UH falls at West Point

There would be no “Miracle by the Hudson” this time for Hawaii.
UH’s bid for a late comeback at Army, like the one it pulled off in its only previous visit to West Point in 2010, came up just short in a 28-21 loss to the Black Knights on Saturday.
The Rainbow Warriors’ first loss of the season put them at 3-1, while Army improved to 2-1. Army recorded its first win in the series, which now stands at 3-1 for UH.
Here is the Star-Advertiser’s full breaking story on the outcome, and here is Stephen Tsai’s gameday running blog.
Some quick-hit stats:
>> Army rolled up 303 yards on the ground with its triple-option offense, compared to 41 for UH.
>> UH quarterback Cole McDonald threw for 321 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions for UH.
>> Army quarterback Kelvin Hopkins put up 162 yards on the air on 6-for-10 passing and ran for 112 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries on the ground.
>> Slotback John Ursua caught six passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns and had a 1-yard rushing touchdown. Cedric Byrd caught six balls for 80 yards.
Ouch.
That’s the difference in the ballgame, Army, throwing the ball.
I can’t believe the Army QB made some incredible throws. DB were in good coverage on most of them but the QB made the plays like he does it everyday, amazing. Hard luck for our defense. Just a couple of miss passes and we walk away with a win.
The defense is atrocious. This defense would be unacceptable at any respectable division one school.
