Day 2, Practice 2
Sorry, got a little distracted. They didn’t start until 330.
Pretty much the same drills as yesterday. serve and pass, peppering within position groups.
Just noticed Manu-Olevao not here. Didn’t have time to ask before they went on the court. Could be a church commitment. Will find out later.
Shoji again got in the mix, a little platform work with a couple of players and then some digging drills with them.

Cindy, did Ann send you any kind of message, concerning Olevao, when they held morning practice?
Cindy, you still at practice?
Nope, Ann didn’t message me but it was confirmed that she is at church
Still here. got knocked offline for a bit
Team began a mini scrimmage, lot of players switching in and out, including the 3 setters.
One unit that stayed together for a bit was Hartong LS, Vorster MB, Goodman RS, Uiato, DS-Ls in and out. Kastl middle back.
Kastl then moved to LS with Hartong hitting 3-meter and Adolpho switched with Vorster.
They are giving everyone a look. With Manu-Olevao out, Passi playing more than yesterday. She definitely hits a heavy ball.
Taylor hitting out of the back row as well on the other team
Kyra G was in to set and connected with her sister on the RS for some plays. Good connection there as you might expect.
Higgins definitely quick to the ball, nice hands, sets a beautiful ball cross court.
Nikki Taylor is not only tall like Jade, but a big powerful player. Something that the Wahine hasn’t had in a while. Hopefully she is all that was advertised and adapts to top level D1 speed of the game. They will need her type to compete with the taller more physical teams of the BCS esp.
Hadn’t seen Higgins play much in high school. Do like her court presence. She and Tuaniga have connected nicely on a couple of slides. Tuaniga moving the best i’ve seen in quite a while. Practice is very spirited and loud.
Had a nice chat with former UCI coach Charlie Brande who is visiting for a month. And Kevin Wong has dropped by. Someone asked yesterday if he was going to be doing TV. Asked him and he said he’s had no contact with the OC guys and that he has a few things he’s working on so was very busy, including the youth sand event that is part of the Duke’s OceanFest starting next week. Couple of other volleyball things going on with him that I’ll report on later in the week.
Rich Sheriff came by too. Too funny since Shoji parked in Sheriff’s spot. Rich walked in and tells Shoji said, But you’re not supposed to be here. Rich did not make him move the car. Rich has dropped about 30 pounds on a juice diet. He looks happy and healthy.
Going to church is good, but Manu-Olevao needs to understand she does not have a starting position locked up. For every missed practice she has, someone else is out there practicing and making more strides to gain a starting position then she is. Olevao is no Hartong. Hartong can afford to miss a practice or two, and not miss a beat, Olevao cannot.
Steve/Laura, please, this is not your business. She obviously has an agreement with the coaching staff. This is none of your concern
5. Taylor has a lot of power. Her right ankle is taped but believe it is not a new injury.
Team done and out stretching.
9. Cindy, yes that’s an injury she had and an operation done when she sat out her junior HS year. On an OC16 telecast of a hs match with Dash and Kevin commentating she was with her mom and they showed her operated scared ankle, ugh! Just a caution wrap I hope.
Cindy, all I am saying is, I thought, according to Hartong, this team is tight, and focused. I do not call missing practice, just to attend church, as a team that is tight and focused. I am talking about players like Kelly Majam, who will not let anything stop her from being with her teammates. Those are the kind of players that your teammates can count on to have your back. I can see this leading to team troubles down the road. By allowing this to happen, the coaching staff now has to allow any other player to miss practice for some reason or another.
dedicatedfan, stfu.
its people like you that make this blog so difficult to read sometimes.
Shoji said he was fairly happy with today’s effort. A little ragged but not bad. They went into scrimmaging fairly quickly this afternoon. That is always a good sign. Likes how his younger players are progressing.
Think that was about it. Be back on later. Aloha for now.
po’okela, I am quite sure there are other players, on the team, that are strong church followers, but do they miss practice to attend church, think about it.
I vote for Cindy to ban DF/Steve/Laura now before the season starts. It has only been day 2 of practice and he/she/it is already starting to rag on players. Looks like Tai is the target this year.
Cindy, if you don’t ban him, at least charge him per question he asks about practice and for every stupid comment he makes about a player or coach this year. I think we are all over it already…..and we only just begun the season. geez.
A power ranking poll by thenetsetblog.com on Sundays before AVCA Monday poll.

^ I think UH is better than Michigan, Nebraska and Washington.
14. You don’t know the details of Tai’s presence in church this afternoon. It could be a special occasion, like being a main godparent to a christening. Knowing nothing I would keep this no clue thought to yourself.
15. haleiwacrossfitter, agree with everything you said. He/she/they are obviously forgot to take their meds.
Pictures from Saturday’s practice is up on the Boosters Club Site. Click on Fall practice on the left column.
Jane does not miss a practice and get suspended, Tai is allowed to miss a practice, you call that fair.
Steve/Laura/DF can not help himself. His limited social maturity does not allow him to look at the “big picture” so he focuses one small aspect to attack. He is basically stuck with a “terrible two” personality. That is why he was banned from another blog. His inability to play well with others has been well documented. Cindy, thanks for the updates, this will be another exciting year.
AVCA published their 2013 Team Previews but guess who didn’t submit a preview, once again.
I’m of the opinion that some people who work for UH athletics are just plain lazy and I’m not alone in that thought I hear it a lot.
“And so it begins” is right…I agree with Po’okela on both statements. Last season I ended up giving up even coming here for stretches because of the outrageous comments being made by certain posters.
I also agree with Haleiwacrossfitter to ban DF/Steve/Laura/Mary/Merna from the start. I have a feeling with him/her/herm gone this blog will have a lot healthier discussions and be way more tolerable than last season.
Addition by subtraction.
As I got older, to be polite, I just pretended not to hear offensive comments made by idiots. There is no sense responding or even trying to reason with some people. For this blog, I just don’t bother to read comments after the name. Cindy is only being polite when she patiently reads and answers inane babbling buffoons because she is a lady. Others need not respond to them or even me, heck, I’m just an ancient fan someone you’d hopefully be nice to if we were in line, together rather than push out of your way. Go Wahine! And I think church/faith is a good thing in balancing out your life, Tai, you go girl!
I vote Ban. He’s simply disturbed and dominates the threads which makes reading this blog so difficult. Obviously those who post in response to his rude and ignorant comments only incite him even more as he probably doesn’t get any interaction in daily face to face encounters.
7-11-14-21. DF, you do not know the circumstances. Nor do I, other than she wasn’t at practice because of a church commitment.
It was the second day of preseason practice.
It was her choice to attend church and the coaches were not going to go against someone’s religious convictions. They would have preferred her to be at practice but, again, weren’t going to tell her no.
Jane’s suspension was for breaking team rules. Manu-Olevao has done nothing other than attend church.
Yes, I am trying to be polite.
Let’s move on and let’s all be civil.
Some of you may know already the poll’s out UH #11.
Pre-season poll is out

thanks. see new thread

Stereotype of State Workers. LOL
