Yeah it’s early in the conference season, but when seeing the conference standings, its still a splash of cold water to see the Wahine at 5-5/1-0 behind Cal Poly (13-1/3-0), Long Beach St (10-5/2-0) and UC Irvine (7-6/1-0). And looking further down the list, there’s UCSB at 10-5/2-1. Today’s match is almost a must win for the Wahine. It’s not, but ….

  2. HawaiiMongoose September 23, 2018 12:23 pm

UH down 15-12 in the first set. Playing great defense but not productive enough on offense. UCI has never beaten the Wahine in 38 tries… will that change today?

  3. HawaiiMongoose September 23, 2018 12:37 pm

Gaskin hits out to give UCI the first set 25-23. Argh.

  4. warriorwahine September 23, 2018 12:39 pm

come on wahine! get this back.

  5. Cindy Luis September 23, 2018 1:05 pm

Hawaii loses Set 1 25-23 after being up 22-21.
Wahine led 6-1 and by as many as 8 at 14-6 Anteaters with their first lead 22-21. TO UH (last time out)

  6. Cindy Luis September 23, 2018 1:07 pm

Carter ends it. UCI win 25-22.

  7. Ashley September 23, 2018 1:08 pm

they are literally gonna get swept. how do you blow the second set? I will never understand

  8. HawaiiMongoose September 23, 2018 1:10 pm

What a disaster. After building 14-6 and 17-10 leads the Wahine lose focus, lose momentum and lose the second set 25-22. I’ve never seen a Wahine team blow big leads the way this year’s squad does.

  9. HawaiiMongoose September 23, 2018 1:11 pm

    UH is hitting .121. SMH.

  10. Cindy Luis September 23, 2018 1:28 pm

    8. i have seen them blow leads under Shoji. but it has been a while.

  11. Cindy Luis September 23, 2018 1:29 pm

    9. that in part to being blocked 10 times by UCI.

  12. Bleachercoach September 23, 2018 1:36 pm

Not surprised! This year will be a very trying year in the Big West . It will be difficult just to finish what they predicted us (2nd after Cal Poly).
Robyn and Staff just got to get back to recruiting some athletes in the future. Hopefully some with height and athleticism. I must say one positive thing is these girls never quit and are relentless.
We, the fans, just have to be patient because this will be a rough year.
    Go Bows!!!

  13. Cindy Luis September 23, 2018 1:36 pm

    Granato with a double-double so far 13 kills-10 digs
    Akiu with 11 digs
    Hawaii up 21-19. TO UCI

  14. Cindy Luis September 23, 2018 1:40 pm

    Hawaii up 22-21. TO Wahine.

  15. Cindy Luis September 23, 2018 1:42 pm

Okino with the ace, it’s 24-22. TO UCI

  16. Cindy Luis September 23, 2018 1:45 pm

UCI service error ends it 25-23. On to Set 4

  17. Bleachercoach September 23, 2018 1:45 pm

    Yeah!

  18. HawaiiMongoose September 23, 2018 1:50 pm

    11. I should have been more specific. What I meant to say is that I don’t recall previous Wahine teams blowing big leads in multiple matches. It’s almost become a pattern with this year’s squad whereas I don’t recall it being a pattern with any of Dave’s teams. Having said that, it will be a lot less concerning if UH can dig out of the hole and come from behind to win this thing.

  19. Astroboy September 23, 2018 1:53 pm

On the positive side, I am finding Brian’s color commentary surprisingly restrained and somewhat informative.

  20. Cindy Luis September 23, 2018 1:53 pm

    18. true. since they have added up to a number of losses.
    Wahine down 5-0. TO UH

  21. Cindy Luis September 23, 2018 1:57 pm

UH on a 7-5 run behind Granato’s serving. TO UCI

  22. Cindy Luis September 23, 2018 1:58 pm

Granato with her fifth ace. it’s 8-5. but service error makes it 8-6.

  23. Cindy Luis September 23, 2018 2:07 pm

    Hawaii up 19-13. TO UCI

  24. warriorwahine September 23, 2018 2:09 pm

    wahine turn up the heat!

  25. Bleachercoach September 23, 2018 2:10 pm

From following match on Live Stats Tracker…it looks like McKenna Ross contributing alot also in Game 4

  26. Cindy Luis September 23, 2018 2:16 pm

    26. you could always listen on line
Ross off the bench in Set 3. has 10 kills, ties her career high.
UH has two set points denied. It’s 24-20. TO UH

  27. Cindy Luis September 23, 2018 2:18 pm

another service error by Marjam ends it 25-20. on to set 5

  28. HawaiiMongoose September 23, 2018 2:19 pm

    McKenna Ross… WOW.

  29. Bleachercoach September 23, 2018 2:21 pm

Always Love McKenna Ross in match. I would like to see her get a nod at starting only because she is athletic and has a pretty good attack skill when she hits. Its sometimes a disservice to bring her off the bench as they always do. Gosh they are all pretty small anyways why not use one more…just a thought…Lets Go Bows

  30. Cindy Luis September 23, 2018 2:32 pm

Granato with her 21st Kill. UH leads 8-7 at the changeover.

  31. HawaiiMongoose September 23, 2018 2:33 pm

So huge for our confidence if we can pull this thing out…

  32. Cindy Luis September 23, 2018 2:41 pm

UH was up 12-7. just need to side out to win.
3 hitting errors and it’s 12-10. TO UH

  33. Cindy Luis September 23, 2018 2:44 pm

    Ross stuffs Carter 15-11.
I wasn’t watching but guess they gave Burns a BA on that with Ross.

  34. warriorwahine September 23, 2018 2:45 pm

and RISE of na WAHINE II !!

  35. HawaiiMongoose September 23, 2018 2:46 pm

    YES!!!

  36. Bleachercoach September 23, 2018 2:46 pm

Yes girls Prove me wrong all the time. Love it!!! Chee Hooo!! It will be a Happy Flight back home now!! 2-0

  37. warriorwahine September 23, 2018 2:54 pm

so rise of na wahine, again.

but did that really had to come down necessary?

28, 29, and 33. mckenna ross was definitely the wow factor, when the mainline wahine were going down, they still had her as the wahine mobile reserves hidden in the woods.

poor robyn looks like she was having a heart attack and had to be conseled by angelica linquist.

  38. warriorwahine September 23, 2018 2:56 pm

also natasha was an unsung hero in the end, she pulled her queen card, pulled the strings and blocked where it counts.

  39. HawaiiMongoose September 23, 2018 2:58 pm

It was the Double McKenna Attack, arriving in the nick of time.

  40. ballerz September 23, 2018 2:59 pm

espn3 is not as good as big west live stream. too many buffer interruptions. will be nice to have the rainbow wahine at home this weekend. great match. hope we can continue to serve well. go bows!

  41. Sheila September 23, 2018 3:03 pm

Wow! Wish video appear in utube.

  42. Bleachercoach September 23, 2018 3:05 pm

37…Was Robyn appeared like she did and got consoled during the break or after the win

  43. warriorwahine September 23, 2018 3:29 pm

    42. after the win, i think.

  44. H-Man September 23, 2018 4:09 pm

Just returned home from a party. Glad I wasn’t following the match. Would have had a heart attack. But the Wahine pull out the win. A really important win. Go Wahine !!!

  45. Kahuna September 23, 2018 4:15 pm

#41…in the past, matches shown on any ESPN network are achived and I believe you go find it and replay the match at your own pace….meaning you can stop it, fast forward it, rewind it, etc….

I haven’t looked this season since no UH sports was televised on ESPN but you can give it a try. Not sure how long after the match they put it in the archive though.

  46. Kahuna September 23, 2018 4:21 pm

Actually you can go on WatchESPN now, put in “Hawaii vs Irvine “ on the “find” space and it will give you the link.

It was a long match so I’m going to skip the first two sets and just watch set 3 to 5.

  47. warriorwahine September 23, 2018 5:14 pm

    45. i think espn including particularly espn3 holds it in archive for 30 days, i could be wrong.

that match 4 years ago on halloween was something particularly noteworthy to archive and/or keep on youtube. not sure how to save espn3 videos but i did include the link back then on hww. that was when shar (tai) manuolevao and olivia magill set the epitome of ‘difficult to defeat the bows.’ wahine were left for dead with one foot in the grave and were about to be mercilessly slaughtered by irvines serve at 24-23 and swept, only to take it 26-24 and come back winning it 15-7.

  48. islandman September 23, 2018 5:42 pm

Replay below and the UCI MB Akpakpa is shown singing part of the national anthem in the first part. She is good and she had 9 blocks.
    http://www.espn.com/watch/player?id=3430190

  49. Nomu1001 September 23, 2018 7:12 pm

Great job by Ross and Ross. Like Liva as server, but need another middle to complement Burns. Blocking needs to improve, it’s bad right now. Transition needs work.

How many kills did McKenna Ross put down? Okino is the most improved player, keep getting better and she will be among the best to play in that position. Can anyone else step in on the right if Casey struggles?

This was a big win. But right now, Cal Poly is the team to beat. Maybe this team will find a way to play up to the level of the competition.

  50. Nomu1001 September 23, 2018 7:16 pm

Forgot to add, that UC Irvine player singing national anthem belongs on The Voice, at least.

  51. Big Island Volleyball Fan September 23, 2018 9:08 pm

I expect McKenna Granato to be declared Big West Player of the Week. My last two predictions came through with Torrey van Winden. Now it’s Granato’s turn. She helped turn the tide against the Anteaters.

  52. warriorwahine September 23, 2018 9:47 pm

cindy what are your remarks given we had a ‘rise of the wahine’ extended edition this year? was this made a comeback by design unlike 4 halloweens ago? did it include red eyes as well?

  53. nomu1001 September 23, 2018 10:11 pm

McKenna and McKenna. Like the ring to it.

  54. Sheila September 24, 2018 4:44 am

#46 and #47, Thanks although espn3 allows only for selected providers. At least one plug to stop uncontrolled bleeding is ‘Ross the savior’.

  55. islandman September 24, 2018 6:30 am

Wahine 99 digs was the most since 2014.
11 service aces to 8 service errors. Granato had 5 SA’s; Liva 3.

  56. menehune September 24, 2018 8:30 am

This was a great win for the Wahine. After being down 2-0 and winning the next three sets proved to themselves good things happen when you never give up. Kudos to Ross for her valuable contribution.

IMO, Liva is not getting it done as a middle blocker. She always seem to be a half step late in getting to the pins to help with the block.

I would like to see Sky Williams get a start, she’s a proven commodity.

Liva can be a serving specialist.

  57. Cindy Luis September 24, 2018 9:48 am

    http://www.hawaiiwarriorworld.com/?p=46943
    new thread up
thanks for the link to ESPN.
    52. not sure what your asking and what Rise of the Wahine, the movie, has to do with this.
I was there at UCI four years ago.
