Warriors it is; Wahine basketball back in town; Kaimana Awards deadline approaches

>>It is now a done deal that the school’s men’s sports teams will all be named Warriors and the women’s teams all will be Rainbow Wahine. What do you think?

>> The UH women’s basketball team is back in town. Under first-year coach Laura Beeman, the team is 11-11 and has won seven of its last 10 games.

The Rainbow Wahine hope for a crowd of more than the usual 700 or so that they usually get for Thursday’s game against UC-Davis at the Stan Sheriff Center.

“Maybe it’s because we’re not football, we’re not volleyball, we’re not men’s basketball,” said Beeman, who admits to being disappointed with the small crowds (which has almost always been the case throughout the program’s history). “Maybe it’s because the games are on (live) television.”

>> The deadline for the HMSA Kaimana Awards scholarships is Friday. For more information click here. High school athletes are eligible. Community service and academics are heavily considered.
