Van Tilburg, Melounova honored by Big West; get your final four tickets now

Congrats to Hawaii’s senior men’s volleyball player Stijn van Tilburg and junior women’s tennis player Petra Melounova. They will will be honored as the University of Hawaii’s recipients of the Big West Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award. One male and one female student-athlete from each of the nine conference schools will be honored at a special banquet next Thursday at the Marriott Suites hotel in Garden Grove, Calif.

Doubt if SVT will make the banquet. Warriors host CSUN next week. UH women’s tennis hosts Indiana on the 13th, so that would also seem to be a difficult trip for Melounova.

An Economics major with a minor in Political Science, van Tilburg has earned Dean’s List six semesters, earning a perfect 4.0 in four semesters.

Melounova is a 4.0 student-athlete. The two-time reigning Big West player of the year, was just named the Big West player of the week to go with her UH women’s scholar-athlete award.
