Rise of the Wahine award, FSU loses again, other Top 25

Wahine back in Gym 1 (basketball has taken over the arena this week). They are scrimmaging for a couple of hours.

Only Granoto’s paperwork is in but both Castillo and Mitchem told me that theirs is signed and waiting on transmission. Mitchem has a match tonight for undefeated IVC.

Team will take the weekend off. they’ll be back practicing early Monday and Tuesday, go a little later Wednesday, take the redeye out Wednesday to LAX. drive up the coast.
Didn’t ask if they’ll drive back to LAX Sunday. would make more sense to drive up to San Jose or SFO to fly back from SLO.

Anyway,

The HIFF Audience Award went to Rise of the Wahine.
It is presented by Hawaii News Now, the news department of three television stations in Honolulu. Hawaii News Now’s General Manager Rick Blangiardi, who is featured in the film, said of the award, “I’m very proud to have been part of this film. While Rise of the Wahine won the 2014 HIFF Audience Award, I have no doubt, when more people see it, it will deserve the People’s Choice Award for Hawaii.”

    FSU lost again…RPI?

  2. Cindy Luis November 14, 2014 4:50 pm

    1. Just saw that. 20-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-21.
FSU at No. 2 RPI as of Monday. but North Carolina at 6 and Duke 27.
How it affects Hawaii, good question. my feeling is that the Top 30 will just be jumbled. FSU should lose its top-4 seed

and in the useless trivia department, think I mentioned before that former Wahine Jennifer Roberts is married to the new FSU assistant, Ryan McGuyre, who used to be the Cal Baptist coach.

so cindy red eye flight again eh? why do they purposely do that again? and they have to besiege ucsb first no less. not an easy task. hopefully nikki has her arm with no injury but just beast power again even though they have tai this time.

    6. Don’t understand your obsession with their flights. they have been doing this kind of travel for decades. they leave Wednesday night. Get in Thursday. They don’t play until Friday.

Last year it was Cal Poly first, UCSB second. It was reversed this year. just how the schedule is.

    don’t know who’s traveling yet.

    7. don’t know the return itinerary.
There is a 5 p.m. flight on HAL that leaves out of LAX. plenty of time to get down the coast if they choose that route.

Tough loss for the Trojans…2-3 more losses & they may not make the tournament…End with four on the road at Oregon, Arizona & UCLA…

  13. warriorfan November 14, 2014 11:24 pm

I kind of hope USC loses all four on the road. Hey one less team to worry about taking UH’s at large bid.

    9. i dont have an obsession with their flights. theres of course extra attention paid to it this year because it accosted the team and almost accosted the team. but by that or your saying is that they routine take redeyes for decades. thats not plausible in fact thats laughable.

  15. Cindy Luis November 15, 2014 3:19 pm

    14. the only one paying extra attention is you. It hasn’t cost the team anything. They’ve started slow at home as well. and it’s not like they’re playing the day that they arrive. they have more than a day to acclimate.

Yes, they routinely take redeyes and have done so over the years, much more so in the old days of the WAC when they had to get to places like Louisiana Tech and New Mexico State.

Laugh all you want but it’s true. Don’t know why you think it’s not plausible. not like airlines just started flying out late just this year. All you have to look at is how many visiting teams left on the late night flight after playing the Wahine and other UH teams over the years.

    12. i question USC making the tournament now. they are below .500 in the Pac-12. just lost to a team at 106. I thought coming into the week that their RPI of 14 was a joke since they were 14-10 overall. they are 14-12 now with two more losses and 7-9 in the Pac-12. There’s got to be a point when winning counts for something.
SC’s preseason was questionable. Rider, Ark-Pine Bluff and UOP to open and they barely beat UOP 3-2.
Their RPI is higher than five teams that are ahead of them in the conference standings: UCLA, Arizona, Colorado, Arizona State, Oregon State.
If SC gets in, then it justifies to the committee to put the other 8 Pac-12 teams in. and IMHO that is wrong. Teams should be at least .500 to get into the tournament.

  17. Cubicle1126 November 16, 2014 1:27 pm

cindy — conference standings are not supposed to be used as a factor in awarding at-large bids. there is precedent for the committee in the past taking a team ranked lower in their conference’s standings, but with a superior RPI. i know it’s happened in the big-10, and it’s even happened in the big west (sometime in the 2000’s, pacific was invited to the tournament ahead of other big west teams that were higher than them in the conference).

  18. Cindy Luis November 17, 2014 10:39 am

Oh I know they aren’t supposed to use conference standing but at some point there should be common sense involved
