Taylor, Magill named All-Americans

Hawaii junior opposite Nikki Taylor and senior middle Olivia Magill were named to the AVCA All-America team announced this morning, the 55th and 56th certificates for the Rainbow Wahine volleyball program.

Taylor, a two-time beach volleyball All-American, was named to the 14-member second team and Magill, an honorable mention last season, to the 14-member third team. Hawaii (29-2) was eliminated in the regional final last Saturday by second-seeded Minnesota.

Taylor, the Big West player of the year, ranked in the top 50 nationally this season in five categories (points average, kill average, ace average, total points and total aces). The Kaiser High product finished the year with team highs of 468 kills — nine shy of 1,000 for her career — 44 aces and 575.5 points.

Magill, one of just two Rainbow Wahine to start all 31 matches, was ranked in the top 20 nationally in blocks and hitting percentage. The transfer from Arizona led the Big West in blocks (153) and hitting percentage (.412), and was second on the team to Taylor in kills (281) and points (366.5).

Congratulations to Nikki and Olivia – so very deserved! So happy that OMG ends her career on a such a high note with this recognition as an All American Middle Hitter. What a way to end your career!!

As to Nikki, her saga continues. And next year, I hope you give them hell for not giving you the 1st Team recognition that she clearly earned.

Congrats to Nikki & OMG. Both deserved higher IMHO, but still great recognition for them and the program.

Surprised the see that Missouri got two players on the HM list, and neither of them are named Carly Kan. Wasn’t Kan the go to player for the Tigers? I know the other two had better stats in a couple of categories, but Carly had more kills and seemed to be the player they went to when they needed the point.
