Well, he was visiting the islands the past week. * * * Former UH cornerback Ryan Keomaka has signed a professional contract — with Disney, as a dancer. Keomaka is a talented Polynesian dancer who once performed at Merrie Monarch. * * * Not sure what you got your family for Valentine’s. But thanks to Jon Nielsen, I got mine a backstage photo op with Boyz II Men. * * * Also at the post-concert gathering, thanks to Nielsen and […]

Search is almost over

By Stephen Tsai on February 14, 2009

Those two visitors on the UH campus this past weekend? They were finalists for one of the coaching positions. A decision will be announced in about a week. * * * Seven years ago today, I nearly died, which would have been kind of a bummer. Especially for me. Which is why I’m appreciative of having seen: • The men’s volleyball team defeat Pepperdine in the NCAA volleyball final. Costas played alongside pros three years earlier? Who cared that night. […]

Bolla on leave from team

By Stephen Tsai on February 13, 2009

The UH-Manoa Chancellor’s Office is confirming that Jim Bolla is on “indefinite leave” from the women’s basketball team. * * * Remember Kani Kauahi? It appears he’s one of the candidates for the o-line coaching job at UH. He has impressive credentials: Played 11 seasons in the NFL (Seahawks, Packers, Cardinals, Chiefs), and he’s coached in the NFL (Cardinals), CFL, XFL and AFL. He also played for the Warriors. * * * From Curveball: I would like to thank all […]

Okimoto has served as secretary to every UH athletic director since Paul […]

Chut Yo Moutt

By Stephen Tsai on February 11, 2009

Princess Leila reports that Chut Yo Moutt won today’s Super Games relay race. Each player had to place his head on the bottom of the handle of a baseball bat, run five times around in one direction, then five times around in the other direction, then sprint to a marker 10 yards away and then back to the starting line. Rocky Savaiigaea’s Chut Yo Mouttt team won in 2 minutes, 40 seconds. Team members are Vaughn Meatoga, Richard Torres, Matagisila […]

Spring game

By Stephen Tsai on February 9, 2009

The spring game is tentatively scheduled for April 25 at Aloha Stadium. It will be held in the afternoon, most likely, because of repairs at the stadium. That also is draft day, so hopefully David Veikune and Ryan Mouton will be picked before then. * * * Through next week, the UH coaches will be working from various parts of the lower campus while the insulation system is being repaired on the athletic complex’s third floor. The football coaches are […]
