Gameday: at UC Santa Barbara

What kind of shenanigans will take place in the Thunderdome this year?

We’ve seen a controversial finish (2015) and controversial court security (2014) at UC Santa Barbara’s facility when Hawaii rolls into town. Who knows what’s in store this time?

UH (16-3, 5-1 Big West) and UCSB (9-11, 3-4) tip off at 5 p.m. HST. Previous UH-at-UCSB games have been nationally televised, but this year’s edition is being streamed at BigWest.TV. (When something crazy happens this year, ESPN might regret not picking this one up.)

The Rainbow Warriors found a way to win both games in their previous Big West road trip, to UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton. UCSB might have a higher upside as a team than UCR or CSF, but by coach Bob Williams’ estimation, the Gauchos have not played well at home (2-4) this season, and have in fact been a better road team (6-6).

Nevertheless, the Gauchos are favored by 2 today. They won both of the aforementioned controversial games over UH in the last two years.

UH has not dropped back-to-back games yet this season.

Keep an eye on Aaron Valdes in what should be his first start since hurting his toe. I said it last time (and it didn’t come to fruition), but his matchup against Michael Bryson is key.

Isaac Fleming (ankle) is back in Honolulu and will be watching this game like the rest of us on the island. He had 22 in UH’s 65-57 win over UCSB at the Stan Sheriff Center on Jan. 9. Sheriff Drammeh could get some meaningful bench minutes again.

Point guard Roderick Bobbitt is tied for fifth on the UH career steals list at 142 and could surpass Tony Webster (143) and Troy Bowe (146) very soon.

    Quincy is realizing his potential.

When Hawaii returns home to play UC-Irvine, I hope the promotion doesn’t incite the Anteaters to play lights out.

And I hope people stay home.

I think Hawaii is more comfortable playing before 4500 fans.

Good Morning Warriors!. This morning was the biggest laugh in the world!. I was watching ESPN news and a subject came up that? University of Louisville was banned from 2016 NCAA TOURNAMENT. And another university like SMU!. BIG DEAL!. The NCAA just had given those university a slap on the wrist! And given them a one year ban from playing in a tournament!. That’s a biggest or largest laugh in the world what the NCAA have did! All the officials that works in there. Should really be banned from working in there too!. Because why should they only given them one or four years ban from tournament or bowl games!. Still come down to money for the big universities and that’s not right at all!. They’re should given them five to ten years ban from tournament or bowl games. Like they did to University of Hawaii long time ago and still doing it to them!. Plus other small Universities too!. Why? Not they even ban the University of Ohio State football program? Because look at the Head Coach he first denied that he didn’t know that? Hernandez was a trouble with the law doing his college career. He kept him with the team at Florida. He had over five players were in trouble with the law and still let them play in the University system. And before leaving the University of Florida he finally said that he knew about it!. He just didn’t want the University to get in trouble!. The NCAA should step down him and tell him that? Wherever you go the University were he be coaching will ban from bowl games for five years. Because coaches staffs of any sports have to be honestly to the kids and their parents!. Because they trust whatever the coach say to them about taking care of their children. Come down to this? Would you trust a coach that denied anything happens to your kids even he or she get hurt or kill at the University!. And later knew about it!. And hearing other coaches denying that he didn’t know about it!. Shame on you! Rich Pinto here you go again telling another lie to the public that you didn’t know!. First you had said that? You didn’t coach or been with the University of Hawaii basketball program. And you did knew that the University were getting ban from any tournament for ten years and you lift a week later!. It’s really shows now that the NCAA will always pick on the University of Hawaii!.
