Assistant Meyer leaving SandBows for Pepperdine
UH sand assistant Michelle Meyer is leaving to become the Director of Volleyball Operations for Pepperdine’s indoor team, joining Scott Wong’s staff.
UH should be posting the part-time job this week, perhaps as early as Tuesday.
Hall said it is a big loss for the program but wished her well. Said the DOVO was a full-time job as opposed to the UH part-time job.
It’s a casual hire so the posting only needs to be advertised for a few days. He said it is a national search but that he knows there are also a number of qualified coaches locally. Just depends on who applies.
Also Nikki Taylor, who sprained an ankle slightly last Friday, may be cleared to practice as early as Thurday. She told Hall she’d be ready by then but he said he may want her to rest it longer.
Nikki Taylor should make up her mind to play either sand or indoor volleyball as she is always getting hurt and jeopardizes both programs. Last season it took a while before her shoulder mended and the indoor wahines suffered during her injury and now the sand bows might suffer due to her ankle injury and what’s not to say she might incur another injury hurting the indoor wahine program. Enough is enough and she should commit to one or the another. Shoji should also understand the value she is to the indoor program which is and should be her priority and Shoji should stop being a nice guy and make a decision on her future.
Nikki should do what Nikki wants to do. End of discussion!
The sand season has actually improved her all around game tremendously and she did not get hurt playing sand last season, Injuries happen, get over it.
Unfortunately Nikki is a player that is a bit injury prone. Luckily nothing serious so far at UH (like she had in high school)
I wonder if Meyer leaving is the reason for no Benedicte Maaseide.
Meyer was the coach that took the recruiting trip to sweden last summer.
So now what sand bows will transfer out?
.4 None of the players transferred out after the head coach left, not sure why they would leave two weeks before the season starts, because of an assistant leaving.
Don’t blame her for going if she was only part time here. Best of luck to her.
I’ve known of Nikki Taylor since she was about 12/13 and like WF stated she has always been injury prone. She’s not the most agile person. Hopefully she decideds against playing in co-ed tournaments this summer to avoid yet another injury.
SandBows received a commitment a few days ago. Name is
Chloe but not sure of a last name. Believe she is a 2016 recruit.

Found her name. Chloe Luyties from La Jolla HS. 5’10” recruit for 2016.
Nikki’s injury was a hyper-extended elbow. And yes, I think she doesn’t allow her body enough time to rest, so she becomes injury prone. Unlike Megan Huff, her participation in basketball involves different muscles. But I understand why Nikki participates in sand. She said sand allows her to improve her indoor game as she is exposed to different aspects of the game when there are only two players.
7 & 8. Related to Ricci? Daughter?
2. thank you. totally agree. it’s her decision to play both and sand has improved her overall game. As one coach said, If that is what sand can do for a player, we need to add a program.
4. not sure why you think anyone transfers out because an assistant leaves.
11. yes, Ricci’s daughter. He is the women’s coach at UCSD.
3. If Maaseide was coming, and believe she was a ’15 recruit, she would have been here by now. Just look at the timeline. Meyer offered the job a week ago.
7. Taylor’s injury occurred during open gym. don’t believe it was any sort of coed tournament. And believe it initially came when blocking Passi.
Everyone’s gun shy..not a single ventured guess into pairs for sand (on ANY blog). What’s up?!

their new coach needs to decide on Schreiber. she plays ls and rs. she’s played indoors on the opp.
my guess:
Teigs – Schreiber
Taylor – Spieler
Brown – Rooks
Good luck to Michelle. I found her very pleasant to talk to and had a feeling this move was coming.
And no Michelle is not leaving because of no BM.
The 2016 recruiting class for the beach team looks really good, with Luyties and Julia Chizankos Emma Smith and Morgan Martin. ( At least I hope Martin and Chizankos are still committed with Wong and Meyer gone)
When are those people going to make football like comments on the exodus? Is there a writing on the wall? Wong hired someone from Hawaii and not from Utah?
15.Venture away. Hall was still having competition through this week.
But I should know more later today after afternoon practice
18. why should there be football-like comments here? the situation completely different.
There is no “exodus.” Let’s look at the facts and not some perceived writing on the wall.
Wong, like Sealy, and Wade etc., left to take a head coach job.
Meyer left a PART-TIME job in a sport that is a year away from NCAA status in an expensive place to live to take a FULL-TIME job with an established indoor program
She is not from Hawaii. She is from California and will be closer to her family. At least relatively closer considering the distance from Hawaii to Malibu and Malibu to other parts of California.
Not like Wong has worked at Utah and has that connection.
And as for football coaches leaving, most are taking higher-profile jobs for a lot more money in places that cost a lot less to live.
17. Wong and Meyer will be with Pepperdine indoor. Given the success of the Waves sand program, I’m sure Nina has her recruiting done as well for 2016.
Don’t know if the NLIs are signed. Will ask Hall today
15. thought I mentioned before that Tiegs likely pairs with Taylor. But that may change depending on Taylor’s ankle.
From what I was told, Schreiber’s passing wasn’t as good as Taylor’s so not sure who’ll she’ll be with.
I still think that Tiegs and Taylor is still 50/50 ‘coz of a tried and tested Spieler and Taylor tandem from last year. I really think one of them will be the partner of Taylor and whoever is not will be with Schierber.
just passing along what Hall said last week about Taylor and Tiegs. think it’s more than 50-50 but, as mentioned earlier, some will depend on how Taylor’s ankle is. and, as stated, doesn’t appear that Schrieber will be with Tiegs.
I like
1.Taylor and Tiegs, UH’s best chance at winning it all in pairs.
2.Spieler and Brown, both experienced and have played before in tournaments
3. Guinasso and Schrieber , young and lots of potential, could see them paired together for four years.
4. Chow and Rooks
5. Tucker and Boyan
Id put the cousins above Tucker and Boyan
26.who are the cousins?
Who are the cousins?
Maybe some day we will see some of these coaches back at UH just like what Wade did.
Well we are all a little over a week away to see who’s gonna be with who. So excited for it!
27 I think his talking about the freshmen Schucht and Huddleston
the man is a conservative. to split up Taylor and Spieler and then to have to answer for mistakes is not going to happen.
they’re going to serve the German and not Teigs most of the time. the ball control is most needed in the “setter” on the second ball.

there are other cases when taylor is a primary blocker and spieler is a primary defender.
look/lock it up! :p

new thread up on sand.
