Congrats to Averill, all-district academic honors
sorry for the delay. getting a few stories out of the way before the trip
from UH:
Senior Taylor Averill earmed CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District VIII first-team honors It is Averill’s first CoSIDA academic award and the program’s fifth all-district.
The Capital One Division Academic All-District At-Large Teams recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
A two-year AVCA All-American First-Team middle-blocker, Averill afinished second in the nation in hitting percentage with .488 (329-59-553) and fifth in blocks per set (1.32 B/S). The ‘Bows took second in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation regular-season with an 18-4 record, their highest finish and most conference wins since 2006, making it to the MPSF Semifinals for the first time in five years.
Averill is the only student-athlete representing UH in Academic All-District and now qualifies to be considered for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, which will be announced June 11. He is set to graduate Saturday with a degree in Sociology.
Congrats to the Warriors on a successful season! This may be one of those rare years where the mens team did better than the womens! Hopefully next year, the team will do just as well, if not better. Same setter and Libero, so as long as the outside hitters can pass well next year, all they’ll need is a strong block, and I believe they’ll be ok.
They should still be good next year. Just not sure how good. The big question mark next year is the middles.
Cindy, pardon me for commenting here since the Wahine thread’s comment section has been closed. Does Ponce and Guinasso’s exclusion from the trip mean they are not returning next year? You mentioned that it was their choice not to go, but I wonder if this means they are “walking off”?
3. No, they will be back. They weren’t excluded. All the walk-ons and departing seniors invited to go. Those two couldn’t. They’ve both been at practice this week.
Haven’t spoken to Mendoza. Might have been a conflict with graduation Saturday.
Both Adolpho and Long will be in school next year in master’s programs, Adolpho on basketball scholarship. Long said she’ll walk when she gets her MA. Said there was no choice when it came to walking or going on this trip.
2. had a discussion with Milan Z. yesterday about how the team will be. He really likes what they have returning and very happy with the redshirts and the recruiting class, which has been ranked No. 1 in some publications.
