  2. Cindy Luis December 6, 2014 5:39 pm

Shoji may get a yellow early. several bad calls going against Hawaii. ball was obviously down, no call. finally got the call on the second one.

  3. Mags December 6, 2014 5:42 pm

did the game start yet, cindy?

  4. Cindy Luis December 6, 2014 5:45 pm

UW has pulled away at 13-7. TO UH

  5. Cindy Luis December 6, 2014 5:52 pm

Mendoza with a great dig and 2 tough serves have UH closing to 16-13. TO UW

  6. Cindy Luis December 6, 2014 5:54 pm

Koelsch into the front row. One play. Higgins back in at 18-15

  7. Cindy Luis December 6, 2014 5:57 pm

Ball was so out. Call to UW again. 20-18.

  8. Cindy Luis December 6, 2014 5:59 pm

UW up 22-18. UH not playing poorly but tough to overcome some pretty poor calls/noncalls by the officials.

  9. Cindy Luis December 6, 2014 6:02 pm

    UW wins 25-20.

  10. Warriorfan December 6, 2014 6:04 pm

Wahine not hitting well, too many errors, They need to serve tough when finau is in there and get them to shank some balls.
If they do that and hit smarter , they have a chance .

  11. 45 year Hawaii fan December 6, 2014 6:06 pm

Thank you for the game updates!

    Go Wahine!!

  12. bleachercoach December 6, 2014 6:07 pm

    Bring in Ginger!!!!

  13. Warriorfan December 6, 2014 6:08 pm

UW is having an off serving night, the wahine hitters need to get their act together, and they can win this.

  14. bleachercoach December 6, 2014 6:08 pm

    Speed kills

  15. Cindy Luis December 6, 2014 6:09 pm

    UH up 5-1. TO UH.
WF. are you only going by game tracker? because that’s not what is going on on the court. 3 of Hawaii’s errors were missed calls by the refs.

  16. Cindy Luis December 6, 2014 6:16 pm

Mendoza with an ace. UH up 14-7. TO UW

  17. Cindy Luis December 6, 2014 6:29 pm

    Hawaii wins 25-19

  18. Warrior Dave December 6, 2014 6:30 pm

Whew! Much improved in second set. Keep it up Wahine.

  19. Cubicle1126 December 6, 2014 6:33 pm

    wahine battling back … awesome

  20. wildcard December 6, 2014 6:35 pm

    wahine=killer bees vs u-dub=hornets

wahine being a thorn to u-dubs side and stinging them in set 2.

wear down vansant! lets go bows!

  21. Hilobaymoon December 6, 2014 6:35 pm

After we won the 2nd match, the announcer on ESPN 1420 radio has said twice that the match has been reduced to a “best 2 out of 3”. Anyone know what he is talking about?

  22. bleachercoach December 6, 2014 6:36 pm

This team gives me a great feeling about our future….wow…The Big West Conference prepared us surprisingly!

  23. Aloha73g December 6, 2014 6:38 pm

    21. Theres 3 sets left. Whoever wins 2 of those 3 wins the match.

  24. Kazu December 6, 2014 6:39 pm

I feel good about this team. I think this is going 5

  25. Cindy Luis December 6, 2014 6:41 pm

    23. thank you for getting to that first. I’m writing during the match too

  26. Cindy Luis December 6, 2014 6:49 pm

UW on a 3-0 run, up 12-9. TO UH

  27. bleachercoach December 6, 2014 6:50 pm

A hitting change putting in a fresh healthy and quick LONG might be an answer

  28. bleachercoach December 6, 2014 6:51 pm

    Oh my gosh

  29. Hilobaymoon December 6, 2014 6:53 pm

    23. Ahh! Thanks much. His comments really confused me.

  30. bleachercoach December 6, 2014 6:59 pm

    Is it Tai’s last year?

  31. Cindy Luis December 6, 2014 6:59 pm

UW up 21-15. TO UH. Hawaii has done a pretty good job on Vansant. UH must be close to running out of subs. Manu-Olevao stayed in to serve.

  32. Cindy Luis December 6, 2014 6:59 pm

    30. no, she’s a junior

  33. bleachercoach December 6, 2014 6:59 pm

I forgot she got 1 more year

  34. Cindy Luis December 6, 2014 7:01 pm

    UW wins 25-16.

  35. bleachercoach December 6, 2014 7:02 pm

I would start Higs, Taylor, Magill, Sarah, Ginger, and Greeley….sit Tai

  36. Cubicle1126 December 6, 2014 7:04 pm

well you knew uw would raise their game …

  37. wildcard December 6, 2014 7:04 pm

tai is actually doing ok. u-dub has yet to even na wahine. however they now need to fight to the death. they wore vansant down but they need to worry about the other 1 or 2.

  38. bleachercoach December 6, 2014 7:05 pm

I am so PROUD of this team regardless..Just to win 1 Set is awesome!

  39. wildcard December 6, 2014 7:05 pm

u-dub has yet to ace* wahine.

  40. bleachercoach December 6, 2014 7:08 pm

It takes Al Scates on national TV to tell the truth about our sets to Magill…Fans and complainers see it…This confirms it

  41. wildcard December 6, 2014 7:13 pm

higs needs to set up higher and faster to her assault gun magill

  42. Cindy Luis December 6, 2014 7:13 pm

    UW up 10-5, TO UH.
    40. we’ve never argued that the sets were too low. they are. but she’s also jumped early at times.

  43. Cindy Luis December 6, 2014 7:18 pm

UW up 15-8. on a 4-0 run. TO UH

  44. Kazu December 6, 2014 7:21 pm

Error’s not helping. Looks like their giving up.My feeling just took a u turn.

  45. bleachercoach December 6, 2014 7:23 pm

    42. True just a connection they really need to clean up by next year or it is a waste to have a talented middle blocker that can sky..
    Sorry bout that comment

  46. warriorfan December 6, 2014 7:24 pm

UH passed well enough , the defense was great, the hitting was a disppointment and setting to the middles was poor.

I am sick and tired of UH losing to UW in the tourney, it’s time to step it up next year to finally get to the sweet sixteen, this program is in a funk.

  47. warriorfan December 6, 2014 7:25 pm

Nikki, tai, and Kalei, just not htting smart, I know the sets are off, but way to many errors, it killed UH,

  48. warriorfan December 6, 2014 7:26 pm

being up fast and early is not a problem, sets need to be faster period. Scares it pointing out Higgins sets are just to slow and low , her backsets are better and faster.

  49. bleachercoach December 6, 2014 7:27 pm

Something is missing!! Hope they find a solution very soon…

  50. warriorfan December 6, 2014 7:29 pm

At least they took a set and passed well, and played great defense, but way too many hitting errors. Setting off, but the hitters just tried to do way too much, Disappointing.

  51. wildcard December 6, 2014 7:33 pm

oh well another glorious lost for na wahine. at least they made u-dub particularly vansant have to fight for it. next time its a matter of tiring not only that star hitter but her supports as well.

  52. wildcard December 6, 2014 7:35 pm

not only tiring their* star hitter not that. vansant graduates. stupid iphone is hard to type.

  53. Cubicle1126 December 6, 2014 7:38 pm

proud of the fight that the wahine showed in set 2 … but uw just too good this year, and too tough to beat at home.

  54. Kazu December 6, 2014 7:44 pm

Wahine basketball now on. Hope for a better year in 2015. Make changes as they go along and try to fix whatever the problem they have this year. 8 more months before they start all over again.Be safe for the Holidays everyone.

  55. Warriorfan December 6, 2014 7:47 pm

Still upsetting how many free points they gave washington on out hits.
Anyway Mendoza and Kale A will be missed, they were playing great to end their wahine careers. Mendoza was lights out today.

A better day for wahine recruits. Norene won the california state championship and Annie’s team is in the final tomorrow, she hit a state record .828 on 19 kills on 23 attacks.

  56. Cindy Luis December 6, 2014 7:48 pm

be back later. it was a tough draw agin for UH. they played well first two sets. got into bad rotations.

  57. bleachercoach December 6, 2014 8:04 pm

Yes 55…Mendoza played brilliantly!! So proud of her and Kalei….will most you both!

  58. Ashley December 6, 2014 8:14 pm

Sarah & Kalei will be missed, just like every wahine who graduates. but let’s not forget Ginger. I knew and so did everyone else, that this was another set up. I’m not making excuses, but doesn’t it look obvious?

anyway, they didn’t let themselves get swept, so I take that as something positive. I wish they played better, but oh well, it is what it is. I am not up to date with incoming players. what does next season look like for hawaii?

  59. wildcard December 6, 2014 8:26 pm

sarah bear played like a fast, speedy and champion libero (hey shes coached by one on the sidelines). she made getting the ball a priority! adolpho also took command and na wahine made the best of everything.

they werent easy fodder for u-dub like some joker on here protests. washington actually had to fight for it. vansant looked winded, i mean you can see her visibly panting like shes in the fight for her life while na wahine didnt show that at all. but its the hitting errors, too many out hits and some bad calls, wahine may have won set 1 if it werent for the bad calls, it was like that ball was obviously down or actually made in quite several times.

obviously na wahine targeted vansant and wore her down but her support team picked it up for her. hey at least na wahine was never aced including by their loose cannon dangerous libero who tried to make easy prey and even finish them off. it may be considerably embarrassing for washington though, they got a new dubious record of many inexcusable service errors and no aces.

  60. wildcard December 6, 2014 8:30 pm

    58. read sa saying about gingers long good bye. although her indoor career she has already considered pau and shes foregoing sand this year but she may return to sand as a grad.

  61. wildcard December 6, 2014 8:34 pm

btw does anyone know why jim mclaughlin, u-dub coach appears pissed all the time?

oh i wait i know maybe its because of his teams shoddy performance with the serves and expectations of dominating. he not satisfied with his win that took quite a bit longer.

  62. hatakeman December 6, 2014 8:35 pm

What exactly went wrong for the Wahine from the middle of set 3 and it carried over to set 4, only it got worse? Was it Washington’s blocking? The Wahine was out of sorts. They rarely got a good kill in the last two sets. Their blocking went missing. So what went wrong?

  63. warriorfan December 6, 2014 8:46 pm

setting became erratic and UH got blocked a lot or hit out.

  64. Sickman Fraud December 6, 2014 9:05 pm

The fact we are still talking about the setting after a full season is incredulous. Hopefully everyone improves during the off season and Coach Shoji really opens up competition for all positions. Overall a good respectable season for a young NaWahine team. Can’t wait to see what Mitchum brings to this team.

  65. warriorfan December 6, 2014 9:07 pm

    61. Mclachlin just is a sourpuss, I dont think i’ve ever seen that man smile.

  66. bleachercoach December 6, 2014 9:21 pm

Well looking at it perspective: Washington always get the best of the best(recruits)! in the west like the Penn St. of the east..but I truly love our girls effort! You could tell their were playing their hearts out! I felt the way we started game 3 that we could’ve taken this match into at least 5 games or a possible big upset. Washington is the type of team you have to capitalize on every opportunity. ….They got the best player in the Pac 10 among so many of elite players from Stanford, Arizona, Oregon, etc… They got the #1 recruit out of high school this 2014 year (Chrissy Jones)…and the cast of all the other High School Americans… We stood stood tall, unwavering and gave them our best punches….Yes, there was a “ROCKY” story unfolding from Game 2 but the ending of the story didn’t have the same ending… Again, what a movie and ride….until next year…We will be waiting anxiously!

  67. warriorfan December 6, 2014 9:39 pm

Jones was not the number 1 recruit of out high school. It was Haleigh washington at PSU.

  68. wildcard December 6, 2014 9:49 pm

at one point wahine was dominating in set 2 but ultimately u-dub stepped it up and their fortification was just too strong to besiege.

  69. Cindy Luis December 6, 2014 10:41 pm

Don’t know why you think McLaughlin never smiles. he is intense on the bench. He cracked jokes in the press conferences last night and tonight.

what happened to UH? got worn down by a bigger team. UW rotated one position back and got a better match up. they stacked on Magill, which forced UH to go to the outsides a lot more than planned. Not like UW hadn’t seen Magill before when at U of A.

  70. blunite December 7, 2014 2:45 am

Being outblocked 3-1 speaks to better tactics, ditto on the low Hawaii hitting percentages (random setting with no strategy or tactics involved). After the second game, McLaughlin said he made adjustments, which apparently worked. Wahine could benefit from watching the setting in Charlie Wade’s mens team. It is quicker and cleaner.

  71. Kazu December 7, 2014 9:41 am

Hawaii still # 1 in Sr. night celebration. Their time will come one day when they will beat Washington at Washington.

  72. wildcard December 7, 2014 3:32 pm

    65. agreed. only time said sourpuss only smiles is in front of his portrait being taken or in front of the media press conference when ncaa is concerned.

    69. mclaughlin always looks so upset. theres no point getting him to smile. well up next for u-dub is their old nemesis nebraska who i recall mclaughlin got into a fight with their head coach in an ncaa match and had to be escorted out?? perhaps nebraska can upset washington once again? then mclaughlin can be rightfully upset.
    – and that is why i call mclaughlin the villain.

  73. wildcard December 7, 2014 3:44 pm

    69. uh outshot too many trying to avoid the block. taylor especially and then tai. greeley never tried her force off the block into the antenna shot. and uh although wasnt afraid of u-dubs serve or spike was worried more than needed about hitting the block. the digging was superb and so was the passing (even by tai), sarah mendoza never let the ball drop on her watch on the entire court during the entire match and even dug the ball with her foot! the setting was meh when trying to use the wahine assault gun, magill. alas, better tactics next year and then uh dont need to worry about u-dub.
