Gameday: Nicholls State

The latest “Star Wars Night” is upon us. Oh yeah, and Hawaii takes on Nicholls State at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Jokes aside, it’s been one of the best Hawaii themed game nights for a few years running now, spearheaded by director of operations/performance analyst Jamie Smith. UH students will again be waving around several hundred lightsabers to distract unwary opponents, and you expect the regular costumed diehards to show up.

Tipoff is at 7:30 or about 30 minutes after UH women’s basketball concludes against Washington State. I am on Maui for the Maui Invitational, so Jason Kaneshiro is your man tonight for live updates. You can follow Jason here on Twitter.

UH should be at full health as it pursues its first 4-0 start to a season since 2010 — Gib Arnold‘s first season. They’re by no means in Golden State Warriors territory to start the year, but the Rainbow Warriors are considerable favorites to keep it going tonight.

Watch for some possible role reversal down low with Stefan Jankovic and Mike Thomas, with Thomas assuming more inside duties and Jankovic plying his trade on the perimeter some. UH will have to deal with two 7-footers for Nicholls — one of the beefy variety and one fairly slender.

Career wins leader Riley Wallace spoke to the team prior to Saturday’s practice with Eran Ganot‘s blessing. Will it lead to an inspired performance?
