Trip update

The Hawaii men’s basketball team’s upcoming trip to Asia is still a lock, but parts of the travel itinerary (scheduled between Aug. 9 to 21) may change. That’s why Panda Travel has yet to announce its travel packages for fans who wish to accompany the team through China and Japan on most or all of those dates.

Panda Travel estimates the cap size on the tour group at 100 or just over that. The ballpark cost estimate is between $3,000 to $4,000, but that’s all it is at this point — an estimate. It could be higher in the final package. Reservations haven’t been taken yet, but it sounds like things are close to finalization.

In other words, if you plan to go, stay frosty. Those spots could fill up quickly; there’s been a lot of interest.

Remember, to see a general outline of the trip schedule (which could change), go to www.warriorstoasia.com.

As for UH coach Gib Arnold‘s new contract, indications are that most of the major points of negotiation (salary, contract length) are close to being wrapped up, and the dealings at the moment are in the numerous smaller points (boilerplate language) that exist in coaches’ contracts.  The idea is for Arnold’s new contract to go into effect on July 1.

    Right back where we started with Gib’s contract. Major points agreed too now it’s up to Upper Campus legal counsel to finalize it for signatures.

    I’m not confident it’ll be anytime soon.

    Can’t wait for basketball season. LET’S GO GIB!!!!

    REQUEST – The Interest is Definitely HIGH …

    Much Anticipation BOTH for the Quality of JC & HS Players coming in …
    [Hey young Fans; RE: Wins & Losses in the First Month affect RPI esp. since in UH’s schedules these tend to be the higher rated teams; RE: Zane Johnson, Bill Amis and Hiram Thompson were all Keys and Returning Players even from ‘out-of-system; (although i know Gib builds for E-O-Season, Prime-Time Performance)];

    BUT Historically and at least for openers in the Current Season, Among the Biggest Impacts will be the Returning Players who know the system and have translated their BB knowledge and skills to mesh closer to full speed within the system:

    With that in Mind: REQUEST to Brian: Would you be able to get and summarize a synopsis of what Coach Gib & Staff have assigned to the New and Returning Players w.r.t. What their off-season specific work assignments are (besides Good Summer School Sessions and Trips for ALL) ?

    EX: Trevor Wiseman: 300 to 400 shots per day (Hit Up to 80%), including 200 Threes so that he becomes a Drop-Dead 10-Foot Killer and a 35-40% ‘Three Assassin’ (Mike McIntyre did it “almost overnight” and Wiseman IS a Good & Smart, Hard-Working Athlete — so i ‘KNOW’ this is achievable — AND would allow him to lock-down a starting position or at least Max. P.T.);

    good to see some progress being made. but, isn’t this the second contract that they are working on???
    the first being the verbal agreement/contract that which was the method to paying gibber this past year.
    he’s also after a committment for more asst coach money and more recruiting dollars.
