Cherry departing

Yep, as you might have heard, sportscaster Mike Cherry is leaving KITV to work at a news station in New Hampshire.

His last day in Hawaii is Oct. 23.

Like most people from Maui, Cherry is a nice guy and hard worker. We wish him the best as Hawaii’s sportscasting landscape continues to change.

    GO WARRIORS !!!

    BEAT the SPARTIES !!!

Too bad. I thought Cherry was a good sports broadcaster; better than some holding anchor positions. But, oh well, that’s life. Good luck to Mike Cherry, but New Hampshire? Cold country, but very pretty in the fall. Spring should be really nice also. And great seafood restaurants (lobster and clambake).

Best of luck to Mike Cherry.

What ever happened to Paul Guanzon?
Guanzon on explaining to a caller how to get into broadcasting:

“It’s not politics. It’s who you know.”

    Guud Afternoon Tsaikos…Bootiful Day!

Remember North Carolina is a “yuge” basketball factory. The reasoning behind the decision is kind of hard to swallow. Do they say how many students other than athletes took the classes? How is it that their gpa isn’t impacted. If you remove the credits for the course, then a lot of people with degrees may not have met the graduation requirements. Thus, negating the diploma.

The NCAA should not be doing it’s own investigation into bribery charges within college sports. This should be done by the FBI. The NCAA has proven time and again it is not capable of doing an honest investigation.

Re: NSF @ 4. For what it’s worth, saw this in a story about UNC:

“More than 3,100 students were affected between 1993 and 2011, with athletes across several sports, including members of the football and men’s basketball teams, accounting for half the enrollment.”

    Good god.

    Hawaii faced tougher sanctions.

What North Carolina did was worse than Louisville, right????

    Hawaii deserves an apology.

The NCAA should restore Isaac Fotu’s eligibility.

    FBI investigation, now.

    So, so corrupt.

  7. cappie the dog October 13, 2017 3:27 pm

Live free or die, Mike Cherry.

Good luck on your new adventure.

    I like American East basketball.

They have the unique tournament scheduling of having the title game after a week off.

  8. cappie the dog October 13, 2017 3:29 pm

    Roy Williams is likable.

    Rick Pitino is unlikable.

I think that’s what it comes down to.

Williams is Derek Jeter and Pitino is Jim Rice.

Hawaii men’s basketball is my religion.

    I am so sick.

If I had a cat, I would kick it(not really).

  9. Ipu Man October 13, 2017 3:34 pm

    Good luck to Mike Cherry.
I hear that is not his real name.
I think it is Pete Cherry.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  11. NorthShoreFan October 13, 2017 4:05 pm

This goes beyond being a the watchdog of college athletics. Could there be some under the table money being passed around? FBI need to get involved.

  12. Ipu Man October 13, 2017 4:40 pm

    Syracuse defeated Number 2 Clemson.
Hawaii born coach, Dino Barbers doing good.

Not an excuse, but didn’t Clemson’s starting QB go down in the first half?

Listless Wahine team loses first set at Long Beach, 25-16. Robyn takes team off the court and behind the stands somewhere for a talk, Hawaii wins the next three sets. Wonder what she told them?

  21. seewhy October 13, 2017 8:00 pm

    RE: #20

Idk? But come get her to talk to the football team.

  22. What? October 14, 2017 12:26 am

6, I have a feeling the NCAA is going to beat the crap of some small school before the end of the 2017-2018 SY to show they have some teeth.

The president’s of member schools don’t want change. What they want is to continue to make money off of student athletes in basketball and football.

  23. ai-eee-soos October 14, 2017 2:37 am

You can read ST’s pregame column now.

    Offense:
    Ursua – slot

JR in for FUP – RG

    Defense:
3 LB’s: Matautia, Tavai, Russell Williams
    DT: Moala
    NT: Akoteu

    GEEV UM !!!

Mike is a really nice guy. Chatted with him heading to a Men’s BB Awards Banquet. He did his own camera work (I found out later he got his start as a cameraman) so he carried all of his own equipment.

  27. What? October 14, 2017 8:59 am

    UH Win
    SJSU Loss

    Game day! Go Bows!

    Guud Morning Tsaikos…Bootiful Day!
Liked DR’s column today. Great analysis.
Also like the column by Paul Newberry…calling for FBI to step into NCAA doings.
The amount of misdeeds around the country by NCAA UNIVERSITIES is alarming. All for a sports program.
I’d also like UNC to say what the effects of the “no attend” classes will have on the students who took the class will be. Reason dictates if you received a credit from the class, it would now not count towards your gpa. Right? So…the student should be shy the credits to graduate.

back to regular programming…Looking for a W tonight. Like DR mentions .. play with discipline and we can get the W.
We’ll see what the “new drawing” board has produced.
    IMUA WARRIORS!

  29. islandman October 14, 2017 9:38 am

    28. Listen to the UNC -NCAA spin-zone :
” The panel notes that it considered imposing a charge of “academic fraud” on UNC even though the association’s enforcement staff had not alleged that against the university.
But UNC’s vehement (recent) assertions that the courses did not violate UNC policy at the time and that the grades awarded would continue to count toward degrees left the panel with no choice, its members said, not to bring an academic fraud charge. …
In a conference call with reporters Friday afternoon, Mark Merritt, UNC’s vice chancellor and general counsel, characterized the classes not as fraudulent, but rather lacking professorial oversight with easy grading — akin to an independent study model, he said. ” (insidehighered.com)

Not only were they easy, but some tutors wrote the papers for the some of the athletes.
