Spangler leaving KHON

One of the good guys in sports journalism — Sam Spangler — is leaving KHON next month.

Spangler and wife Chassis will be joining the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai.

Spangler succeeded on and off the field. He pitched for the Rainbow Warriors from 2007 through 2010, then spent two years in the Minnesota Twins organization. In August 2012, he was hired as a sports reporter/producer at KHON.

Spangler is among the new wave of multiple-skill sports journalists. He reports, shoots videos, edits, produces and anchors. His reporting delivery is as seamless as his pitching motion. He has had a key role — OK, several roles — in the success of the widely popular “Cover-2” football show. Spangler also has been a contributor to Spectrum Sports’ telecasts of UH baseball games.

His coverage of local sports will be missed. We wish Sam and his family all the best.

fIrSt. That’s too bad. Enjoyed Sam’s wit, smooth delivery, and genuine love of UH sports. He’ll be missed.

I’m happy for Sam, seems like a good move for him, but I will miss his reporting. One of the nice guys.

Sam, will miss you for your fresh approach to reporting, and good luck with new position. Keep in touch!

As a Rainbows Baseball fan & supporter I’ve always said that imo Spangler was Trap’s greatest accomplishment. I say this as no disrespect to any former or future ‘Bows.

Spangler represents everything positive I see coming out of the program. His work ethic, his positiveness, his respect for the local culture, his personality and intelligence. He will be missed.

Wishing the best to Sam and family in their future endeavors.

Yep… He comes across as such a nice, respectful, and good person. Good luck to Sam and his family.

Sam was good and will be missed. Hope this opens the door for Taryn Hatcher. Her talent is being wasted on that other channel. Their sportscast is non-existent. Too much weather reports.

    Re: Weather reports.
I understand what causes rain. The thing that weather people never explain is what is causing the conditions that are causing rain. And, you know, since it rained every day in my neighborhood since mid-February, they had ample time to do some ‘splaining.

I have been blessed to work with Sam and Rob on COVER2. I would watch the taping of Sams story weekly! #chickenskin
I would look at Rob, and say wow!
Sam is a perfect example of you don’t have to be born and raised here to live Aloha!
Sam u will be missed, but I have this great feeling that Aloha doesn’t always mean goodbye!

Who will taking Spangler’s place? MG, at another channel, just doesn’t seem like a sports person to me.
