now the 5-1 is with Gaskin in, Iosia setting

  8. Cindy Luis August 26, 2018 2:12 pm

think match will be called tighter. KSU setter called for a lift. they let that go last night.

  9. Cindy Luis August 26, 2018 2:13 pm

    6. can’t tell you. Don’t work for TV. I know they were having technical issues setting up

  15. warriorwahine August 26, 2018 2:22 pm

vertical ball necessary, no matter what.

  16. Cindy Luis August 26, 2018 2:26 pm

  17. ballerz August 26, 2018 2:31 pm

higher set needed for opposite hitter

  18. Cindy Luis August 26, 2018 2:32 pm

Iosia 5-0-6 so far. she was two kills away from a triple-double last night.

  19. warriorwahine August 26, 2018 2:33 pm

need to work on some aces.

  20. Cindy Luis August 26, 2018 2:34 pm

  23. Cindy Luis August 26, 2018 2:39 pm

UH challenging the touch on the block on an attempt by Iosia.

  24. Cindy Luis August 26, 2018 2:40 pm

Call stands. no touch. K-State Iosia’s first error.

  25. Cindy Luis August 26, 2018 2:48 pm

  26. warriorwahine August 26, 2018 2:54 pm

    getting there. lets go bows!

  27. Cindy Luis August 26, 2018 2:55 pm

Hawaii was being outblocked 6-0, it’s now 6-4 with Iosia and Burns teaming up for a stuff. Wildcats still lead 13-11. TO K-State.

  28. Cindy Luis August 26, 2018 3:03 pm

Hawaii challenging that K-State attack was out.

  29. Cindy Luis August 26, 2018 3:05 pm

    Call overturned. UH leads 17-16

  30. Cindy Luis August 26, 2018 3:06 pm

Liva on the overpass, the backrow setter touched it so called for backrow violation.
    Wahine up 18-16. TO K-State

  31. Cindy Luis August 26, 2018 3:14 pm

Hawaii had set point at 24-20, 21 and 22. Can’t convert. TO Wahine.

  32. Cindy Luis August 26, 2018 3:19 pm

OUCH. Hawaii can’t close. UH had 5 set points. Liva blocked on K-State’s second attempt. ends it 27-25.

  33. warriorwahine August 26, 2018 3:19 pm

from bad to worse to impossible isnt it?

  34. Brandon Yoshikawa August 26, 2018 3:19 pm

Maafala making some POOR setting descisions.

  35. warriorwahine August 26, 2018 3:21 pm

unfortunately it started from faiths conservative serve. didnt hit it hard enough, especially if you are going to stand float it over.

  36. ballerz August 26, 2018 3:22 pm

we had a chance but couldn’t close it. lets go bows!

  37. Ashley August 26, 2018 3:24 pm

oh my gosh, feels like no improvement was made. lucky UCLA & Gonzaga cancelled their trip cus guarantee this team isn’t ready at all. we would probably have another 0-3 opening weekend, but no diff because we going have an 0-2 opening any who. maybe i am expecting too much, but damn it’s the little things that this years team can’t get done and this is in just two matches against the same school.

  38. Warriorfan August 26, 2018 3:32 pm

Wow this team needs someone that will be clutch late in sets it’s nothing but errors when it matters most, it will be a long season if this continues.

  39. Cindy Luis August 26, 2018 3:34 pm

    K-State up 10-8. TO UH

  40. Cindy Luis August 26, 2018 3:41 pm

    K-State out 18-12. TO UH

  41. warriorwahine August 26, 2018 3:41 pm

wahine at this point are just rolling over to die arent they?

  42. Cindy Luis August 26, 2018 3:48 pm

It looked like Iosia would have her 10th kill. K-State won the challenge so instead of 20-17 it’s 21-16.

  43. warriorwahine August 26, 2018 3:49 pm

    that is some bull….

  44. Warriorfan August 26, 2018 3:52 pm

Lets just hope k state is a top fifteen level team this season , otherwise these two sweeps are very embarassing.

  45. Cindy Luis August 26, 2018 3:52 pm

Hawaii holds off two match points but not a third, K-State finishes sweep 25-19.

  46. Hot August 26, 2018 3:55 pm

A lot of fans were hyping up Gaskin to be an automatic upgrade from Koelsch since the former is a natural “lefty” opposite and the latter was a setter trying to fill a void. Hitting negative two nights in a row and being benched and replaced by the team’s top setter…yikes.

  47. Brandon Yoshikawa August 26, 2018 3:56 pm

Hawaii NEEDS to ditch the 6-2. Let Norene set her 5-1. Let sibley and gaskin battle for the 3rd pin spot.

  48. Warriorfan August 26, 2018 3:57 pm

R46 not sure what is going on with her she put up much better numbers against big ten competition.

  49. ballerz August 26, 2018 3:58 pm

big 12 team predicted to finish 5th. results were not great but we can do better. cant wait to see coastal carolina match. go bows!

  50. Warriorfan August 26, 2018 4:01 pm

R49 honestly they looked like a top twenty team but hawaii did help them out with all those errors at crucial times, extremely frustrating!!!
also these tired old refs need to go.

  51. Ashley August 26, 2018 4:03 pm

Robin is gonna have to go back to basics with these girls. I know she said that last season she went back to basics because it was her first year, and she didn’t know the girls, what they could do and where they were at. this year it seems like she “felt” she knew where all these girls were at, so it look like she skipped the whole going back to basics thing.

clearly in two matches alone, it seems like going back to basics would be the most obvious thing to do. Hawaii looked bad the first night, and even worse the second. they have good players, just trying to figure out when they will show up.

Coastal Carolina will be no joke either, they seem like a team that will give Hawaii problems if they don’t wake up.

    & the refs didn’t help either….again

  52. HawaiiMongoose August 26, 2018 4:03 pm

Back to back sweeps. I’d like to say something positive but to be truthful I can’t think of anything. We just aren’t very good right now, and what scares me is that I don’t see a lot of upside for improvement. When I look at the roster and ask who has the potential to become a whole lot better over the next month or two I don’t come up with any obvious answers.

  53. Kazu August 26, 2018 4:05 pm

37 I was thinking the same thing. They probably would be 0-4.
They got lots of work for sure. Hate seeing Iosia in that position as an O/H
Best part of the match at the end when the aunties were giving out the leis. Lots of smiles.

  54. warriorwahine August 26, 2018 4:11 pm

    46. norene as an attacking setter. thats wonderful if you had more out of the rest your team.

  55. uhfan August 26, 2018 4:37 pm

This team is embarrassing. These coaches are a joke. Just praying they actually win a set this season and I’m being serious.

  56. Astroboy August 26, 2018 4:38 pm

Until the very end, our setter was our kill leader? Something doesn’t seem right here….

  57. warriorwahine August 26, 2018 4:40 pm

  58. locomoco August 26, 2018 4:59 pm

Coach’s explanation for the loss – “We need everyone who is on the court to do their job” – sad to say, is Chow-esque. Great coaches take the heat – I/we didn’t prepare the team properly.

In this case, coaches don’t seem to be doing their job recruiting talent. Taking return-home transfers ain’t going to cut it.

  59. Ron August 26, 2018 5:04 pm

This effort was a big improvement over last night. Unfortunately, K-State also improved. Granato should not be used the back row. Akiu is a really good passer and the setter had the opportunity to set the best option which she did not do consistently. Gaskins will be fine. She was being set with big, high balloons that made her vulnerable to the block. As far as the middles are concerned, you can’t coach hight.

  60. Rainbowfan August 26, 2018 5:12 pm

Give the ladies a break. It’s just the first two games with a team that has new dynamics. They will only get better.

  61. Bleachercoach August 26, 2018 5:47 pm

Not what I had expected after seeing them scrimmage last week…I know this team has a “drive” in them, but the newly assembled look doesnt appear like a future working machine. With our lack of size and athleticism up front, we do not do our team any justice by running a 6-2 I am not questioning athleticism of smaller players but unless they possess super skills and athleticism then I don’t like to exchange a little more height for any other reason. I think we really expected Angel Gaskin to step up but to her defense we need to be fair to her. A new system and a new setter may take time to get used to. We have or had 3 -4-5 year players that still struggle to find a rythym . I would like to see McKenna Ross if healthy enough to come in and play. If she does , maybe we can keep Iosia at her at her recruited position ( Setting only) and let the recruited/walk on OH’s battle it out. I know the coaches had said earlier that “All the players may have to play positions that best fits the benefit the TEAM” Maybe Coach and the staff may have to revisit that statement and really take a good look at how they are analyzing..We sure don’t want to defeat morale of the team because its still early in the season….

  62. Connor August 26, 2018 5:58 pm

I think that RObyn is trying to shoehorn maafala into the lineup because she is the captain. But the 6-2 is not working so she should go back and make iosia the primary setter and develop the others. Also Castillo and Granato are not doing the job on the outside or as passers.

  63. H-Man August 26, 2018 6:15 pm

Many problems to fix, but one thing cannot. K-State took advantage of their height advantage. Their 6-3/6-4 outsides simply hit over Wahine’s middles (often 6-0/6-1). Of course depending on the rotation, Wahine can put up a bigger block. Same for their outsides. They seemed to simply hit over the Wahine block. I just wonder if coach Robyn can pull this out to make the Wahine competitive. Yes, my perception has changed after watching today’s match.

  64. oneseason August 26, 2018 6:27 pm

Aside from messing with the non-Power 5 conference teams, I can’t see why the NCAA would require that non-conference (e.g., preseason) women’s volleyball matches have only a 5 minute break between sets 2 and 3. This break, and the associated festivities, makes the match much more engaging for fans. And for the non-Power 5 conference teams, these are the big name opponents that they will be facing. Getting the Hawaii fans engaged for the matches helps get the Stan Sheriff Center loud and more challenging for opponents. To me, this NCAA rule is equivalent to reducing half-time for non-conference football games, and basically prohibiting marching band performances. Of course that wouldn’t happen because the TV broadcasts would be impacted. I wonder if this isn’t something that could be looked at from a Title IX standpoint.

  65. Bleachercoach August 26, 2018 6:32 pm

Regardless..The main thing is if we can work out some things in time for the girls to turn things around in the Big West Conference. Going through Adversities will truly build character. Reaping the rewards are so much greater when the team will overcome them. Lessons in the real world called LIFE

  66. IgnacioSaid August 26, 2018 7:03 pm

new coaching staff / new ideas (?) We have been spoiled through the Shoji years , to expect a high level of WVB. This is a new era, so look at this as a preseason to Big West. RAM-S is trying to lead this team , so let her lead. I don’t quite understand her idea of going pri-marily with returning players (instead of grooming the newer players) but , it’s her choice. Robyn/coaches should concentrate on reversing trends for serving , receiving , passing and setting troubles.I would say that there are TOO MANY losing focus!!!

  67. Big Island volleyball fan August 26, 2018 8:17 pm

The video was great, but the team didn’t improve. All those who suggest replacing the coach, whom would you like to see instead?

  68. Cindy Luis August 26, 2018 9:32 pm

66 please let’s not go there
2 matches into a second year?
Agree with the soft serving Ah Mow-santos said the same
IMHO They lost a lot of leadership from last year Players who had been in the program 4-5 years This is a very young team in terms of being together KSU had 5 returning starters and were much more cohesive Definitely they used height to their advantage
