Hawaii at No. 4 in first regular-season poll

Hawaii (0-0), preseason No. 3, slipped to No. 4 in today’s first regular season AVCA Division I-II men’s volleyball top 15, trading places with UC Irvine. The Anteaters (3-0), No. 3 last week, defeated then-No. 9 Loyola-Chicago in five and then-No. 7 Lewis in four last week, and swept new No. 14 Ball State today.

Defending national champion Long Beach State (3-0) remained the unanimous No. 1 with UCLA (2-0) staying at No. 2.


Hawaii opens the regular season with this week’s Hawaiian Airlines Classic. The Warriors face New Jersey Institute of Technology (0-2) in Thursday’s 7 p.m. match; USC (0-0) and Concordia-Irvine (0-3) play in the 4 p.m. opener.

    Polls are really meaningless at this early stage. There are so much games to be played to worry about the poll.

    UH just got to concentrate on getting better each set so when we get to the conference matches, we should be in sync and ready to roll.

    On the news of the Oregon transfer from Kamehameha…1st team all-state and should be good. But looks like she was out of a numbers game….two 2017 UA 1st team All-Americans played as freshman in the backcourt last year- Nuneviller had 580 digs and earned various honors, while I assume Tastad (204 digs) was the DS. Plus they got a 2018 UA 1st team All-American from a Texas HS coming in next year!
