Ah Mow-Santos named to WJNT staff
Congrats to Robyn Ah Mow-Santos, today named to the U.S. women’s junior national team that will compete at the NORCECA Women’s U-20 Continental Championship July 6-14 in Guatemala.
She will be an assistant for Tom Hogan, assistant coach at the University of Denver and past assistant coach for the U.S. Women’s National Team (2005-2008), Also a named as an assistant are Michigan assistant Erin Virtue.
Her bio from USAV:
Ah Mow-Santos was regarded as one of the top international setters in the world while playing for the U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team from 1999 to 2008. She was a three-time Olympian and capped her international career with the 2008 Olympic Games silver medal in Beijing.
Ah Mow-Santos played professionally overseas in Italy, Portugal and Switzerland. While playing for Volero Zurich in Switzerland, she earned the Swiss League’s most valuable player award.
Ah Mow-Santos played for Hawaii from 1993-96 and was a two-time AVCA All-America First-Team selection (1995 and 1996), and a three-time all-conference performer (1994, 1995 in Big West and 1996 in WAC). In her final two seasons at Hawai‘i, she guided the team to a 66-4 combined record which included an appearance in the NCAA title match in 1996. Ah Mow-Santos was inducted into the UH Sports Circle of Honor in 2006 and was later inducted into the Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame in 2011.
Sorry! Olympic games? She’s 40 years old. What’s up with that? Coaching yes! But playing still is too far fetch. It has got to be something else there. What’s going on?

the 1st paragraph is confusedly written, it should have identified that she would a an assistant coach.
i guess. The headline says she’s named to the staff. and the second paragraph says she is an assistant. no where does it mention the Olympics until you read her bio.
And first paragraph states it’s the JUNIOR national team that will be in the women’s UNDER-20 event. seems clear to me that she isn’t playing.

Hopefully this will help Hawaii’s recruiting. How could you not like having a coach like Robyn? Oh wait….under 20, so all the athletes will be college age?
Dear #1 Do you call yourself tiki because your head is made of wood? Robyn is a great coach and a great person and UH is lucky to have her on the staff. She was picked to coach these young ladies at the national level because she has so much to offer. Your comments make it clear that once again, you missed the point.

1 & 5. All it takes is common sense. Even if it wasn’t stated in the first paragraph that she will be coaching, it stated that it’s the JUNIOR national team.
Cindy don’t let #5 get under your skin. This blogger always seems to come up with something negative that means nothing.
congrats and good luck robyn. it’s beginning to look like she’s serious about making a career out of coaching. this will go a long way towards expanding her experience … and i’m sure also she’ll enjoy the time reconnecting with friends at the national training center.
this will only benefit recruiting efforts for hawaii as well!
15. She’s serious, as serious as she can be with two small children, a husband who gets deployed and taking care of her aging father.
