Manny and Marcus

Unlike Marcus Mariota, Manny Pacquiao was not born and raised in Hawaii. But Pacquiao, in large part due to his Filipino nationality, is hugely popular here.

With Mariota on the cusp of being drafted in the first few picks of the NFL Draft on Thursday and Pacquiao taking on Floyd Mayweather on Saturday in Las Vegas in the biggest boxing match in decades, I wonder how they rank in popularity with sports fans in Hawaii.

My guess is most rank Mariota over Pacquiao, but if we were able to separate it by zip codes several would skew toward Pacquiao.

It’s Pacquiao for a Grease . . . c’mon, now. Pacquiao has the professional career already. Gotta see if Mariota ends up like a Tebow or a Tom (Brady), you know?

As of right this very minute, it’s Marcus for me! He’s already a winner in my eyes and has brought so much recognition for Hawaii already.
