As for the signings, Granato signed this morning at the PIAA event, they expect Mitchem tomorrow or Friday, same with Castillo.

In case you missed my answer about Iosia’s soft commit on the previous thread. It’s the term the paper uses for non-binding oral commit from a non-senior (we use oral and not verbal). Nothing to do with how long Shoji intends to stay coaching.

Here is the info on UH men’s
The University of Hawai‘i men’s volleyball team will host NorCal Premier in an exhibition match, Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 7 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center. NorCal Premier is a professional volleyball club that participates in the Premier Volleyball League, a regional indoor pro league sanctioned by USA Volleyball.

Ticket prices are $8 (Adult), $6 (Senior Citizen 65+), $4 (Student 4-18) and can be purchased at the Stan Sheriff Center Box Office (M-F, 9 am-5 pm) and 944-2697 (press option #2).

Cindy, thank you for clarifying what was meant by saying “soft” commit.

While it is understood that any oral or verbal commitment is not binding, This recruiting parlance is often used to indicate also indicate that the recruit is still looking elsewhere & taking official & unofficial recruiting visits. Nothing to do with Coach Shoji’s future “status.”

Good news that Mitchem & Castillo are expected to sign in the next few days.

I think Iosia is a solid commit, otherwise her club wouldn’t have released the info. It’s just the way we phrase things in the paper.

so whats that about na wahine going thursday-friday?

also since that moloka’i clinic and scrimmage was cancelled due to hurricane ana the last bye week. they didnt try doing it this bye week?

if they doing it in like next spring wouldnt a couple wahine no longer exist including mendoza and especially adolpho??

  4. donamach November 13, 2014 3:51 am

the future of wahine volleyball–with present players and new recruits–looking very good! Now , all we need is continued continuity of the coaching staff (Dave , Scot and Robin) , please stay put!

How good is Granato ? Is she like Tai who is also from Punahou ?

  6. Cindy Luis November 13, 2014 8:18 am

    3. the plan is Thursday-Saturday, as they do with men’s and women’s basketball. Don’t know where you got Thursday-Friday

Molokai has been rescheduled for spring. Not like Adolpho and Mendoza won’t be around in spring. both finishing out their degrees. No they didn’t try for this weekend.

    5. Haven’t seen Granato play. Obviously good enough to be a key player and win a state championship, and to be named to the Under Armour All-American team.

  7. Brandon November 13, 2014 8:21 am

    5. Tai hits harder, but granato is a much better overall player than tai was her freshman year. Granato should be a starter, but with how DEEEEP hawaii bench is, with kalei, nikki, Castillo and McKenna at pins, it’s going to be hard to get a spot.

  8. Cindy Luis November 13, 2014 8:40 am

We’ll see where they all end up playing, and if they do next season.
Don’t know if they’re looking at Castillo at MB or OH, or if they have redshirt plans for the 2 freshmen. Some of that won’t be decided until August.

  9. karin November 13, 2014 9:33 am

Cindy when is the SA releasing the girls all-state VB selections?

The Gatorade and most outstanding player should be between Granato, Hallums and Tuileta.

  10. wildcard November 13, 2014 10:38 am

    6. thursday-friday is what you wrote above cindy and that they have the weekend off (so suggesting saturday they are off).

doesnt adolpho and mendoza graduate from the team before the moloka’i event happens?

  11. AdmrVT November 13, 2014 11:02 am

#8. Key question is how has Castillo recovered from her ACL in her jr. year. I know she is playing her sr. hear as a MB, OPP and OH, but is she 100%?

With Magill, Mitchem and Maglio as MBs, and Taylor, Greeley, Olevao, Huff, Granato, et. al. as OHs, may be better that she redshirt and fully reover. But, we’ll see. Maybe she will beat out some of the returnees by next fall.

Nice to see Hartong playing again. Wish she was still in a wahine uniform.

  13. warriorfan November 13, 2014 11:53 am

Granato is definitely a better player than Olevao was, comparing them in their senior years at Punahou. I think Granato actually hits harder too.
Granato IMO will be UH’s version of Macey Gardner.

    11. Casey’s stats for her high school aren’t all that impressive, but her team seems to rely on Lexi Sun a lot.
I liked what I saw from Casey this past summer at the junior olympics with her club team, she’s easily 6′ 4 , hits hard and she blocks with a lot of force.

  15. AdmrVT November 13, 2014 1:04 pm

#14. I’d forgotten Sun is on the same HS team, but given that, their HS team’s record is not that good.

Aside from Casey and Lexi, team must have some weaknesses that teams are exploiting.

Castillo signed on Wednesday as well.

Watched Utah sweep UCLA 3-0 behind two freshmen, Katoa and Anae (Kahuku H. S.).

  18. Cindy Luis November 13, 2014 3:10 pm

    9. sorry don’t know about the all-state. not involved with that.

  19. Cindy Luis November 13, 2014 3:13 pm

    10. think I miss understood you, that you were discussing the change in Big West schedule. the Thursday-Friday was in regards to this week’s practice

They will also have Saturday-Sunday off, at least that was as of today. Shoji may change his mind after they scrimmage Friday.

    16. Castillo signed ‘mock’ at her high school. hasn’t sent in the paper work. told me maybe later today or tomorrow.

  20. Cindy Luis November 13, 2014 3:16 pm

    10. no, Adolpho and Mendoza graduate in May. Molokai will happen earlier in the spring semester.

  21. Cindy Luis November 13, 2014 3:19 pm

    11. as have written before, won’t know about who plays where until fall camp. Mitchem does not have a redshirt year, the other two do. I know that Mitchem and Castillo have played multiple positions during their career. believe Granato mostly OH. her coach Fuamatu-Anderson seems to think Granato will be ready for DI right away.

#17 I think that game was a rerun

watching washington against Colorado and it’s tied at 6 in the 5th.
