Governor helps Warriors

By Stephen Tsai on July 8, 2011

There is a familiar UH alumnus serving a supervisory role during unsupervised football workouts this week. “You know guys from Farrington like to help out,” said Vince Manuwai, a former Governor and Warrior lineman and now offensive guard for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Manuwai, who awaits the end of the lockout to begin his ninth NFL season, has offered tips to both offensive and defensive linemen. His message is the same one given to him (in a loud tone) from former […]

By Stephen Tsai on July 7, 2011

Former Michigan quarterback Tate Forcier said he will be taking an official recruiting visit to Hawaii next week. He said he spoke with UH head coach Greg McMackin for an hour today, and the trip will be arranged after he sends his transcripts. Forcier said he has family in Hawaii, and that he is impressed with the Warriors’ history of giving second chances to players. He also has an interest in San Jose State and Nevada. “Hawaii will be my […]

Warriors add o-lineman

By Stephen Tsai on July 6, 2011

It went largely unnoticed, but offensive lineman Ben Clarke of Chatfield Senior High in Colorado will be joining the Warriors as a grayshirt in January. Clarke is 6 feet 4 and 250 pounds. The original plan was for Clarke to be the final member of the Warriors’ 2011 recruiting class. But when safety Brandon Leslie became available, it was decided to delay Clarke’s arrival. Clarke will enroll as a part-time UH student in the fall, then go on scholarship in […]

Independence Day

By Stephen Tsai on July 4, 2011

Today is a reminder of the freedom we enjoy in this country. And if the Mountain West did not accept the UH football team, it is a reminder that being independent might have had another meaning for the Warriors. * * * * * Peter Upham, a coach in Australia, sends us this note on Adrian Thomas, who was with UH for five years, and Blake Muir, a first-year Warrior: Here are Adrian Thomas and Blake Muir training together in […]

Receiver/returner set to join Warriors

By Stephen Tsai on July 3, 2011

A speedy returner/receiver from two-time national champion Mount San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) has been cleared to play for the Warriors this season. There were glitches in the UH application for Breydan Torres-Keohokapu, a Castle High graduate. Known as Keohokapu as his only surname at Mt. SAC, Torres-Keohokapu also has a hyphenated first name on his birth certificate. The long names caused mixups in comparing his transcripts and application. Once sorted out, he was admitted to UH (although he is […]

By Stephen Tsai on July 2, 2011

After a year of McKnight school, Charles Clay is hoping to land a job on UH’s special forces. “I’m going to work my ass off to get on special teams,” said Clay, who has joined the Warriors as a walk-on receiver. Last season, he played eight games on special teams for SMU, whose special teams coordinator was Dennis McKnight, a former UH coach. “I love playing special teams,” Clay said. “That’s what I want to do (at UH). UH is […]
