Day II, Practice 11 minor injury and a switch

Team continues to work on skills and technique, breaking into small groups by position. At one point, one court had Higgins working with the OHs, two reps each, hitting line and quickly resetting to hit cross court. Other court had Koelsch working with the middles on quicks and slides. Third court with DSs and liberos.

Greeley rolled her left ankle when getting tangled in the back row with another player. Didn’t catch who. She spent maybe the last 15 minutes getting attended to and iced but it didn’t look serious and she eventually left practice wearing both shoes.

Someone asked yesterday about redshirts. Shoji said he had no plans to redshirt anyone.
Huff is training to move from middle to outside to shore up the depth which took a hit with Taylor being out and Manu-Olevao missing 3 Sunday matches. He said they only needed 3 middles but wanted another OH.

Players getting plenty of time to recharge. Practice was over at 8-ish. They’re back in the gym at 4:15.

Megan Huff played some RS, so making her train at outside this early will payoff with the OH ranks hobbled somewhat. With Huff, Greeley and Taylor all at 6’3″+, this is the first time I can recall having that much height with the outside hitters. Also I can see why Shoji is saying that no one is in line for a redshirt possibility.

Moving Huff to the Outside may eventually be a very good move for her. She is quite athletic, being a very, very good basketball player. But quite raw when it comes to volleyball. Remember she chose Hawaii cause she wanted to learn how to play volleyball at a very high level.

Huff has played the OH position in high school and club and I expected her to play OH in college when she committed. Would prefer she redshirt but competition and height at the outside is needed.

If any player was going to redshirt, it would have been Megan Huff, cause she is so raw when it comes to volleyball. Even she has admitted that she has a lot to learn when it comes to volleyball. But with what has occurred with Nikki Taylor, I do not see that happening.

Cindy, did Greeley practice in the evening session? How does Olevao look? I presume she was at both practice sessions today.

WW, Huff came in as a middle. She has played some OH so if anyone was going to move to another position, would be her. She is still taking reps as a middle but will also take some on the outside.
