Green and White scrimmage set for Saturday

At last, a date has been set for the Hawaii basketball Green and White intrasquad scrimmage.

It will be this Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center, coach Eran Ganot said at the team’s media day Monday.

A time has yet to be set, but it sounded like it will be earlier than 7 p.m. The only UH event going on that day is football at Nevada at 10 a.m. HST.

UPDATE: The scrimmage has been set for 3 p.m. Admission is free.

Because there was no “Ohana Hoopfest”-esque preseason kick-off event, this will be the first chance for the public to really see the Rainbow Warriors in action.

The preseason exhibition vs. Chaminade is Nov. 5 and the regular-season opener vs. Montana State is Nov. 13.

I hope that look on the face of Sheriff is not representative of his feelings about being here. Granted not everyone is smiling in their photos, but there seems to be something unhappy in his expression.

Glad to hear there will be a scrimmage, but I wish it had been scheduled back-to-back with the Wahine basketball scrimmage to create a double-header UH hoopfest. That would have been good for showcasing the Wahine program to a larger audience, and drawn a bigger crowd than either team will draw individually. Instead the Wahine will scrimmage on Friday and the men on Saturday. A missed marketing opportunity by UH in my opinion.

Hawaii Athletics site says game is on Sunday ?

Good idea promote UH MBB and WBB together.. they should do some pre conference BWC… double headers too.
I think, just personally, UH taking it real slow, whether showing MBB team, coverage, video of open gym, interviews with guys.. just have them focus I guess, and as Eran always quotes: Make sure they, and MBB program doing things right.
Still think team, is rather thin.. depth wise… key top 7 returnees go down.. could be trouble.. hope team stay healthy !

The scrimmage is on Saturday. I called the basketball office to confirm the date. Gates/door to the SSC will open at 2 pm. Start of scrimmage?

#1 Agree with you. Typical UH failure to market its product. Isn’t the idea to get the teams before as much of the public as possible? A showing of the two teams together would help both programs. I am consistently disappointed in the lack of imagination at the UH management level. Dave Matlin has done nothing to prove to me that he is a leader willing to go outside the box to get more support from the community.

Don’t be concerned about Sheriff. That media day was something of a free for all with players shuffling around, smiling and not smiling on command.

That is a funny one about depth concerns. What team wouldn’t be in trouble if their first seven went down?

Does UH have a sports information director? Is there such a position or was it not had a position called that? If they do who is it?

Weak minds think alike. I have yet to be impressed by anything U.H.
