Wonderful news concerning a terrific person. She has given Hawaii so much and has expressed her gratefulness for what Hawaii has done for her.

Congrats to Mags!! She had a great career here and exceeded all expectations )both indoors and on the beach). Hope she is announced as a beach All-American.

i wish Canada would qualify for the Olympics in indoor but I know that’s a longshot.

Yay Mags! Good for her! It would be awesome if somewhere in the future she came back and helped coach alongside Robyn. Anyway, I just re-read posting of the previous thread and Cindy, you mentioned Gabby graduating, I didn’t even know she was still going school, does that mean her position is vacated b/c she graduated?

T103 sorry but who is Gabby thanks

T103 – yes Gabby graduated this weekend, she was a grad assistant so won’t be with the team any longer.

Congrats to Emily! It was so much fun to watch her play and those cute facial expressions. All the best to her in the future.

    3. The only way it could happen is if USA would qualify for the Olympics by winning first or second place in the World Cup next year. Then Canada might have a shot at making the Olympics provided they defeat Dominican Republic, the next best team, in the NORCECA final early in 2020. Question is: would you want to see Maglio compete against the USA in the Olympics? Pairings in the preliminaries are random by lottery. So that could happen.

Congratulations to Emily Maglio on a superb college career. We were lucky to watch her game grow, and she was so gracious in her appreciation of Hawaii and the fans. Wishing her all the best with the Canadian national team, and I’d seriously go find a Canadian flag to wave if her team makes it into the Olympics.

Hope this is not the last we see of her in the 808.

Is Kalei going to grad school in the fall? Is Maglio going to grad school or planning on playing indoors oversea’s. National team is not a full time commitment right?

    5. oldtimer808, I think they’re referring to Gabby Matautia, Austin’s sister who was a student assistant on the men’s team.

  13. T103 May 16, 2018 5:20 pm

@Oldtimer808. Gabby is Austin’s older sister and yes she was one of the assistant coaches on the team. U could see her sitting next to the coaches, and she was always carrying an iPad. There probably is a difference with one of Wade’s assistant coaches who are hired and paid, vs a assistant who may or may not be payed but a student.

    11. According to their schedule, the Canadian National Team has commitments until end of October. After that, Maglio could try a professional team for the winter (or come back and play Beach for a semester).
