UH lands speedy California wideout

Christian “Bubba” Poueu-Luna, a wideout from Great Oak High in Temecula, Calif., has accepted a scholarship from the Warriors. Poueu-Luna, who is 6 feet and 175, played quarterback, receiver, defensive back and punter. He is projected as a wideout for the Warriors when he enrolls in August 2010. Two walk-ons hope to catch on

The addition of slotbacks Corey Lau of Kailua High and Samson Anguay of Campbell High is helping to jump-start the 2010 recruiting class. But two walk-ons — Bennett Nicola and Niroby Dingle — are hopeful of providing more immediate help. Both are enrolled in UH. Doris Sullivan reports that Corey Lau, a receiver from Kailua High, and Samson Anguay, a slotback/running back from Campbell High, have accepted football scholarships from the Warriors. Former Warrior named to Wade’s staff

Dan Fisher is rejoining the Warrior volleyball team as an associate head coach. He is coach Charlie Wade’s second hire. Earlier, Wade retained Mason Kuo as an assistant coach. Fisher was an outside hitter at UH in 1995 and 1996. Stop the presses?

UH is debating whether to follow the lead of three Big Ten schools that will stop printing sports media guides. Michigan, Ohio State and Wisconsin cited cost-cutting as the reason behind the move. The guides are used mostly as recruiting tools. A UH official said the athletic department would save about $80,000 if it eliminated the hard copies of the guides.
