Congrats to Averill, MPSF POY; Wahine asst. update
Application deadline was last Friday. Was told the decision could be made as early as Wednesday.
As for Averill, No real surprise, given his night Saturday.
From the MPSF
University of Hawai’i men’s volleyball senior middle blocker Taylor Averill was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation/Molten Player of the Week for Jan. 5-11 after leading the Rainbow Warriors to a season-opening three-set win (25-19, 25-14, 25-23) over Stevens Institute of Technology last Saturday.
The All-American and two-time All-MPSF honoree netted a team-high 13 kills, boasting a .619 hitting percentage without a single error. Averill also led the team with five blocks, and produced one of UH’s three service aces for the night, all to earn a first week conference-best 17 points. It is Averill’s first career weekly award.
The No. 10 Rainbow Warriors continue a six-game home-stand Jan. 8-9, 11 as they host the 21st Outrigger Resorts Invitational at the Stan Sheriff Center. The tournament will consist of five matches featuring UH, Penn State, Ohio State and UC Irvine.
Have any of the candidates names been made public?
5 matches? It’s not a round robin anymore?
Mentioned here a few weeks ago that the two applicants I knew of were Kevin Wong and Jeff Hall.
Someone else mentioned Brad Kellar. Had heard he was in contention for another job.
2. yes, odd tournament format. doubleheaders Thursday-Firday, single match Sunday.
Ohio State and Penn State don’t play each other. might be because they couldn’t stay for Sunday match. I know Penn State very strict on how many class days can be missed.
Men’s basketball on Saturday.
