see why he’d say all were open Although I would think Adolpho is pretty much a lock

  13. Cindy Luis August 18, 2014 4:43 pm

Magill has seen no time at OH She and Adolpho the top two Middles

  14. Cindy Luis August 18, 2014 4:50 pm

Sorry LC didn’t mean to delete your comment about you saying the feature being fluff Was on my iPhone and still getting used to the new blog format. Still it is a feature. Not meant to be a news story

8 agree the middles are most likely set in stone this year – crossing fingers no one gets injured

OH 1 is Nikki Taylor as soon as she is healthy.

I also like the fact that there is two strong setters! and one being a very strong blocking setter ! 🙂

Shoji always says the starting jobs are open, unless his returnees are seniors and are named Kim Willoughby, Lily Kahumoku, Maja Gustin, Lauren Duggins and Melissa Villaroman.

It’s quite possible one or two freshmen will emerge as the season progresses and earn a spot in the starting lineup, but I think it’s safe to say that at least by opening night, we’ll see Adolpho and Magill in the middle, Olevao on the left and likely Higgins at setter. And we all know Nikki Taylor will start once she’s cleared to play.

Interesting battle at libero with steady passer Mendoza and scholarship player Kahakai. Koelsch will play regardless of starting status, Passi likely starts on the right, and it’s pretty given that if Long still can’t cut it in the front row, Shoji will give her a role as DS, even if she keeps serving into the net and the actual DS behind her can do a better job.

  17. Cindy Luis August 19, 2014 11:56 am

    16. don’t know about your opening night lineup. Do think Koelsch will play, probably Passi on the right although those positions, as repeatedly stated are not true positions since LS hit right once, RS hit left once.
Don’t think it matters that Mendoza is not on scholarship and Kahakai is. Both battling hard and best player will be on the court.
