Lost in the hoopla of BYU was this
Former Warrior Stijn van Tilburg named the Hawaii’s Male Athlete of the Year for 2019 for the Big West. Female athlete is Petra Melounova from the Rainbow Wahine tennis team.
Each school picks a top male and female athlete. The 18 will be honored Thursday at the Anaheim Marriott Suites Hotel.
SVT was the Big West Conference Tournament MVP, leading the Rainbow Warriors to its first Big West Conference Tournament title and eventually to the NCAA National Championship match. He was just the second UH men’s volleyball player to earn all AVCA All-American first team honors three times. He graduated in May 2019 with a degree in Economics and was part of the winningest class in UH men’s volleyball program history. SVT is now playing professionally in Italy. After his pro career, his plans include getting his Master’s and becoming a Division I athletic director
