See em live Sunday

The UH basketball team has settled on a date and time for its now-annual Green and White intrasquad scrimmage.

It’s 1 p.m. this Sunday at the Stan Sheriff Center. The kicker: Admission is free. Show up as early as noon (when the gates open) and you can watch UH conduct its regular practice before breaking up into to-be-determined groups for the scrimmage.

You can bet, based on Eran Ganot’s previous G&Ws, there will be rotating teams instead of a fixed scrimmage roster. The coaches may also introduce specific game situations for the squads to hash out, and vary the period lengths.

The first half of October went by pretty dang fast, and there’s still a lot to sort out. Right about now (around Oct. 15) is when teams used to start full practices up until a handful of years ago.

UH was briefly at full strength last weekend — then incumbent point guard Brocke Stepteau suffered a foot ailment that kept him out of live action on Monday. We’ll see how much more time (if any) he misses, and how that might affect the point guard battle. Drew Buggs and Jaaron Stallworth are gunning for time. And both of them are coming off injuries, either of the short- or long-term variety.

Recruiting seems to be picking up. Stay tuned for some headlines there. The early signing period opens Nov. 8 this year. UH has two scholarships to play with for 2018 as of right now.
