Gameday: UC Riverside

Roderick Bobbitt isn’t about to let some knee bruising slow him down.

Bobbitt is dressed to play for Thursday night’s contest against UC Riverside and will resume his pursuit of the UH single-season steals record held by Tom Henderson.

He needs only three to tie and four to pass Henderson’s record of 84 — an entirely feasible possibility vs. UCR, given Bobbitt averages better than three per game.

If UH can find a way to avenge its 66-62 loss at UCR last month — the first time the Rainbow Warriors dropped a game to the Highlanders in Big West play — Benjy Taylor‘s team will improve to 9-0 this season coming off a loss. It would also keep up the remarkable trend of UH alternating wins and losses every game of league play.

UH did a respectable job of bottling up Taylor Johns last time, but guards Steven Thornton and Jaylen Bland went off for a combined 37 points. That can’t happen again if you’re the ‘Bows. It’s worth mentioning, however, that UH was without Garrett Nevels and Negus Webster-Chan for that game.

Getting Webster-Chan and Stefan Jankovic going again should be a high priority for UH. They haven’t responded well to their recent bench roles.

Webster-Chan is back in the starting lineup, the first time in eight games. He’s replacing center Stefan Jovanovic, with Mike Thomas sliding to the 5.

If you missed it earlier, I wrote that Brandon Jawato is being shut down for the season with a back injury.

It’s “Rockstar Night” for the students.
