Game Night: Rainbow Wahine volleyball is back

Six hundred and twenty-three days.

The countdown to the return of University of Hawaii women’s volleyball ends tonight when the Rainbow Wahine take on Fairfield on the opening night of the Hawaiian Airlines Rainbow Wahine Classic.

The three-day tournament opens with Texas A&M taking on Marquette with Hawaii making its 2021 debut at 7 p.m.

Marquette 3, Texas A&M 2
>> Texas A&M opened the season with an ace only to see the Golden Eagles string together a 6-0 run and Marquette rolls to a 25-12 win in the first set. The Golden Eagles hit .565 in an error-free set with four blocks and four aces.
>> In a far tighter second set, Texas A&M rallies with a 5-0 run to erase a 23-18 deficit and the set goes to deuce. The Aggies fend of two set points, take the lead 27-26 with a block and win the set when Marquette can’t return Mallory Talbert’s kill in the middle.
>> Marquette’s Taylor Wolf puts away set point and the Golden Eagles win 25-21. Wolf it up to 11 kills, 17 assists, seven blocks and three digs.
>> The Aggies run away 25-15 to force a fifth set. Lauren Davis and Morgan Chirston leading Texas A&M with 11 kills each. Aggies hit .387 in the set to Marquette’s .079.
>> Wolf puts down her team-high 15th kill to finish off the Golden Eagles’ 25-12, 26-28, 25-21, 15-25, 15-13 win. Wolf finishes with 24 assists, eight blocks and three aces. Savannah Rennie adds 12 kills, six blocks and two aces. Lauren Davis leads Texas A&M with 15 kills.
