COMMENTS

  1. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 7:11 pm

Hartong’s serve creating some havoc with UA serve-receive. Stepout by Adolpho has UH up 5-1. TO UA.

  2. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 7:22 pm

ace by Uiato, a flying 3-meter attack by Hartong 4 kills) has UH up 15-11

  3. setaone September 14, 2013 7:24 pm

I’m still not sold on Kawamura as a serving specialist. Too many missed serves.

  4. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 7:25 pm

UH in a bit of a bad rotation. Arizona has scored 4 to tie at 15. TO UH.

  5. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 7:26 pm

Wildcats already with a 5.5-1 edge in blocks.

  6. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 7:29 pm

Taylor with 2 kills from the left. She’s going to have to have solid night IMHO. Hartong will need some help. Harting with 2 kills, now 6. UH up 19-16

  7. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 7:31 pm

Vorster on the slide. UH up 21-17

  8. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 7:35 pm

Adolpho with the kill, her fifth, UH works hard to win 25-20.

  9. RedZone September 14, 2013 7:37 pm

Give set one to Hartong. She made the key points.

  10. Beauston September 14, 2013 7:37 pm

    Wahine is getting outblock 6-1

  11. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 7:39 pm

Yes, UH oublocked by 5 and wins by 5

  12. RedZone September 14, 2013 7:39 pm

I really like that right side back row attack by Hartong. Really threw off Arizona. No blockers up on that one.

  13. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 7:42 pm

UH hit .325, UA 257. UH 16-13 in digs, Longo with 5.
    Vorster 2-1-3, Manu Olevao 2-1-7, Hartong 7-2-14, Adolpho 5-1-8, Talro 2-0-6. UH 1 ace, 2 SEs. UA 0 aces, 2 SEs.

  14. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 7:45 pm

Kill by Manu-Olevao has UH pu 6-3. TO UA.

  15. Beauston September 14, 2013 7:45 pm

11hardly. could have gone either way so kudos to the Wahine for fighting it out. Now those soft shots are driving me crazy. Hope the girls stay patient.

  16. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 7:47 pm

Manu-Olevao from the right, it’s 9-4. TO UA

  17. Vbfan September 14, 2013 7:47 pm

    Rubio sure takes timeouts early

  18. Beauston September 14, 2013 7:50 pm

Jim Leahey is becoming more confusing as each weekend past. Not a fan of watching a game muted.

  19. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 7:51 pm

    18. there’s always radio 1420-AM, espn1420am.com.
Adolpho with the solo. it’s 13-7

  20. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 7:53 pm

Harris, 6-8 freshman is in. She looks so much like her mom Jeannie Wade-Harris, former Wahine basketball player. Dad was Rogue, Played for UH as well. in the 80s.

  21. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 7:57 pm

Agree, Rubio calls his TOs very early. Manu-Olevao with the ace, it’s 18-13. then nets her next serve. 18-14

  22. Beauston September 14, 2013 7:59 pm

    Dingfest!!!!

  23. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 8:00 pm

    11. not sure what you mean by hardly. They gave away 5 points on blocks but still win by 5.

  24. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 8:01 pm

Goodman in, purely blocking for Uiato. UH serving 24-16.

  25. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 8:02 pm

Hartong with her 11th. UH wins 25-17

  26. Beauston September 14, 2013 8:05 pm

23 Wahine did not win that set decisively. they hung tough. if it wasnt for UA’s Service error along with Hartong’s critical kills towards the end of set 1, Arizona could have pass them. Wahine was getting roofed.

  27. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 8:06 pm

    3. as for Kawamura,
Has served six times, 1 SE.

  28. RedZone September 14, 2013 8:08 pm

Give credit to Dave for sticking with Kawamura. Her serves will pay off later. I like how the wahine are serving tough.

  29. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 8:09 pm

UH hit 290 in Set 2, UA 139. UH outblocked UA 5-1.5. Adolph 2 solo, 2 BA
both teams at 27 digs, Longo 7, Manu-Olevao and Uiato with 5
Kingdon 12 kills for UA, not getting a lot of help. Torres next with 4.
    Hartong 11-3-27, Manu-Olevao 6-2-16, Adolpho 6-2-12, Vorster 3-1-4, Taylor 4-0-10.
UH 3 aces, 3 Ses. UA 0 aces, 5 SEs.

  30. RedZone September 14, 2013 8:11 pm

Before the match I was really worried about Arizona’s block but you got like how UH is hitting right now. I also don’t see 90 digs happening tonight.

  31. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 8:12 pm

    26. merely pointing out that yes they were outblocked 6-1 (5 points) and still won by 5 points. never said anything about decisively.
Both teams had 2 Service errors so that’s a wash.

  32. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 8:13 pm

No surprise, UH staying with Vorster for Set 3 and the rest of the same lineup. Don’t think they want to let UA hang around. Wildcats are playing well. UH just better when it counts.

  33. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 8:21 pm

Uiato recognizing something on UH’s rightside. 2 kills by Taylor, Manu-Olevao on the D, Adolpho on the slide. UH led briefly 9-8. UA 3 quick points. it’s 11-9 UA. TO UH.

  34. Beauston September 14, 2013 8:22 pm

    Wow overpass that backfired.

  35. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 8:27 pm

Snuka’s back dump goes wide. UH up 15-14. TO UA.

  36. Beauston September 14, 2013 8:28 pm

    Snuka’s 2nd failed dump shot

  37. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 8:30 pm

    36. True but Snuka also has 2 successful ones.

  38. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 8:32 pm

Hartong with her 13th, this on an overpass. it’s 18-16. TO UA.

  39. RedZone September 14, 2013 8:33 pm

Time to turn it up and close it out.

  40. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 8:36 pm

Double sub briefly Higgins and Goodman. Uiato comes back in. Hartong with the kill UH up 20-19. Higgins back in.

  41. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 8:36 pm

Goodman with the service overpass (Hartong serving) UH up 21-19

  42. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 8:38 pm

Longo aces. iti’s 21-21. Adlopho misses on the steop. UA up 22-21. TO UH.

  43. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 8:42 pm

Arizona wins 25-22. on to Set 4.

  44. RedZone September 14, 2013 8:42 pm

    Passing went kaput.

  45. setaone September 14, 2013 8:45 pm

When I said about Kawamura I meant over the course of the young season.

  46. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 8:48 pm

UH hit 306, UA 419. UH outblocked 3-0. that was your 3-point difference.
UH with 42 digs, Longo with 11
to interrupt. yes, the linesman blew that on. UH up 4-2

  47. Beauston September 14, 2013 8:50 pm

    44 as well as blocking.

  48. WaWa September 14, 2013 8:51 pm

I get nervous every time Tai is about to take a swing at an out-of-system set.

  49. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 8:51 pm

    UH up 5-2. TO UA.
to continue from Set 3, Wildcats 2 aces 4 SEs. UH 1 ace, 2 SEs.
    Hartong 15-6-37, Tai Manu-Olevao 10-3-24, Adolpho 8-3-1. Taylor 8-0-17.

  50. RedZone September 14, 2013 8:51 pm

2nd time Wayne over-ruled that guy.

  51. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 8:52 pm

Vorster with a kill. UH up 8-3. TO Arizona.

  52. Beauston September 14, 2013 8:56 pm

Common for Adolpho ‘s 10th kill

  53. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 8:56 pm

    60. and got it right.

  54. Beauston September 14, 2013 8:56 pm

    Ahhh and she got it!

  55. Beauston September 14, 2013 8:57 pm

Middles putting up set 4 for the bows

  56. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 9:00 pm

    45. Coming into the match, Kawamura has 4 aces, 12 SEs, the most errors of any wahine.

  57. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 9:01 pm

Snuka taps it back off the block. her third kill. Torres with a kill. Arizona closes to 15-12. TO UH.

  58. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 9:06 pm

Adolpho with her 12th kill. UH has pulled away to 19-13

  59. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 9:13 pm

hmmmm. UH had a comfortable lead 22-15. Now 23-20. TO UH. Harris making a big difference at the net at 6-8.

  60. WaWa September 14, 2013 9:14 pm

Weak play at the net by Vorster, volleying the ball back over.

  61. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 9:15 pm

UH served twice for match point. Hartong blocked twice. Tuaniga in at 24-22

  62. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 9:16 pm

Drives me nuts. Hartong blocked again 24-23.

  63. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 9:17 pm

but not a fourth time, Hartong with her 21st ends it. 25-23

  64. jmy September 14, 2013 9:17 pm

Terrible blocking stat by UH…They really need to start blocking better…

  65. Beauston September 14, 2013 9:20 pm

That did not make sense to me but oh well it worked.
It will be interesting with Croson on the line up.

  66. RedZone September 14, 2013 9:20 pm

Dave said he told Mita to go to Hartong at the end. I was going nuts too.

  67. RedZone September 14, 2013 9:22 pm

    Tuaniga was open.

  68. Beauston September 14, 2013 9:22 pm

    64 thanks to Arizona’s 15.5 blocks, Olevao and Hartong’s hit% are below .200

  69. Warriorfan September 14, 2013 9:27 pm

Mita ( and dave) need to be less predictable, and Emily really needs to hit smarter ( she did not this match)

  70. Beauston September 14, 2013 9:30 pm

Tough match for the wahine but kudos to them for hanging around.

  71. RedZone September 14, 2013 9:30 pm

    Mita is the MVP.

  72. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 9:30 pm

be back in a bit. but all-tourney team Uiato (MOP), Hartong, Adolpho; from Arizona Kingon and Magill; Patton from PSU and NU’s Stephanie Holthus.
Nice that Kahuku VB team was here to cheer on UA setter Penina, who played for Kahuku last year. They stayed and sang the alma mater

  73. Cindy Luis September 14, 2013 9:43 pm

Need to leave but you can get the box at
    http://www.hawaiiathletics.com/boxscore.aspx?path=wvball&id=17492

  74. LanaiBoy September 14, 2013 9:56 pm

Looks like Arizona decided that it would not be beat by Hartong; tracked her with two blockers all night long; Rubio was mad when Hartong was left uncovered in her back row attacks. This left the right and middle with one blocker or late arriving 2nd blockers all night, of which Adolpho and Taylor took advantage. Good for them. Vorster still not taking good swings but still effective enough. Sort of irritated when Kawamura, Mendoza, and Long had five service errors among them. Hey, they are suppose to be serving and back row specialists. Sort of forgive them because they give opponents trouble when their serves do go in, especially Kawamura. Her jump float dances.

  75. Sharene September 15, 2013 12:20 am

I was disappointed that UA did not show for the awards ceremony. That was bad form. I thought it was a bit of poor sportsmanship. The pictures just show UH.

  76. Cindy Luis September 15, 2013 1:15 am

    76. Not poor sportsmanship. they had a plane to catch. believe the flight was at 11. They would have been in trouble if it had gone 5. Not the first time a team was a no-show at the end because of needing to get to the airport. UH has shipped a lot of awards out over the years because teams had to leave. Texas was gone at 5 a.m. the Sunday for the opening tournament. may have been back in Austin by the time UH played USD.
