Gage Worsley earned his first career Big West Defensive Player of the Week award on Monday.

The sophomore libero averaged 3.00 digs per set in the home series sweep of No. 8 Stanford.

Worsley had a match-high 11 digs in the opener, a 25-15, 27-25, 25-22 win.

He had seven digs in the 25-15, 25-18, 25-16 victory on Sunday.

Worsley’s defense helped limit Stanford to .246 hitting over the two matches.

UC Santa Barbara took the other two awards. Player of the week to Corey Chavers, freshman of the week to Ryan Wilcox, a Punahou grad. UH had nominated Rado Parapunov for POW.

Long Beach State and Hawaii stayed at 1-2 in <a href="http://” rel=”noopener” target=”_blank”>this week’s AVCA poll. The biggest drop: BYU from 3 to 7 after being swept twice at UCSB.

I didn’t realize that Chavers won POW last week…I think Rado has this one…not likely that one player will win two weeks in a row…

    2. Not so. Torrey van Winden won two Big West Player of Week honors in September and Lindsey Ruddins won her second back to back award on Oct. 1st last year. So it is possible. It is possible that Covey Chavers could win it again this week, unless the committee appreciates Rado Parapunov’s higher hitting percentage. We’ll find out soon.

    3. I said it was not likely…I didn’t say it was impossible…

Too bad…they should have spread the wealth around and rewarded Rado’s crazy numbers…but, I guess an upset is an upset…

Personal awards mean nothing. I’m sure all the guys on the team are more happy about their 5-0 record and their number 2 ranking more than individual awards. Just like #1 Long Beach State, UH is loaded with talent all over and the only fair thing to do is to spread the wealth around.
